ELG is a multidisciplinary social enterprise offering children, parents and educators’ access to sustainable and innovative special education, developmental, behavioral, and mental health services through our Programs, consultation services and tailored training sessions to the community.

For what projects/services did your company hire Bright Design Studio?

Office communication templates and a diverse set of event promotional materials.

What were your goals for this project?

We needed to update and improve upon our office communication templates keeping in line with our brand identity and also to reflect our plans moving forward. We also reached out to design a series of workshop posters and flyers that could convey our rich content in a visually appealing way to our target audience.

Elaine worked closely the team to first understand our request before proposing several options for us to review. She had to understand the way we wanted to communicate our content to our wider audiences and at the same time be creative within the bounds of our brand identity.

Elaine was great at checking in with me and the team throughout the process to ensure we were on the same page in term of the design direction.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Through their work, we now have nice templates that can be easily modified for our many events that enables us to focus on developing new content. We also have improved office communication templates for our internal and external use.

Good, frequent check-ins and open communication throughout process. Also, they were responsive and open to our feedback.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

We are a non-profit organization called Shared Collaborative. Our company has two branches —Shared Framework and Shared Learning.

Shared Framework deals mostly with professional development for teachers in Shanghai, while Shared Learning works on connecting schools with local businesses, so that students can have a more hands-on learning experience. We also connect with artistic companies such as DIY Mosaic where kids can create mosaic layouts. We’ve been around for about a year now, and we have successfully conducted about 18 seminars on professional development for both online and in-person meetings.

My position in the company is chief operations officer, and I deal with bringing new people on board, organizing initiatives for our working teams, and basically anything that has to do with human resources.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Bright Design Studio?

Since we’re based in China, a lot of the things we have to do to get our name out there is through digital marketing. We didn’t have a designer on the team who could make sure that the necessary details to make our business look more professional are in place. We needed good-quality PNG images and a consistent color palette for our company.

Therefore, we went to Bright Design Studio with a very broad description of what we needed. We needed them to help standardize our branding in order to make it more consistent. We went to them saying we want to have a recognizable image on the social media platforms that we’re using, mainly on WeChat.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Bright Design came on board to help us with brand management, and ensure that our digital image is professional so that people would start to recognize us.

They design a lot of our posters for our weekly posts where we feature interviews with educators. Apart from that, they design our advertisements for upcoming events, seminars, and research articles where we collaborate with other social enterprises.

What is the team composition?

We mainly work with just one person from Bright Design Studio.

How did you come to work with Bright Design Studio?

When we sat down for the interview with Elaine (Art Director), and not only did she have a portfolio that showed us a range of different media campaigns she had done, she also had the knowledge of the important market trends here in Shanghai. 

It was really a struggle for us to find someone who could work with us on reaching such a diverse audience since we live in an international city. Most of our events are targeted towards foreign educators. We’re reaching out to a global community in Shanghai and the majority of our content is in English.

What made Bright Design Studio stand out is not only they were able to show us the wonderful campaigns they had done for other companies, but also explain their plan for our digital media and how relevant it would be for our audience. Additionally, they took the time to learn more about our company mission and what we do. They came back to us with a few different things, and explained point by point how their solution would fit with our company and the audience we’re trying to reach.

How much have you invested with them?

We settled for 5,000RMB (Around $760USD). Since we’re a nonprofit, they were willing to work with us on a flexible schedule and payment option.

What is the status of this engagement?

The test project started in February 2021. Originally, we wanted to work with her for a month just to get our heads around what we wanted, and she’s been with us ever since. We continue to work with her and bring her to new projects as we expand. We recently talked to her about staying with us for the remainder of the year, and we finalized the contract 30 days ago.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We currently don’t have any metrics since we just started a month ago. However, we’re tracking our online traffic, and there’s a shocking uptake on the posts we published. We gained additional followers, but it’s not clear if that was solely due to Bright Design Studio. However, I definitely think that their designs play a really big factor in presenting our company to be a trustworthy and reliable one.

We’re still conducting research, but after that initial post, we saw a lot more interest and traffic on our official WeChat account.

How did Bright Design Studio perform from a project management standpoint?

Bright Design was willing to work with our project management tool, Monday.com. She was added to one of the boards and she now collaborates with one member of our team, particularly our chief operations of marketing. There have been no problems with management so far.

The way we collaborate is sort of a sliding scale, where we give her a certain number of projects, and let her know which one to prioritize to accomplish by the end of the week. She then comes back to us with how intense the work would be based on her timetable. The communication between us is really clear and there are never any surprises or missed deadlines. It’s been a really great experience working with Bright Design Studio.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I think the biggest thing to make a note of is not only are they doing digital marketing campaigns for our company, but they’re also willing to add into the company meetings. For example, Bright Design helps us make sure our posters and online content look great, and at the same time, provide us with regular suggestions about other ways we can connect with our market. Bright Design Studio really goes above and beyond when it comes to contributing ideas that can add a lot of value to the company.

It’s really great working with someone who’s willing to collaborate and educate us on digital marketing — because we haven’t had any experience with digital marketing and design.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We’ve had a really positive experience particularly because they’ve been a really great asset in helping to educate us. I don’t have any sort of critique or think of anything they could improve on — it’s really wonderful the way they’re going.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

One piece of advice I would give to anyone who wants to work with Bright Design Studio, is to definitely sit down with Elaine, and have a chat about the company’s initiative. She does a really great job of translating what a company is looking for into design terms.

Products being created were a mix of promotional and in-person guidance tools. The promotional material was unique in design, easy to understand, easy to share and an effective way to generate interest. The printed design materials were also very well received by the audience in attendance.
