How did you come to work with Bharmal & Associates, Inc.?

I first came across them through a Yelp or Google search. After doing an in-person interview, Shoaib (Manager) was truly fantastic. He took time out of his day to answer all of my questions, giving me an abundant amount of information without charging me a dime.

How much have you invested with them?

We spend between $6,000–$8,000 a year. So far, we’ve probably spent at least $40,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in 2016.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They’ve done a great job. During my first year in business, I made twice as much money and paid half as much in taxes.

How did Bharmal & Associates, Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re incredibly communicative. We talk through email and in-person visits.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They truly know their stuff. Two or three times a year, someone sits down with me to plot the most beneficial areas for accounting and taxes for my business each year. I find that very helpful as I’m not a tax expert.

Getting that advice at the start of each year gives me a good idea of what to change and what to do next year to put myself in an advantageous position.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I wouldn’t mind cheaper prices. They’re not the most affordable, but they do great work.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Go for Shoaib; he’s the best.

I’m the CFO and owner of A1 Healthcare Management. We’ve been in business since 2003, providing certified home health services, Medicare, and hospices.

What challenge were you trying to address with Bharmal & Associates, Inc.?

We have a long history with Bharmal & Associates, Inc. They handle our taxes and advises us on accounting and taxation issues. The main challenge is making sure our account complies with medical regulations.

What was the scope of their involvement? 

Bharmal & Associates, Inc. acts as our certified public accountant (CPA). We maintain two separate account cases with them, one for each of our entities. A couple of times a year, they consolidate all of our books from each entity and report it under a single corporation for tax purposes. 

They’ve also done my personal and LLC taxes as well as managing my foreign investments. We recently did a 1031 Exchange, with one of our commercial buildings, and they did a very good job on that.

What is the team composition? 

We direct all of our accounting questions to Ismail (CEO & President) acts as our CPA, and there are two other people assisting him, including Shoaib (Manager).

How did you come to work with Bharmal & Associates, Inc.?

The IRS audited our company in the past, and our previous accountant wasn’t much help. Then, I met Ismail through a cold call. He appeared in the right place and at the right time. Ismail brought my attention to something in our books, and it ended up saving us a tremendous amount of taxation.

Ever since then, I’ve appreciated their years of experience and the out-of-box thinking that Shoaib brings. It’s a good combination that works for our businesses, real estate holdings, and personal taxes.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Their goal is to make our lives easier. As a Medicare-certified agency, our accounting is done very differently — the way the revenue is paid and booked is not the same, so they’ve had to learn our business to work effectively. It’s a seamless process, and their employees are very methodical. 

How did Bharmal & Associates, Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

Our main form of communication is email, but I like their cloud system, too. Our sensitive tax documents are safeguarded in their hub. 

They’re also responsive, responding promptly whenever I need advice. I recently faced a complicated business transaction, and Shoaib helped me a lot. I took my call late at night because he knew how important it was for me to close out this deal.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I appreciate that they always have my best interest at heart. They keep up with what’s going on in the taxation industry, advising me on any new changes. They’re an ethical, forthcoming, and methodical CPA to work with. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I’m happy with the way things are going. They’re already doing a great job improving their services.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

The relationship between a business and their CPA has to be based on trust. Give yourself enough time to develop that level of trust, and tell them your needs. They’re good at listening and will make sure that you get the best out of the relationship.

My previous CPA wasn’t giving me enough answers. Whenever I tried to contact him, they wouldn’t call me back. I wasn’t giving the results or one-on-one interaction I wanted.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The team does bookkeeping, payroll, and all the tax work. I usually do QuickBooks, and from there, I show them my ledger and everything each month. They take care of everything from there.

What is the team composition?

I work with two people from their team.

How did you come to work with Bharmal & Associates, Inc.?

A friend recommended them. He said they would be attentive to my needs. I needed that responsiveness.

How much have you invested with them?

We pay about $1,500 a quarter.

What is the status of this engagement?

I started using their services in December 2011.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They’ve shown me a lot of things in the length of our engagement. With my last CPA, it turns out that he was hiding stuff, and I could’ve gotten audited easily. They’ve shown me what to do not to have that happen. They do everything proper and to the point.

How did Bharmal & Associates, Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re incredibly responsive. We usually text or call. I’ll see them in person when I go in to give them my ledgers. They’ve come to my office as well.  If I have any questions, they’ll answer right away.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re family-based. I feel like they take care of their customers really well. They know what each client is worth, and they do their best to keep them happy.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t think so.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Make sure you communicate everything you need. Be straight up and don’t try and hide anything. If you do and they find it, it’s going to be a problem. The team will truly give you the best advice.
