We needed help with developing a new product offering for patient education.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The B Team is helping us build custom software for our new product offering — we’ve worked with them from the beginning. First, we looked at the requirements for the software long term and decided how to start and what would be a value first. During this process, The B Team came to the table with ideas and how to best go about creating those ideas.

Since then, The B Team has been helping us with the software development side of our project. We have another team in charge of the design, but The B Team has worked with them and participated in that side also. As for the technology stack, they use React, React Native, Gatsby, GraphQL, Azure Content Delivery Network (CDN), and Azure Active Directory Single Sign-On (SSO).

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Throughout the process, The B Team has delivered useful software, which we’re now implementing. Although the solution entails a number of different factors, the software has been a large and significant piece of that solution.

How did The B Team perform from a project management standpoint?

The B Team is extremely process-oriented and delivers ahead of the deadlines. Additionally, they’re very responsive, and their flow is very good, so their project management is excellent. Their transparency and caring attitude toward their work have been part of our success.

We have weekly calls, so I know where we stand every week and what the development team is doing. The B Team has a great format for keeping me informed and uses tracking tools for their development work, so I can use those tools at any time to take a look at their progress. Besides our weekly calls, we exchange emails in between calls, and we can call them over the phone whenever we need something.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The B Team is very forward-thinking regarding technology — their expertise is excellent. They come to the table with ideas and are excellent to work with because they have a passion for doing a great job. Working with them simply flows because everyone wants the best end result.

I’ve been on software development projects many times throughout the last 30 years, so I know what a successful team looks like. Whenever I look for a development partner, I expect more than coding. I look for a partner with whom I can work together so that they understand what I’m trying to accomplish and provide feedback.

The B Team has not only provided me with information about the technologies they’re using, but they’ve also given me input on how to develop this software. That part has been very important to me as well. Overall, it has been a really good relationship, and I look forward to continuing our engagement into a long-term relationship.

Given that The B Team is very passionate and focused on providing a great end result, improvement comes with it every step of the way. Whenever there’s an adjustment needed, they’re very open to it.

Our client came to us after hiring another agency to develop their website. It quickly became clear that the hired agency could not deliver on their promises and would miss both deadlines and budgets. We brought in The B Team to be our backend experts so we could focus on the branding and messaging, and have subject matter experts nail the backend.

We had prior experience with The B Team leadership through other agencies in past years. We loved the work, the people, and the relationships, so were looking forward to continuing with the teamwork.

After a briefing meeting, we asked The B Team to audit the prior agency's site design to identify issues or needs for improvement before we got into our own development.

The audit revealed a wide range of problems created by the original agency that needed to be addressed before we went further with the site. The client was frustrated that there were issues but thankful that we had caught them before those issues caused the greater site to fail.

From that point forward, The B Team was fully integrated into our teams, attending weekly status meetings and client reviews as part of our organization so our client didn't see a separation between the work getting done.

The complexity of the site required extensive plug-ins, database management, shipping and medical connections, plus drop-down menus, carousels, and more. The B Team had to accommodate existing website challenges plus new hurdles created when the client wanted to increase the functionality of the site.

We were assigned a project manager who was fully integrated into our team throughout the project. Others, including partners, were involved as needed to provide guidance and subject matter expertise along the way.

Although we didn't have visibility to the client-side details related to their customers, our clients were thrilled with the results and continued expanding the site for six months longer than originally planned. Second-hand feedback was that internal and external customers were very happy with the results.

We had weekly internal meetings that turned into daily stand-ups when things got really busy. Weekly client meetings kept the clients on the same page as we moved massive amounts of information, content, designs, design assets, etc. The B Team was part of every meeting as needed. We used Redmine for their project management needs and keep things on one platform.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Flawless engagement, strategy, development expertise, and delivery. They functioned as a fully-integrated part of our local team and helped bring an unwieldy, dysfunctional project start to a spectacular finish.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

Any issues we found were from trying to fix problems created by another agency and realign expectations to what was truly possible. The B Team was consultative, connected, and fully engaged throughout the process.

The software they created has processed over 1 million photos, and everything functions according to our expectations. 

How did The B Team perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve met our deadlines, set good expectations, and communicated efficiently — everything has been smooth. In terms of tools, we use Dropbox, Redmine, and Zoom.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re a team capable of addressing our needs, and if they don’t know how to do something, their team does research to figure out how to get it done. In addition, The B Team is transparent and straightforward, which makes things go smoothly without over-promising — they always do what they say they will without any unpleasant surprises.

I don’t think there’s anything they can improve on. We have different time zones, but The B Team is always available for us.

Be as involved as you can from the beginning and paint them a clear picture of what you want to accomplish so they can understand the scope and assess if they can get the work done.

I’m the founder and CEO of an app called Any All Every. We help connect individuals within the freelance industry.

What challenge were you trying to address with The B Team?

Our business initially started with a printed book, but we realized that moving to a website and an app would be a better approach for us. We brought The B Team on as a developer to build an iOS and Android app. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We had wireframes and functionalities of the app laid out, and The B Team took those and built the app from there. Certain functionalities and features have changed over time, and they've been responsible for updating the code and getting it approved. 

We’re currently collaborating on a pricing structure and finalizing our MVP. They’re providing coding and building out the marketing schedule for that. They’re the developer, but they’re also helping us in other avenues for the product. The B Team is responsible for taking the MVP to the final product.

We work with three people: a project manager and two developers.

They were a referral. When we first met with them, we felt like they’d be a great fit for our company, and they had a lot of enthusiasm for the project, which we appreciated. Their bid was also structured in a way that we as a startup could handle. They seemed like they would make the process as easy and seamless as possible.

We’ve invested around $68,000 so far.

We started working together in March 2018, and it is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We initially launched the beta version in Chicago and New York, and garnered around 150 users. Each customer used the subscription model to be a part of it, and about 75% of these users paid for a full year of service. 

How did The B Team perform from a project management standpoint?

They finish work on time, and we’ve only had issues with third parties holding up the process. During those times, The B Team has gone above and beyond to manage the process and get it moving. We communicate via Zoom and emails. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re always one step ahead, and if there are any issues, they provide actionable solutions. They’re a great partner to work with and incredibly personable. They’re really good about breaking things down for us and getting ideas down to the basics to figure out what we need. They also don’t waste our money on bells and whistles that we don’t require on an MVP, which we appreciate.

We had to get used to their schedule and process, but they manage it very well.

Let them do their job because they know a lot and can do a lot for you if you trust the process.

Our company is a global digital rewards agency. We supply wholesale branded currency for promotions, loyalty programs, market research and employee incentives. I am the co-founder and CEO.

We hired the B Team to develop our marketing site as well as our reward delivery platform. It was important that our 1,000 global rewards in 23 currencies be delivered seamlessly from a single platform and API.

The B Team is very nimble and responsive in its development structure. It was important to us to have a partner that was able to scale for large programs, but could still implement changes on an aggressive timeline. Their ability to see the big business picture was also important.

We used Wordpress for our marketing site, and Laravel for our delivery platform, hosted in Microsoft Azure. There are weekly builds to our SaaS platform, and monthly updates to our marketing site.

Our year over year growth is a direct result of the B Team being able to scale their development operations and tools. We've enjoyed 1.5X to 4X growth annually over the past 6 years as our technology platform has matured.
