On the app, users will share their experiences and find local hotspots in real-time — it’s based on crowdsourcing and group chat interactions.

I was looking for firms in the local Houston area because I thought it would boost our chance of success if both partners were passionate about the city. My engagement with Black Widow Tech began in August 2021, and our engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The app is almost done — Black Widow Tech is spearheading a beta test of about 100 users and polishing the code before finalizing the app. In the meantime, my in-house team is now putting together a marketing plan for a big rollout. I’ve referred several friends to Black Widow Tech because I’ve been so impressed with their work so far. 

How did Black Widow Tech perform from a project management standpoint?

Black Widow Tech has been in constant contact with me throughout the project, providing prototypes and designs for me to approve. We usually have meetings on Zoom and Google Meets.

We hadn't updated our website in over 15 years, so we needed someone to bring it up to date.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Black Widow Tech rebuilt our site using WordPress. First, we had a meeting to determine our needs. They divided the project into tasks assigned to different team members. We decided to use our existing content, but we cleaned it up and added updated content to match the new site. 

The team has completed the site, but they continue to help us with SEO and digital marketing. We've also decided to make two separate websites for our hospice care and home care services, so we're now working on another site with the Black Widow Tech team.

We were initially planning on building an app, so we did a Google search for the best local app developer and found Black Widow Tech. We read through their reviews on different sites, including Clutch.

Black Widow Tech has done a great job — everyone loves the site. Our internal team thinks it looks incredible.

How did Black Widow Tech perform from a project management standpoint?

They're a good team. I initially communicated only with Tahir, but I've gotten to know every teammate, so I just go directly to them if I need anything. We communicate through Google Meet and WhatsApp.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The team is flexible — whenever something comes up, and we need them to change courses, they pivot quickly to meet our needs. They've resolved all the issues we've raised in a timely fashion. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could improve on their project management. Specifically, the team could establish a clearer timeline to give us an awareness of when they'll work on certain things. However, I understand that every project is different, and they can't predict everything. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be as communicative as you can so and make sure you always know what's going on. It's just good to be aware of what's going on behind the scenes.

Black Widow Tech came in to build an iOS and Android app that deals with the scheduling and appointments of my business. The bulk of the work is mainly focused on implementing a gallery and a payment system, and they also provided me with a few pointers to help me promote the app so more people can download it.

Right now, they’re creating an e-commerce app for us.

While I can’t share any statistics as I don’t think there are many people who’ve downloaded the app yet, I’m still generally happy with the quality of the product. They were able to construct and deliver an app that was simple and user-friendly.

We typically communicate through email and phone, and the team responds right away whenever I need them.

We’re very impressed with the knowledge that they carry, and their ability to explain the technology to a person like me — they were able to make me understand what I was doing and getting into.

I don't know, as I'm not experienced enough to say if they need to improve on anything.

We were looking to test the viability of a membership program for our customers and needed an app to help facilitate the program. However, we didn’t want to spend too much on a fully functional app because we weren’t sure if our customers would actually respond to the program. Basically, we needed a team to help us develop a very simple app.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Black Widow Tech built a simple app for iOS and Android. Its primary function is to track membership points. It has two login portals: one for our admin team and another for our customers.

The app is scalable, so we’ll grow it and add more features when we want to. We’re now having discussions with Black Widow Tech on the second version of the software, which we plan on working on once we earn a certain number of membership subscriptions.

My main point of contact is Tahir (CEO & Product Manager). There were 3–4 other teammates during our initial call, but we’ve only interacted with Tahir since then.

I actually found them on Craigslist. I saved Black Widow Tech’s information just in case, but I was considering another vendor at the time. I had been looking for a team that could develop a simple app, and everyone I had talked to insisted on adding more features to drive up the prices.

Eventually, I decided to contact Black Widow Tech, who came and listened to our problems. They understood what I was looking for the first time and offered their expertise to help us create the deliverable we wanted.

The app is simple and easy to use. We’ve found a couple of bugs, but the team has already fixed them. They’ve also accommodated the modifications we requested.

We’re delighted with their project management. We primarily communicate through text and email. Tahir is always responsive — at some point in the project, he even got married and still kept in touch with me.

I’m impressed with their attitude and the quality of their communication. Tahir does a great job and is a real asset to their company. They’re a great team overall.

There has been some miscommunication with the pricing, but that’s all cleared up now.

They designed the prototype for the app, went through an engineering phase, tested the product for 16 days, and then released it — they built it from start to finish. We’re currently about to go into the marketing phase for the social media app.

We’ve been working with around four people on this project. We mainly work with Tahir (Product Manager) and Ahmar (UX designer), but there’s also a UI designer and a couple of engineers involved.

Their strength lies in their communication with the end-user. In terms of communication, we use emails and phone calls.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Tahir is a very charismatic leader, and he’s able to make things happen. He’s an intelligent and honest guy — that’s a good match-up. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could be better with the coding side and the small engineering matters — there’s always room for improvement. I also think they’re pricey, but the quality of their work is worth it.

Listen to them and follow their advice. They’ve done this several times, and they know what will work best for your business.

Black Widow Tech helped us build up a custom web app to be able to manage the payment of our employees. Aside from the app, they also created a portal to allow us to manage it.

Building the app was a really easy process; they didn’t have issues doing everything that we asked for.

Black Widow Tech communicated extremely well and very often, and the team was personable — it was easy to work with them. They immediately got what we wanted to do, so there wasn’t a lot of back and forth communication to clarify the project. It took us about four hours of meetings to get the project done, and it went pretty well.

What was the scope of their involvement?

My friend and I have always been entrepreneurs at heart, so we thought it would be nice if we could manage an online bartering platform. Our mobile app functions as a trading system that allows users to reach out to different people with who they want to trade items. It’s a unique way of letting go of items and gaining new ones without spending a penny. 

We kicked off our engagement with Black Widow Tech by relaying our ideas to their team and plotting out a project plan to subscribe to. Their team then gathered all the information from our staff to fully understand the deliverables and the flow of the project.

As for their regular workflow, Black Widow Tech submits design samples or prototypes to our team for review before they implement any changes per our team's request. The app is now up and running, but their team continues to support us by implementing changes and fixing any bug or server issues that can hinder the platform from performing well.

Black Widow Tech is a very detail-oriented team. They implement innovative solutions to improve our platform. I’m not very familiar with the realms of technology and social media platforms, but they always make it a point to educate me by explaining complex tech solutions and the need for their implementation. Their willingness to assist me in such matters makes each process simpler.

How did Black Widow Tech perform from a project management standpoint?

We mainly communicate via Zoom. It was Black Widow Tech’s owner who convinced me to use the said platform and walked me through the process of controlling it. I appreciate this extra touch of accommodation and the team’s constant effort to push me to do more innovative things. They manage our project well, and I always have access to real-time project updates.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their professionalism and guidance definitely make our project flow smoothly. Black Widow Tech has an admirable level of patience, especially when dealing with my queries and changing needs. Instead of countering my opinions or feedback, they strive to find the right ways to apply changes according to my preference.

I don’t think another agency’s as patient and passionate as Black Widow Tech — they made things happen for our startup business without questioning or underestimating our capabilities. I’ll always be grateful for our collaboration.

I have a consulting company that is called STEM Strategies Group, but at the time of this project, I was doing my dissertation at Rutgers University.

I was creating a math program for my dissertation and needed a software with animated lessons and other online components, so I worked with Black Widow Tech.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I created the lessons on my end along with a six-figure planning board and audio. Black Widow Tech took these, added my voice notes to the lessons, and created the graphics and animation, which were cartoons that could move and provide feedback loops. They built the website to allow students to click on answers and get a response on whether those answers were correct or incorrect. 

What is the team composition?

I worked directly with the project manager. They had a designer, an engineer, and an artist on their team as well. 

How did you come to work with Black Widow Tech?

I found the project manager on craigslist a couple of years before we actually worked together when my company was much smaller. When I was ready to work on the software, I reach out again about a year or two after connecting with him.

The partnership began around June 2019 and it took them a few months to complete the project.

I measured the success of the project through my dissertation. Basically, my research revealed that the students performed better using the software.

It was really easy working and communicating with the team. The project manager streamlined the whole development for everyone. He was always available via phone, and I never had issues getting in touch with him because he kept me abreast of the entire process. For anything that I wanted to make happen, they would let me know what it would entail and how long it would take.

I’m the CEO of SetForMarriage, a global online dating site.

What challenge were you trying to address with Black Widow Tech?

We needed Black Widow Tech to build a mobile application for our company and UX.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Black Widow Tech created a mobile app for us, which is available on iOS and Android. They designed the platform using Sigma Software. When we first reached them, we already had a pretty good idea of what we wanted. Upon our initial conversation, we spoke about our desired outcome.

From there, we started planning out what the project would look like and the cost structure. Once we agreed upon the contract cost and schedules, we started the app design, which took several months. From there, the construction started. Black Widow Tech team was able to enhance and modernize what we were envisioning through a collaborative effort that turned into the final product, which we’re now in the final completion stages of launching in the app stores. 

What is the team composition?

I’ve worked with the founder and CEO as well as the web and graphic designer.

How did you come to work with Black Widow Tech?

We found them through Clutch. Initially, from our company standpoint, we identified that we needed a mobile app built for our company. We looked overseas to see if it’d be more affordable or if there was a better solution, but none of those solutions we found worked out. Then, we looked through Clutch for mobile app developers in Houston because that’s where we live. From this final search, Black Widow Tech was one of the three options we found. 

We interviewed them and chose them for various reasons. For example, we appreciated their flexibility and synergies between our two companies, and they were willing to fit our budget. Moreover, the Clutch reviews on Black Widow Tech from other companies who’d worked with them played a part in our decision.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our first conversation with them was in September 2020, and we started the project development in October 2020. We’re working on completing this phase of the project in March 2021 and launching the apps to the App Store, but our work will continue with Black Widow Tech in the near future.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

From the initial conversation, when we drafted the contract and settled the timelines and expectations, we monitored if they were meeting the development timelines and what was being delivered in testing. We also paid close attention to the openness in communication. Black Widow lived up to and met all of our expectations. They delivered on everything that we've asked for.

How did Black Widow Tech perform from a project management standpoint?

In addition to SetForMarriage, our team also works in project management for another company, so we have a lot of experience managing and facilitating big projects. In that sense, it helps to speed the process along to know the cycle of a project like this. With Black Widow, we primarily communicated through email and over the phone, and all of our personal experience and Black Widow’s married up nicely, which has created a great relationship. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Black Widow stands out for its openness, ease of communication, and frequency in terms of the project’s status. In addition to that, the way they’ve been available to address any changes or adjustments we’ve had in the middle of the project or scope. They’ve been very easy and fluid to work with. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t know if what we went through could’ve been done any differently. They’ve delivered on everything we asked them to. They’ve put together project timelines, met those timelines, and communicated with us regularly. I don’t know if I’d change anything or do anything differently than what we’ve done in the past 6–7 months.

Have a plan of what you want them to build and have realistic timeline expectations.
