reduC hired the services of BlackBox to develop a web app to automatize the calculation of CO2e emissions for transportation to events. The process was developed following an agile methodology, and reviewing the updates of the project every 2 weeks. 

The key deliverables are as follow:

1. Landing page with the main information of the startup. 
2. Backoffice: easy to use without coding knowlegde, easy to update and manage. 
3. Web app: user focues, well designed aiming to cath the attention.  

The final product is not just a software, it is a product with a strong purpose to make climate action, while educating persons about their impact to the environment due to their transportation to events.

Besides, when we were stuck with some insights needed to continue the project, they offered some ideas, and help to catch up. Blackbox offered high quality advise for us to develop and organize our ideas in order to get an efficient product. Likewise, they advise us to make the best decisions to be efficient with our resources, something critical in a startup in early stage.

During this year, with my team at Acercando Naciones, we began to face a process of digital transformation. As you may know, Acercando Naciones is an organization in Argentina that focuses on diplomacy and generating spaces to access privileged knowledge. We have a news site that brings together articles on diplomacy, culture, and business in Argentina and the world. Like any company, sometimes growth causes us to lose focus.

Our website was a true reflection of this, and we felt that we had lost our identity and needed to recover it. That's why we contacted BlackBox Vision and asked for a complete redesign of our site with a focus more oriented to the news of diplomacy. First, we had to understand our work process so that we could identify the flaws in it and come up with a new model. Our site was a WordPress with a purchased theme, which was the product of a previous redesign with another digital agency a few years ago.

As with any common software development project, our collaboration with BlackBox Vision to redesign the Acercando Naciones website involved several key deliverables. These included:

• Requirements gathering: We worked with BlackBox Vision to clearly define the requirements for the website redesign, including the desired look and feel, functionality, and user experience.

We started working with them in July 2021 and finished in June or July 2022.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

As we were about to finish the platform develompent, we had to switch to a new technology. We don't have a final product but the result is not related to their performance. 

How did  BlackBox vision perform from a project management standpoint?

They were very professional, organized, and used agile methodologies, which made it very easy for us to know exactly what was happening through every phase of the project. We used Asana as a project management tool and had periodic meetings on Microsoft Teams or Zoom.

What did you find most impressive about them?

In Argentina, it's hard to find a team that has as good follow-up as BlackBox does. Additionally, their quality–price ratio is great.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can't think of anything to mention. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?  Be very clear on the assignment of tasks for each member of the team. Moreover, assign someone to be in charge of follow-up with the project manager.

We needed a company that could develop a mobile app for us. We wanted to help people organize their workout routines and provide them with training recommendations. The app connects with Vimeo and features a database where we can see our users’ stats in real-time and allows us to provide personalized information. They also built a landing page for us.

We hired BlackBox Vision to develop the mobile app based on the designs we made. They used Native coding languages so the app could easily adapt to Android and iOS.

The app currently has about 10,000 users. We haven’t experienced any issues or bugs, and the overall user feedback has been excellent.

How did BlackBox Vision perform from a project management standpoint?

BlackBox Vision performed well in terms of project management. There were some internal issues that caused some delays at the beginning, but BlackBox Vision was able to handle the situation well. There was also a slight delay at the end, but they were able to deliver a top-notch solution and make price adjustments, which allowed us to do more things without paying more.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We were most impressed with BlackBox Vision’s commitment to the success of the project.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It would have been great if BlackBox Vision had provided us with a wider range of proposals and suggestions to implement once the app was up and running.

Make sure to commit to meeting with them as many times as they request and to quickly provide them with all of the information that they need for the project. The better they understand your needs, the better the end product will be.

Please describe your company and your position there.

Media company that talks about tv shows and movies in different formats. The main one is text (news, reviews, investigation, interviews, etc) in our website. I'm one of the founders and the Chief Product Officer.

For what projects/services did your company hire BlackBox Vision, and what were your goals?

Another company was upgrading our site and the server crashed. Couldn't get it back up. BlackBox helped us assessing the problem, recommending the migration to a new server and setting up everything on the new one, as well as performing the migration and putting the site back up overnight. It was a really big deal since the site was off for about three days and we had a really big client campaign that was just about to start.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

I know one of the founders, talk to him about the problem and told me that it was something they could fix. Understanding the importance and urgency of our situation they started working minutes after I asked for help. A few moments later the updates about the situation began. Knowing what to do and keeping me informed were both decisive factors.

We needed to put the site back on in record time, because a really big campaign was about to start and the previous company working for us had no idea how to do it (and they broke it). We set up a quick call to explain the problem, I shared all the site access (AWS, CloudFlare, WP, etc) and they started assessing the situation. After that, they gave me a few options and the time each demanded, I choose to try to fix the actual server and if that didn't work move to a new one.

They started working on it and after a while they recommended me to move to a new server so we can get the site up in time. I accepted and they started configuring the new one and then migrating the entire site (a 7 years old one) overnight. They delivered and our site was up and running just in time for the campaign to begin.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The most measurable outcome is that the site wasn't working, and it kept that way for at least 3 days, and after BlackBox took it it was back online in record time. Wasn't an easy problem to solve since the company that was working on it didn't know what to do.

We mainly communicated using WhatsApp, given the urgency of the situation. They kept sending me status updates every half an hour and asking me to decide on matters that affected business (like renting a new server).

They’ve created different modules using various technologies, including HTML, JavaScript, and Python. There’ve been some complications along the way that restrained them from giving their best in terms of project management; however, they’ve done their best to get through each problem and kept us informed on the project’s progress. 

We use Google Meet and Trello as project management tools, and we communicate mainly via email and phone calls.

We’re impressed with the software platform; it’s very solid. Also, their team provides great advice on the technical aspects of the project — they guide us on the best formats and options to use for our platform’s design. Another thing we want to highlight is that despite the issues they’ve faced as a company, they always give their best to meet our expectations and are a trustworthy partner.
