I’m the founder and CEO of a sports app for university sports clubs.

We wanted to get our MVP launched.

What was the scope of their involvement?

AppLaunched developed our app’s MVP from scratch. We provided them with all the designs done on Figma and specifications of what we were looking for, and they built the basic version of our app.

We did more work with them, and they helped us further develop the product based on feedback.

What is the team composition?

We worked with Oliver (Founder), a frontend developer, a backend developer, and someone who worked on the web aspect of the project. They also brought in other people at different times when they needed extra work done.

How did you come to work with AppLaunch Limited?

I found them online, and I decided they’d be a good fit because they were based in the same place as I was, making it convenient to see them in person. I spoke with Oliver, and he came across very well. He put me in touch with people who’d worked with AppLaunch, and they spoke very positively.

They were also small at the time, so we took a risk on each other on the basis that if we both did well, they’d get more work out of the project; we reached a fair agreement. 

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about £25,000, including VAT.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from November 2020–May 2021. We’re likely to use them again a few months down the line.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We’ve raised investment off the back of the app AppLaunch developed for us. Currently, we have three active sports club customers and 1,000 users on the app.

How did AppLaunch Limited perform from a project management standpoint?

They were very good at project management. They were clear in terms of what should be done and very honest. The majority of communication happened via email, though we did use Trello for a bit. I’d also call them, and when there was something quite important, I’d jump on an electric scooter and head down to their office to chat.

The only lacking area was the timeframe; things would often take longer than initially anticipated. There was an instance where something wasn’t ready a week before it was due, and things got pushed back quite a lot. However, that was in the earlier days of the project. They were more on it later in terms of project management and keeping me updated.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The fact that AppLaunch was a small company was helpful for us to build a really good relationship with them. There was a lot of honesty as the engagement developed, and I got to know their team members. 

They weren’t just doing the work; they wanted to get behind what we were doing. AppLaunch was keen to support us and very honest about where they could and couldn’t add value, which was the best thing about them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We had issues with the timing early on. Delays are inevitable, but effective communication about it could have improved. We’ve also had a number of issues within the app that have taken quite a long time to fix. On the whole, they were really good, though.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I would advise being really clear on what work is being done. The more detail you give at an early stage, the better, even if it’s just putting together a specification. It’s good not to go into the project blindly.

Having some basic level of understanding of technical aspects is useful, too. Communicate with other tech people who have also developed apps outside of AppLaunch. Although it’s easy to get lost in the technological world, Oliver is a good communicator and explains things well.

We were developing an app which is like uber for hair so you can order an on demand stylist to wherever you want. Goals were to release two apps and do something no one has done!

We found them online and after speaking to many they were the best priced with the best history

We did a few meetings at the beginning to figure out scope then I supplied them with UX and UI They listened and came up with the perfect solution and within 2 weeks had something to show me

I had Oliver working closely with me however there was others on the team doing the work for me but he was my point of contact

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We have only launched the IOS app now launching the android app. The ios app was amazing and worked perfectly, Oliver was in charge of the backend work and was very easy to work with always able to contact him and was always willing to explain and help.

They are very easy to contact by any means and are always very responsive.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Oliver is very down to earth and easy to talk to making the whole process seamless I have very much enjoyed working with them and would tell others to work with them for sure!

No none.

I belonged to a professional healthcare organization as a pediatrician in the UK.

What challenge were you trying to address with AppLaunch Limited?

We were supporting medical care in Myanmar, so we were trying to build a health app that could help health professionals improve their treatment for children with serious emergency health complaints.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We had developed an app on Android five years ago, and what we wanted to build with AppLaunch Limited is a version of it for iOS. They took the initial source code, updated it, and developed a few new features — which made the app look more professional. This development involved a number of guidelines and features, including a drug calculator that measures doses using the patient’s weight or age.

Furthermore, we instructed them to make the app downloadable, available offline, and to make it as small as possible to allow people in rural settings to access it.

What is the team composition?

We mainly worked with Oliver (Founder & Managing Director), and he was very good at keeping us up to date with the development, and discussing exactly what we needed.

How did you come to work with AppLaunch Limited?

I believe we came across them through a Google search, but they were also relatively local to where we were located in Bristol, UK. AppLaunch Limited was also extremely generous in giving us a charity discount, since we’re a charity organization — they knew how to give us the help we needed very quickly, and for a reasonable price.

How much have you invested with them?

In total, we spent around £2,000 GBP (approximately $2,700 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

The partnership ran from July–September 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our overall objective was to have a functioning app that can work offline in rural areas, and they delivered on that. In terms of metrics, our user base has significantly gone up after we launched the app — it got to around 4,000 users over the last few months, and it definitely increased after their input.

How did AppLaunch Limited perform from a project management standpoint?

They started and finished ahead of schedule, and were very communicative throughout the duration of the project. They also kept us updated on the progress and were very responsive to our emails.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We like that they were very efficient and pragmatic, and they just got on and accomplished the project — I was really impressed that they didn’t need a lot of hand-holding, and the fact that I didn’t have to chase after them all the time.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t really remember having many problems working with them. Maybe for our budget, we didn’t really have a lot of say of how things were going to come out — so it would’ve been great to have a couple more options on the interface and the functionality of the app. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

First off, I would recommend them to anyone who is interested in working with them. I would also suggest discussing options prior to the development of your product, so you can properly describe what you want to achieve.

Making the process of building an App simple for a non-technical team. That Oli was great at driving the project forward and getting it done within a tight deadline.

Not really.

We searched on line for an App developer in our area. We interviewed 4 companies and selected AppLaunch because of their ability to communicate with us about our vision, location proximity and value for money.

We had a series of meetings to discuss our objectives, wire frames and designs. Their turnaround time has been quick and all deadlines have been achieved, with some exceeded. Beta testing has run smoothly and AppLaunch has been both flexible and helpful when incorporating amendments during a period of trials in the UK and Australia.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The measurable outcomes to date are positive; the purpose of the app being to manage individual worries for the user and offer a pathway of small change to improve happiness. The further development of the platform to better understand worry is on going.

AppLaunch is characterized by a friendly and professional workplace culture. Very clear operating procedures are in place. Excellent communication skills both in person and by telephone are a strength of the company. The Project Manager is always contactable and helpful by offering pragmatic solutions.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

As a new entry company operating out of the UK and Australia, They are patient, leading us through various processes as we developed our product.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

No. We made excellent progress all the more impressive as there were manly operational constraints on us during the pandemic.
