Scope of Work:

Apptimist is our development partner on KangaCAM, a HIPAA-compliant NICU photography platform. They inherited an existing codebase and have led architecture and implementation since taking it over, working across a three-surface platform: a Blazor WebAssembly PWA running on iPad devices at the bedside, a Blazor Server admin portal for hospital staff, and a Super Admin portal for internal operations, all on a shared .NET/PostgreSQL core.

Key Deliverables:

• Took over and continued development of the existing three-surface platform (.NET 10, shared Core library and API)
• Ongoing work on the photo capture and delivery workflow: session creation, photo editing, and the two-gate consent system before a photo is shared 
• Bereavement mode maintenance and enhancement 
• Maintained MMS and email delivery integration through Twilio and SendGrid
• Maintained Auth0 SSO integration with role-based access (Super Admin, Owner, Admin, Member)
• Built out CI/CD pipeline on GitHub Actions with OIDC-authenticated Azure deploys and separate staging/production environments
• Migrated the database from SQL Server to PostgreSQL
• Present at the start of our HIPAA/security pentest engagement
• Pipeline testing, debugging, and documentation
• Knowledge transfer and runbooks for your team

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

• Database migration completed: MSSQL to PostgreSQL, across staging and production, both fully operational
• Zero critical, zero high findings in the independent CyberGlobal pentest (July 9, 2026), covering admin, app, and API surfaces, gray-box, authenticated testing
• 19 of 21 test categories passed clean in the pentest coverage table (authentication, session management, authorization/access control, injection, XSS, CSRF, business logic, admin interface, API security, logging/audit all passed)
• 2 environments fully provisioned and isolated: staging and production, each with its own resource group, database, App Services, and CI/CD path
• Deployment process moved from manual to automated CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Docker build to ACR push, multi-stage builds for staging/prod).
• Secrets centralized in Azure Key Vault with managed identities, replacing whatever the prior ad hoc handling was.
• Monitoring and alerting stood up via Application Insights where there was previously none.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

Apptimist rebuilt our cloud infrastructure: resource groups, RBAC, PostgreSQL Flexible Server for staging and production, Azure Container Registry, App Services for our API, web portal, and PWA, Key Vault for secrets management, Blob Storage, and Application Insights for monitoring and alerting. They then built out a full CI/CD pipeline on GitHub Actions with Docker builds, automated multi-stage deployments, and configuration management, and left us  with proper knowledge transfer.

Apptimist ran the work in clearly scoped sprints with upfront pricing and itemized deliverables, which made it easy to track progress. We kept a consistent meeting cadence throughout, and they were consistently responsive, often going beyond the strict scope of what was billed to help us out. Deliverables came in on the timeline we agreed to.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Our team clicked with Martin right away. We especially appreciated his transparency during the hiring process when he brought on a new developer, he understood the importance of team fit and made sure we had input along the way. Martin's worldliness, he's well-traveled and speaks multiple languages, brings a valuable perspective to how he leads the team. He's also always looking to improve and takes feedback well, which made the working relationship feel like a genuine partnership rather than a typical vendor arrangement.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Apptimist Studio could have done differently?

The only reason our engagement with Apptimist ended was an opportunity we couldn't pass up: the chance to bring on a local developer in-house. This wasn't a reflection of any shortcoming on Apptimist's part, they were a strong partner throughout, but building out our internal team felt like the right next step for KangaCAM at this stage. We'd have no hesitation recommending them to other founders looking for a responsive, technically capable development partner.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We were able to design the full application in a very positive way. I could not be happier with the design. Very innovative design that could go head to head with any other SAAS product. As of today we are about 70% complete for our first phase which will improve our ability to move our business forward. I am very satisfied with the leadership in the company and ability to generate measurable progress and a very proffesional and detailed manner. I feel very comfortable that the leaders project very honest and feelings of trust.

Absolutely! anytime we where behind was because I would hold the project behind. Their project managers helped hugely not only keeping project going but helping improve my ideas and thoughts.

Our desire was to get a beautiful, functional and optimized website. It was difficult for us to set additional requirements, since this field is very distant for us. The team at Aptimist Studio did an amazing job, both with the realization of the site itself and with informing us in detail about each step, helping us understand the important things and making an informed decision about what exactly we want to achieve. 

The ability to communicate extremely well with their clients sets Aptimist Studio's team apart from other companies we have had to work with.

Our idea was to start advertising after completing the site. But even before we had made the final settings, we started getting bookings through the site, and within just a month we had over 50% increase in visits. And that without additional advertising campaigns.

They definitely get things done on time. It even happened that they performed additional optimization things in the time between our separate meetings. They were very helpfull for us with their ideas and this made the things to finish faster.

One of the things that sets Apptimist Studio apart is their good communication, flexibility, and excellent ideas. Especially for customers like us who can hardly formulate their requests.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Apptimist Studio could have done differently?

We appreciate constructive criticism and if we think of something we'd share it right away, but we really can't find such. In our case, it was the perfect choice.
