We're a Swiss SaaS [software-as-a-service] company that provides our clients a service that allows them to add online booking to their services with several other services like scheduling meetings and appointments, ratings, making promotions, sending reminders for meetings, and so on. I'm the founder.

What challenge were you trying to address with Binar::Apps?

It's very important that our service works all the time, and we were in a period where the person who used to handle the IT was no longer with the company, so I needed someone to do that work and make it better by adding new features.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We have a Ruby on Rails platform with a database with a React front-end. They maintain the code, database, and servers and receive any alerts when the servers go down. Our backend is very complex because clients have many appointments, and it needs to load fast and because those need to sync with other calendars.

How did you come to work with Binar::Apps?

This was the first time I used an outsource company, and it was important that I have a firm that cared about my business. I spoke to the CTO of Binar::Apps [Maciej Krasowski], and he was very responsive. I knew if the boss was that responsive, he would expect that from his employees as well. The first meeting I had with the team, they had already set up some things, which was comforting to me.

We began working with them in April 2016, and the work is ongoing.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

The loading time of our application has gone down drastically, which is very good. The application is very stable, and we've doubled our client base. I'm happy with the progress we've made. We will continue to move forward and build on what we have. We haven't received any calls that the system is down, which means everything Binar::Apps has done has worked. It's important for them to make the client happy. They're very serious, applied, and hardworking.

How did Binar::Apps perform from a project management standpoint?

We use Trello and Slack to communicate. They are very responsive, and their English is very good. They're very polite and open-minded.

What did you find most impressive about Binar::Apps?

One of the directors is very involved, but he doesn't take any credit for what the team does. When he sits in on the meetings, he lets the team take on the responsibility. He delegates responsibility to them and trusts them, but is also available to them when they need him. You can have a nice website and good references, but the quality of the team that's going to work on the project is very important.

Are there any areas Binar::Apps could improve?

They're specialized in Ruby on Rails backend and Angular, but I think there are other technologies that are very interesting that they could have more expertise in. I want to use the best technologies to make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m CTO of a marketing platform for merchants that drives repeat and new customers from cause-driven buyers. We provide a marketplace where the supporters of non-profits can raise money for their particular causes by going to merchants who have designated a percentage of that purchase to go back to the non-profit that the consumer is designating to benefit. We want to make it so that schools and children don’t have to sell wrapping paper and cookie dough to raise money for their PTO. They can go online and create an account, register their credit card, and then go to the merchants that are Boosterville merchants and make purchases with those cards. When they make those purchases, a portion of the sale goes back to the consumer’s non-profit. Our business is mostly in the US.

What challenge were you trying to address with Binar Apps?

I needed to find a firm that had expertise in React for the mobile web app, as well as the iOS and Android apps I wanted to create.

What was the scope of their involvement?

I was building out the backend of the apps so I just needed a firm that was focused on the UI using React JS and React Native. I gave them a published documentation and endpoints for all the APIs on the backend, so they built out the frontend using the APIs I’ve built. I have a dedicated developer assigned to this project and sometimes we use their web design skills as well.

How did you come to work with Binar Apps?

They were recommended to me by a friend. We chose them because of cost. They were also willing to do a proof of concept project to validate that they had the skill set and could deliver.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

Their cost is significantly less than anything I found in the US, without degradation of quality. The skills of the resource I have are great. Based on their partnership, we were able to deliver the first version of our app and launch and we’ve secured our Series C funding.

How did Binar Apps perform from a project management standpoint?

I’m not using their project management because he’s augmenting my team.

What did you find most impressive about Binar Apps?

They come from the startup industry and their team is young. They like learning new things. A lot of the companies in the US want you to fit in the mold. You define the project loosely and they do the whole project instead of augmenting the client’s team.

I’ve been very satisfied.

We are a cloud-sourcing solution to perform market research. We specialize in providing companies with information on their market presence, of the prices on the shelf position, and of the company materials.

We needed a mobile app developed from scratch and we needed the system to manage the thousands of people in the field that gather market information.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed an Android mobile app that our auditors use to recover required information. They developed the backend which manages sending information to those people and collecting research data from the market, which then aggregates the data and presents it in report form. They developed the whole database system in Ruby on Rails. We continue to add new functionality and each new release requires maintenance. We also have requests from our clients for specific changes.

How did you come to work with BinarApps?

One of the greatest differences we saw compared to other companies was the project management. They not only understand coding but also business. They provided great business input which was invaluable. They took our ideas made them better.

The mobile application is rated at 4.5 in the Google Play Store. We have several testimonials on the website.

How did BinarApps perform from a project management standpoint?

We were asked to provide them with the requirements and we had a few sessions that led to creating a joint understanding of what is to be delivered. We had several pre-release sessions where they provided us with the new functionalities and we tested it. We did a lot of Agile testing. They let us provide any change requests as needed. If we required additional functionality, they would price it out and give us a timeline of when it could be done. We use tools like Trello and Slack, where we track the progress.

What did you find most impressive about BinarApps?

They’re not only coders but they understand business. They provided us with a lot of valuable input. They’re very responsive compared to other firms I’ve worked with. They’re a well-organized business.

Are there any areas BinarApps could improve?

Sometimes, when we have a large amount of work to do and we don’t warn them that it’s coming, it takes a while to assign resources. This is normal with any firm.

Thanks to the audit we received a valuable insight on the condition of the code, alongside with a list of areas which will need firther improvements as well as a list of hotspots within security.

For what projects/services did your company hire BinarApps, and what were your goals?

We wanted to make cultivation control software. It manages irrigation (suitable values of nutrient solution, irrigation time, water and nutrient solution recycling), lighting, air humidity, gas concentration etc. The software makes remote viewing and management of the crop possible. Allows remote management of the crop.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We chose Binarapps from 4 other firms. They were involved for 100% from the beginning. Just after few talks, they knew what we need.

We made web aplication. Our work were based on scrum, and weekly sprints. Firstible we made a carful analysys and after that we start to work. Whole process was supervised by project manager and i could conntact with him anytime i need. We also used Slack for fast conntact, Jira, Figma, Lucidchart and Confluence. Every month i also get progress report form PM.

There were 10 ppl involved in project: techlead, 2 backend developers, 2 frontend developers, QA, PM, UX.UI designer and account manager.

Whole team were super involved in our project. There were many sugestions from whole team how to make our product better. They even came to our company to see how our technology works. We deliverd whole project on time which i think is big succes.

Project managment was on really high level. I had conntact with whole team, especially with PM and AM. My questions and doubts were immiediately solved. I could always check progress of work. We used Slack for fast conntact, Jira, Figma, Lucidchart and Confluence. Every month i also get progress report form PM. We spread project for few parts and set prioroity.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Peaople is the biggest advantage. I always felt understood and doesn't have to push team to action. They were super involved and professional. It was pleasure to work with this team.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Sometimes i couldnt see what backend developers did. Maybe there is an option for better presentation of their work.
