Bad Rhino was instrumental in building out the social media during Phase-2 of the marketing strategy and Phase-3 aimed at Optimizing SEO to highlight brand, grow website visitors, and capture qualified leads seeking a memorable coastal event venue.

I'm the president of Bob Ross Inc. We're the behind-the-scenes support for famous painter Bob Ross and ensure he stays on television. We also manufacture and sell the unique painting materials the painter used and have certified instructors who do painting classes. Our company makes sure the painter stays in the public hearts and minds.

We needed social media marketing support. We were looking for support to get our message out on social media to increase our exposure and reach the millions of Bob Ross' fans.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Bad Rhino Inc. creates our social media content. We met with the team early in our engagement to define the types of messages we wanted to share with the public. From there, Bad Rhino Inc. has crafted messages for our audience. The team creates around 80% of our posts, and the other 20% are about specific subjects we request them to do. 

Bad Rhino Inc. suggests what types of posts we should do and what keywords to use. The team provides many suggestions because we aren't knowledgeable about social media. The team also opens new accounts, maintains our existing accounts, and helps us with paid and organic advertising on Facebook.

We regularly work with two teammates from Bad Rhino Inc.: a team member who manages the daily maintenance and posting and her boss who gets involved in almost every aspect of the project.

One of my graphic designers researched companies and found 3–4 service providers. We met with all the companies and were most impressed with Bad Rhino. The team seemed to understand our project and had an easier way of communicating with us. We also liked that Bad Rhino Inc. was down to earth and didn't speak technical language.

We began working with Bad Rhino Inc. in February 2023 and have worked uninterruptedly with the team.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We didn't have experience posting paid advertising before working with Bad Rhino Inc. The incident I'm most pleased about happened last year. We had a large painting class in Florida and needed to fill 300 seats, which was difficult for our company before. Bad Rhino Inc. embraced the project and filled the required seats with their experience and knowledge. 

There was a lot of machinery behind the scenes, and Bad Rhino Inc. filled our seats with very little investment because they understood how paid advertising worked. The team is very involved in the project. Bad Rhino Inc. understands our company and how to post, trying cold audiences versus warm audiences. 

How did Bad Rhino Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

We have many Zoom meetings at least once a month and send emails several times a month. Sometimes, the team waits for us. Bad Rhino Inc. has become such an integral part of our company and reminds us to be on time. Bad Rhino Inc. takes a very invested position in making sure that our social media channels are always flowing with perfectly toned messages. The way they work is very good for our disorganized company because they're an organized team. We rely on the team a great deal.

What did you find most impressive about them?

When we interviewed other service providers, we were particularly impressed that Bad Rhino Inc. understood our company and work. The team was familiar with Bob Ross and was excited about our company. Bad Rhino Inc. understood the assignment and stood out from other companies because they knew a personality needs to be promoted differently than a product; they had a good way of reflecting that when we selected them. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

The only stumbling block we've encountered is regarding our client's email list. We have a list of emails from people who have purchased our painting products and wanted Bad Rhino Inc. to manage our email account and social media. We couldn't click nor find a way for the team to manage both projects simultaneously to have a larger impact. 

However, our email list is small, and we don't feel we're missing anything. We had a desire to coordinate both projects but weren't able to figure it out. 

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

I suggest communicating with Bad Rhino Inc. constantly. Talk with the team to decide if they can help you with the required services and hear their thoughts about your ideas instead of trying to decide independently if they can help you or not. When you talk to them, they'll expose the steps they'll take for each project, and you'll be glad you contacted them instead of trying to do things for yourself.

After a period of learning and ramp-up toward expectations, Bad Rhino was able to understand our organizational and professional culture and subsequently provide vital support for our social media and marketing needs. In the absence of a dedicated employee on our team to handle these functions, we were in danger of losing audience, but Bad Rhino was able to step in and prevent that from happening.

We hired Bad Rhino to assess our social media assets and digital strategy and provide training, advice and next steps direction on areas where we could increase our outreach.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We were interested in locating an agency with strong experience in analysis and strategy, as well as experience with nonpartisan non-profits. Bad Rhino was one of very few PA firms that seemed to fit that description.

Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.

They did an audit of our social media accounts, including over 40 local Facebook pages, a statewide FB page, Instagram, multiple Twitter accounts, two websites, a YouTube channel, and 2 TikTok accounts. They identified gaps, affirmed areas where our work was strong, suggested the most productive places to direct additional energy, and created training and strategy documents. They also provide training sessions for our volunteer local Facebook page admins.

We worked with co-founder Rich as well as the digital marketing director and a social media intern.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We received good advice on growing local Facebook pages and help in pulling various pages and platforms into closer brand compliance. Bad Rhino advice also helped us jump-start our Tiktok accounts which grew from several hundred views to some posts with tens of thousands of views in just a few weeks.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We had multiple consultant/director zoom meetings, several training sessions with a larger team, one in-person meeting as well as multiple email and phone-check-ins. The Bad Rhino staff was responsive and communicated well.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They provided clear guidance on strategy and a good assessment of where we fit, what we could expect and where we should spend our energy. They were honest about what they would provide and delivered quickly and clearly.

Not really. We found their work very helpful.

Our client didn’t have a social media presence. We briefly attempted with another vendor who did paper marketing material but didn’t delve into social media. We were looking for a partner to build the client’s brand and get the word out about their products in the digital space. We had a large population eligible to participate and take advantage of our services, but we didn’t have a way to reach them outside social media.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Overall, Bad Rhino Inc. has given us the first opportunity to reach out to a vast audience we’d never reached out to before. They set up all our campaigns for Facebook and LinkedIn. They write some of the ads, and we provide others to them. Then, they set the ads and provide all the monitoring and tracking.

Bad Rhino Inc. also guides us on how to reach our audience better and is responsible for responding to comments. Sometimes they send questions back to us if the question is particularly complex.

We regularly work with two people, and four people are behind the scenes working on our account.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They provide monthly reporting regarding how our ads are doing on LinkedIn and Facebook. Also, they guide us to spend our budget to gauge the best impact. Due to how our market works, we can’t trace how likes convert into sales, but we receive a lot of feedback saying they’ve heard about us on social media. Overall, Bad Rhino Inc. has made it easier for us to turn leads into sales because people have already heard about us in multiple places. 

How did Bad Rhino Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re exceptional; their responsiveness is almost immediate. We have a monthly call to discuss the budget and where to spend it. Also, we review all the ads together and agree on whether or not they might need changes.

For project management, we use a content calendar. We mainly communicate via email, but we sometimes use phone calls and texts. Additionally, our monthly meeting is via Zoom.

What did you find most impressive about them?

First, their responsiveness is outstanding. They’re unbelievably swift at answering us and the people online. Secondly, they understand the different social media platforms and how we can best utilize them to increase our market share. We didn’t have any idea about it, and they’ve done an exceptional job.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Honestly, I don’t have any critical feedback. Initially, when they didn’t answer a question exactly how we wanted, they were quick to make changes.

I’m one of the seven members of Insurance Trust for Delta Retirees’ board of directors. We’re an insurance company that supplements Medicare. When patients go on Medicare, it only covers 80%, so people sometimes need help with the 20% left. Thus, we have a group insurance policy made for people who used to work at Delta to get that supplemental insurance covered.

We have a small market. Only a small group of people can be eligible to even be on this program, so we can’t advertise ourselves with billboards or other traditional marketing strategies. Given that the eligible people are also over 65 years old, we needed help with finding a way to reach out to the few of them who were on social media and get them to respond.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Bad Rhino has helped us with our marketing strategies. Their first task was to convenience the seven of us on the board of directors to try the approach they were suggesting. Two of us were already on board, but Bad Rhino quickly got the rest of us on board as well.

Since then, they’ve been helping us create and manage advertising campaigns. They’re in charge of targeting the right market and managing our budget. Additionally, they help us answer comments on Facebook and oversee our account so that everything is in order.

In addition to Facebook, Bad Rhino helps us manage and leverage other social media platforms they consider to be beneficial for our company. For example, they manage our LinkedIn account. Besides social media advertising, they help us with regular social media posting by creating informational content for our social media accounts. Moreover, they’re currently exploring ways to leverage Google Ads.

Initially, the approach and steps Bad Rhino took were phenomenal because they quickly got the board of directors on board. Now, we can see the results of their efforts through various metrics, such as the number of impressions, click-through rates, and responses. Overall, Bad Rhino has proved themselves every step of the way, and they’ve turned our company around with such an amazing job.

Before working with Bad Rhino, we were losing clients and were not able to maintain our business. However, since they joined and started implementing new initiatives, we’ve seen an increase in our customers. Still, we implement other strategies ourselves, so we can’t provide exact metrics on how big Bad Rhino’s impact has been on those results.

How did Bad Rhino Inc. perform from a project management standpoint?

Bad Rhino has never missed a deadline, and they’ve always been below budget. Additionally, they’re always on top of things, answering comments on social media quickly and solving problems with promptitude. Although they’re very young and not familiar with our product, they always contact us when they have doubts so that they can get an answer and solve problems with our followers instantly.

As for communication, Bad Rhino keeps in touch with our broker on a regular basis, and they meet with us once per month to go over our metrics. Whenever needed, they change and modify campaigns to keep everything on goal, and they explain what’s going well and what isn’t, guiding us through the process.

Moreover, they send us a monthly report, and we have a conference call with our marketing committee and Bad Rhino’s co-founder to go over those results. Once per year, they also met with our entire board of directors to explain our progress and where were headed towards.

Bad Rhino Inc. valued our individuality. Instead of making assumptions, they took the time to get to know us and used that information to craft a successful strategy. They’re open-minded, candid, and flexible, and their approach was refreshing and effective.

Our relationship was unique in terms of the overall scope. Typically, we take on clients that already have a sophisticated social media offering. Because this engagement differed from the norm, we hit a few speed bumps in the beginning before figuring out the most effective ways to utilize their expertise.
