Deliver a twitter-style app that would enable citizens to report issues related to their communities (for example: reporting pot holes, rubbish tips, fallen trees, etc etc). The mobile app would enable users to submit issues using their mobile phone cameras, as well as the precise location of the idetified issues. Key deliverables included a complete corporate/app identity, apps for android and ios, as well as a website.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The project was delivered within the agreed budget, which in retrospect was very modest. Art & Code contacts were excited to work on a potentially socially useful app. The budget constraint meant that resources could only be pulled in as and when they were available. 

This meant that the time-frame was quite long, but this was also agreed beforehand. The deliverables (app identity, website, mobile apps) were completed on time and within budget, as well as to a standard we felt was over and above our expectations at the outset.

Items were delivered within the pre-agreed timeframe. As mentioned, our budget constraints implied a longer timeframe than would normally be the case, which suited us perfectly. Progress was monitored at regular intervals, in face to face meetings. We were not privy to their project management between those meetings, but the agreed work was delivered. 

Of particular note is Art & Code's client management. We had no prior experience of app development and Art & Code were able to suggest changes to the project scope as we went along, in order to deliver the most important functionality to the highest standards whilst leaving the nice-to-have frills as a list of next steps.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their ability to be realistic about what can and cannot be achieved within a proposed time-frame and budget. Their ability to suggest very useful modifications to the project scope (ei client management). As a result quality did not suffer and we were very happy with the end product.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Art & Code Studio could have done differently?

With hindsight we would have appreciated a back-up of the work to be held at the company. This was not agreed beforehand and all the work was delivered to us for safekeeping, in line with our contract as well as industry standards as they were at the time. As the project fell by the wayside over time (on our side), and our priorities shifted elsewhere, as well as key people leaving our company - this implied that much of the work was hard to reconstruct and is essentially lost through no fault of Art & Code.

What challenge were you trying to address with Art & Code Studio?

We needed to refresh our branding, website, and visual identity.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Art & Code Studio redesigned our brand’s visual identity and created new brand messaging and guidelines. The team also helped us create a new logo, which we used to revamp our business cards, memorandums, contracts, and other documents. 

Additionally, they built our new website from scratch using WordPress. The website has information about our company and roughly 60 of our projects. We provided pictures of our projects, which they uploaded to the new website. Each project has a brief description outlining the type of project and the year it was built. Art & Code Studio also hosted the new website. 

Now, they only help us with sporadic maintenance requests. 

What is the team composition?

We’ve worked with 3–4 team members from Art & Code Studio, including Vladan (Founder & Creative Director), a web developer, and a designer. 

How did you come to work with Art & Code?

We’ve invested about €25,000 (approximately $26,000 USD) in the partnership with Art & Code Studio. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Art & Code in January 2018 and launched the site in January 2019. They still help us with website maintenance.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Art & Code Studio has given us a completely unique website design that sets us apart. I’ve also been really happy with their branding and website development work. We don’t have concrete engagement metrics, but I believe the new website has attracted more leads.

The Art & Code Studio team has managed the project effectively and professionally. They’ve delivered work on time and communicated openly via phone and Skype. We’ve also met with them in person.
