Our ongoing collaboration with Axon Active has so far been extremely positive and productive. The team at Axon Active was initially brought on board to handle bug fixing and maintenance of an existing software solution. Their ability to quickly understand the existing code and efficiently resolve issues impressed us from the start.

At the same time, Axon Active is working on a complete rebuild of our software solution. They are not only replacing the existing solution but are also continuously expanding it with numerous new features that will significantly enhance our internal processes. The new stack they are developing is much more modern and powerful, which we have already seen in the initial implementations.

Axon Active has been supporting us excellently in every phase of the project. The key deliverables so far include the careful planning of sprints, where they work closely with our team to define priorities and goals. They create precise and well-thought-out user stories that serve as the foundation for development work.

During the technical implementation, the team at Axon Active demonstrates deep expertise and high professionalism. They are always striving to deliver the best possible solution and show a high degree of flexibility in adapting to our evolving requirements.

Moreover, Axon Active conducts comprehensive testing to ensure that all new features are bug-free and fully functional. Their thorough approach to quality assurance and testing has already contributed to developing a reliable software solution.

Although the project is not yet completed, we are very satisfied with Axon Active's work so far. They have proven that they are not only capable of solving existing problems but also of developing innovative and sustainable solutions that provide real value. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and can already highly recommend Axon Active.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Although the project is still ongoing, we have already achieved several measurable successes that demonstrate progress. Thanks to the bug fixes and optimizations carried out by Axon Active, we have significantly reduced the number of software bugs, improving the stability and reliability of our existing solution.

Regarding the new stack, Axon Active has already successfully implemented the most critial planned new features, which gives us confidence that we will meet our project goals. All planned sprints have been completed on time and within budget, and we have already received positive feedback from our internal stakeholders on the progress made.

Before we started working with Axon Active, we were very skeptical about outsourcing software development services. However, Axon Active provides exactly the project management and collaboration style that we were looking for. The communication between us and Axon Active is highly professional and focused on achieving results. We always receive full support from both the management and the project leaders. Axon Active has exceeded our expectations in every way.

AXON ACTIVE is exceptionally well-organized, and their communication with us is flawless. The development teams are highly responsive to our needs, despite cultural differences. We are particularly impressed that we were able to significantly improve the quality of our software after switching from internal development to Axon Active.

We are thrilled that Axon Active takes care of the entire HR, payroll and team management process, allowing us to focus more on tasks like customer relations, strategy, and application architecture. Furthermore, Axon Active is highly committed to ensuring that our teams remain stable, with employee turnover being extremely rare, and team members having a deep understanding of the applications.

Are there any areas for improvement or something AXON ACTIVE could have done differently?

In my opinion, the biggest challenges arise from the cultural differences between Switzerland and Vietnam. For example, it can be challenging to receive critical feedback from developers on my proposed solutions because hierarchy holds a much higher value within companies in Vietnam.

Building the new platform to replace the legacy platform. The body of work includes integration, web and a new data layer.

What were your goals for this project?

Replace the legacy platform with a modern serverless implementation. Public API for partner integration. New web frontends. Advanced analytics and behavioural analysis.

How did you select this vendor?

We evaluated more than 50 companies in Vietnam. The evaluation was based on a fix criteria and for each vendor a score was evaluated. Axon Active was our top choice,

Implementation of the data services based on time series databases as per our designs. Implementation of the middleware services using AWS Lambda as per our specs. Development of the public and private APIs as per specs. Development of the web frontends for administration and customer portal.

What was the team composition?

We have 4 teams (Data, API, legacy and Frontend). Each team is represented by a core team member who attends our stand-ups and owns the delivery. The data team are responsible for implementing the data model changes, and data migration and synchronisation. The API team are developing the serverless implementation of middle tier. The legacy team are providing maintenance services for the legacy applications. Finally the frontend team are developing the web frontends.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

Extension of the legacy lifecycle due to continuous maintenance provided by the legacy team, including late landing business requirements. Promising platform features with the new work, as observed by early demos.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

We are running an agile engineering practice. All specs, architecture and designs are driven from Melbourne. All business requirements are articulated and formulated in Melbourne. The team in Axon have limited degree of freedom when it comes to implementation, but we are slowly giving them more choices.

Their accuracy, culture, flexibility, and determination to resolve all problems impressed us.

I’m the CIO of a company that develops financial platforms for information gathering and payments. We develop products both for ourselves and for customers.

What challenge were you trying to address with Axon Active?

We were looking for a company that we could trust as well as one that could adapt to our way of working.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Axon Active provides us with a scrum team, and we operate as product owners. Initially, we developed an online application in Java, and we’ve since moved to AngularJS. With Axon Active’s help, we’ve expanded the product scope and lifecycle during that time. They also set up a technical testing team on their end.

What is the team composition?

We’re currently using 35 developers from Axon, but the team’s fluctuated up and down, with a peak of 50.

How did you come to work with Axon Active?

I had a good feeling about Axon Active from the beginning. I chose them because they offered Java development and could provide direct communication. In contrast, the other companies I’ve worked with were not as flexible. At the time, Axon Active was also a good size for us, but they’ve grown quite a lot since then. Salaries were lower 10 years ago, so they had a more attractive offer.

How much have you invested with them?

The total cost so far has been over $5 million.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Axon Active in August 2009, and the engagement is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve completely rewritten our software since starting our collaboration with Axon Active. Previously, it would take us weeks to fix an issue, but now, it’s a completely different story. We’re currently releasing on time, and customers aren’t reporting problems. Plus, we’re ISO-27001-certified, which is something that our customers were demanding. We emphasized security at the beginning and Axon Active adapted to this.

We recently explained at a customer event how and where we develop our software and shared some of our success stories. As a result, there was great interest in working with Axon Active as well, and many clients gave positive feedback about the overall quality.

How did Axon Active perform from a project management standpoint?

During the collaboration with Axon Active, we shifted to a more agile approach. Communication is straightforward. Product owners from my company work together with their teams. We meet regularly for the planning and review part. They brought their own opinions and adapted to our requirements. If we had an issue, they were willing to communicate with us and address it quickly.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I appreciate their passion—it’s the reason we’ve been working together for so long. I regularly visit their office in Vietnam, and it’s quite fun to exchange ideas with their team. That’s what makes this a special collaboration for me. I hope that we’ll remain an important customer for them.
