Modex was founded in 2016. Our mobile app allows users to send small amounts of money to any part of the world. The app has chat and video calling functionalities, and money can be transferred while on a call.

The company became interested in blockchain in 2018. We’ve developed a product called ‘blockchain as a database,’ which is the main driver in our company right now. We’ve also developed custom software for other companies that are primarily in fintech and the banking industry. 

I’m the product research lead at the company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Adonis Software?

We needed a bigger mobile development workforce.

What was the scope of their involvement?

During our partnership with Adonis Software, we took care of documentation, and they handled mobile development. Our head of product determined what the product would look like and constructed wireframes. A business analyst established the flow, and we created a functional and non-technical document. Our technical team then translated that into a technical document, which provided more detailed instructions. Adonis Software used both of those documents when they wrote the code.

We developed a few financial apps with Adonis Software’s help. One of the apps was for iOS and Android, and another was web-based. We had multiple projects with them, some of which overlapped.

What is the team composition?

We hired iOS and Android developers from their side. The median team size was four people per project.

How did you come to work with Adonis Software?

One of our colleagues made a market study. We were looking for developers in our area. Compared to others, Adonis Software was more flexible and gave us more details on the people that would be working for us.

Development is a very competitive market; we knew that if the developers didn’t like the project, they’d disappear the next day. Therefore, it was very important to us that the developers like our project. We didn’t want to have many changes to the team, since it would take a lot of time to onboard someone new.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent over €300,000 (approximately $363,000 USD) with Adonis Software across all of the projects.  
 
What is the status of this engagement?

The contract ran between January 2017–January 2021. We only ended it because the project ended, but we plan to work with Adonis Software on an as-needed basis. The products they’ve developed are live and running.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We used the same metrics for Adonis Software as we do for all of our team’s developers. We track the number of items that need reworking, the number of bugs generated, and the severity of the bugs. The developers from Adonis hit all of the marks on our threshold for good developers.

One of the apps they developed has been live in the app stores since 2016, and it has over 100,000 users. That’s considered a success on our side. The apps have been up and running perfectly, without changes. I’m confident that they’re being used as we speak by the banks’ clients.

How did Adonis Software perform from a project management standpoint?

We mainly worked remotely. We had Adonis Software come to our office once every 1–2 months, mainly when approaching a release or preparing new projects or sprints. We have offices in the same town.

Their resources joined the teams run by our project managers, and they fit in very well. Two of Adonis Software’s developers really became a part of the team — the only difference was that they were remote, and the rest of us were at the office. We’re really sorry to part with them at this point.

What did you find most impressive about them?

It’s their dedication. As an example, mobile apps are submitted for review before they’re published in the app stores. Even if the approval came at 11 o’clock at night, Adonis Software’s team would be there refreshing the page and checking if the approval came. They went a bit beyond their actual jobs, and a person must like their job in order to do that.

We also appreciated that the developers we got from Adonis Software stayed with us until the end of the project. They added more people when we needed them, but the core of the team stayed the same. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

We found them to be a bit expensive compared to other companies in their area, but that was okay, given the great job they did. We worked with Adonis Software for a long period, and we were happy with the results.

When we requested more people for the team, they recommended two developers that were way too junior for our needs. However, those were just proposals; we hired the resources we wanted at the end of the day, and we put together a very good team.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

The hiring company needs to understand that they are real people and need to be treated as actual employees, not outsiders. If the client does that, Adonis Software will deliver.

I am a digital account manager for Leo Burnett Romania, an advertising agency. I’m in charge of special digital projects for various clients.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The results exceeded our expectations. We hit the trending list on Google Play and the App Store within three days of launch. After one month, we've reached the top spot on the trending list on Google Play, we’ve seen 30,000 downloads, and we’ve earned the appreciation of our client. The final app had a few bugs, but they were solved within a day or two.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The workflow was very smooth. I saw from the beginning that they were trustworthy and they proved it through the end. They were very quick to respond at any time and solve any issues, even under deadline pressure.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The most impressive thing for me was their availability and openness to solving any problem at any time.

We previously worked on a different type of project and had a good experience with their team, so they were considered in the pitch for this project. We chose them based on those past experiences and the work they delivered, along with their portfolio on mobile apps.

After the initial pitch process, we had two updates on final specifications and functionalities for the app based on our initial plans and client's needs. Adonis Software helped improve the design and UI and better structure the flow for the app. They developed an app with chat capabilities, video upload, and a real-time connection with offline activities.

We had a project manager who was our main point of contact during the planning, development, testing and release stages of the project. We had meetings and contact with the developers on certain key functionalities that needed to be aligned between the agency and the client.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Our internal client gathered data and feedback from their customers and found that the app helped them raise awareness of their product. The overall usage of the app met expectations, but the chat functionality beat those expectations. Adonis Software quickly addressed any flaws in the initial version.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We had constant updates from the project manager, and we held frequent calls and meetings on the important milestones that we designated in the planning process. We mainly communicated by email, though they offered to use a different communication platform should we desire.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They’re quick on their feet and flexible about finding solutions to the most unusual of requests. They dedicate time and resources to research and find ways of staying within the proposed deadline, while also accommodating feedback and requests for changes from the client side.

Are there any areas for improvement?

There a few instances when communication was a bit too technical and required additional calls for us to better understand the meaning.

We organized a third-party pitch, asking well-known developers on the market to come back to us with costs and solutions for our idea. Adonis Software had the best costs and timing out of all of them.

Our agency did the design, and Adonis came in to support the mobile app development. We worked as a team, managed to deliver the project in time, and achieved good results.

From Adonis Software, we had the developers and the account manager to handle all of the needed technical details. We met frequently to align and set next steps.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The app became the third most popular app in Bucharest on the App Store and encouraged more people to volunteer. It generated about 21,000 volunteers and enrolled around 190 NGOs over the course of our campaign.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Adonis Software was very passionate about what they did and knew how to adapt to problems throughout the process. It was hectic to compile so much information into one platform, and this was a learning process for both sides. But, in the end, we managed to solve all obstacles and brought a great project to life.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They were eager to learn and knew how to adjust to new information and updates throughout the project.

Are there any areas for improvement?

At that time, their team was smaller, and they were just learning to collaborate with big brands. They needed to improve in terms of their processes and scheduling to meet higher demands. But a lot of time has passed since then, so they might have gained more experience on this front.

What challenge were you trying to address with Adonis Software?

We wanted to be able to track which restaurants our wines were in, so we needed a partner to develop an app that could accomplish that.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Adonis Software built an iOS and Android app, doing both the design and development. Our team was incredibly inexperienced with app dev, so they answered our questions and helped direct the project. Although the original scope of work didn’t include design, when we couldn’t find a partner to do it, they offered to provide the service.

Adonis Software worked with our database of clients, restaurants, and wines to determine which wines were at which locations. Users can just click on a wine and see where it’s being offered. Adonis Software also developed a feature that allows a user to click on a wine at a certain restaurant and see what food they offer that pairs well with it.

What is the team composition?

We worked with the CEO, an account manager, and some programmers.

How did you come to work with Adonis Software?

They reached out to us. When we decided we wanted to build this app, I remembered them. We went to a few other companies, but Adonis Software was the most prompt, so we hired them.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project lasted for four months, from summer to winter 2015.

This is the first app like it in our industry. It’s hard to make wineries modern, but the app has put us far ahead of our competitors.

They were punctual and always tried to schedule meetings face to face to optimize communication. We also communicated via phone and email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They always provided solutions to our problems, even if it wasn’t their responsibility. For example, they took over design when we couldn’t find a partner to help us.

Have specific requirements for what you want your app to accomplish, and they’ll achieve it.

I'm the co-founder and web developer of a free iOS app that quickly provides information about the nearest hospitals, health clinics, and pharmacies.

We contracted Adonis Software to design and develop the iOS application, which has a frontend interface that accesses data from our API.

What were your goals for this project?

Because the app is focused on emergencies, we wanted it to be as simple and usable as possible, with a clean design that displays results quickly.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We found Adonis Software on Freelancer.com. After comparing other application developers, we decided that they were the best candidate.

Describe the project in detail.

They were quick to respond, give us an estimate for the timeframe, and determine payment milestones. Once we completed the necessary legal paperwork, they quickly created a mockup of the app and a usable prototype through TestFlight. At that point, we submitted feedback about certain aspects and features.

In addition to storing information, the app also allows users to select their health insurance and automatically add the nurse hotline number. Furthermore, it stores contact information for doctors and other medical professionals separately from the phone's contact list.

What was the team composition?

They assigned a project manager right away as our point of contact. Although designers and programmers worked on the project, it was valuable to have a project manager who received our input and identified our goals.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We released the app quickly, and it received a lot of positive feedback and ratings. Our local airport even sponsored the app during the holiday season to promote safe travel.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Adonis Software was always quick to respond to our feedback and keep the project on track. We communicated through email but also had Skype meetings as necessary.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I'm impressed that they worked so quickly, yet created a product that is so responsive and reliable. They were receptive and flexible about adding a few last-minute features.

Are there any areas for improvement?

We made the right choice by using Adonis Software. Locating any areas for improvement is difficult. The entire process went so smoothly and quickly that I couldn't have hoped for anything better.

I’m the CTO of iRewind AG. We do video for various sports events like marathons and cycling competitions. We record footage and use metadata from the timing system to create personalized videos for every runner or participant. Most of our customers are large companies that organize the events.

Adonis Software developed native apps for iOS and Android using our designs. They developed the specs for the apps. They used an API to connect to our data on the backend. The apps used push notifications to engage the customer.

I knew the owner and I trusted them. We started with a smaller project. They did a good job on that and our engagement grew from there.

We measured the applications, but our business objectives have changed. Our customers have their own apps, so we’re no longer using the apps that Adonis Software developed for us. We weren’t able to achieve our business goal, but that has nothing to do with them.

The project was completed quickly and managed well. There wasn’t much management involved in these projects from their side. The fact that I have a technical background was helpful. I could quickly connect to the developer directly and explain to him exactly what I wanted and how to achieve it.

They were a fair provider of mobile development. We got what we expected. They have good developers that understand what you require.

The platform performed well in client testing, and fulfilled all of our expectations in terms of features and accessibility.

Their team met every milestone, and their quality of work was always high. They also collaborated well with the other vendors that were assigned to the project.

Their team met a complex set of requirements with the product that they delivered. They were flexible and open to change, which made for a smooth development process. They also completed the project under budget.

The goal was to translate an astrology software that was developed for Windows into an iOS app.

How did you select this vendor?

I had previous success with a Romanian company, and they suggested using Adonis for app development. 

Describe the project in detail. 

Adonis Software developed an iOS astrology app based on existing software. The project was divided into four milestones, which involved a deep understanding of planetary movement and data display. The biggest challenge was to display a horoscope on a small touch-sensitive screen so that we could show multilingual interpretations.

What was the team composition?

The initial part of the project was completed by two resources, though there were subsequent team changes as the project developed.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Adonis Software did the work extremely well and very rapidly considering the complexity of the project. We ran into some problems with third-party software for the atlas and coordinate functions, which delayed the launch, but this wasn’t their fault.

Currently, the app has earned a few thousand downloads. However, it hasn’t been an unqualified success. The app would benefit from a redesign and a more customer-friendly approach, which might have been a mistake on our side. If we end up changing the UI, we’ll still use Adonis Software. 

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs? 

The communication was excellent, and the feedback was perfect. I was surprised at how effective the programmers were compared with previous companies we’ve used. They could solve problems mostly by themselves.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Adonis Software delivered a beautiful app. They solved a complex functionality with extraordinary speed, and the design and presentation were exactly to our specifications.

Are there any areas for improvement?

The original programmer was brilliant; he really had a stroke of genius in mastering UI design. However, the subsequent programmer could focus on improving their design capabilities.

We needed help to develop a mobile application.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They’re using Java to work on an Android app. They did both the UX design and development. The app allows building residents to see how much electricity and water are consumed, and they can enter their water consumption. They can see their monthly billings and can pay them with a credit card. They can also communicate with the property’s administration team with a ticketing system. The app takes the data and sends it to our systems. The main data is on our servers. 

What is the team composition?

I work with a designer and a Java developer. The owner is also involved in communication.

How did you come to work with Adonis Software?

I found them through a Google search. I liked that they weren’t too small or too big. I saw their history of 7–10 years and felt that was sufficient experience, and their pricing seemed reasonable. It was a plus that they have an office close to mine. I met with them and chose to work with them.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent $25,000–$50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2019, and the work is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

It’s nice having an external company do the work for us so we didn’t have to take the time to learn new technologies. The product will bring in a lot of money when it’s finished. We intend to charge a monthly fee for access on the system. The return on investment should be in one year. We expect the number of users to grow. It’s been great.

How did Adonis Software perform from a project management standpoint?

We work in an agile methodology. I communicate directly with them via Skype or chat, and they’re responsive. We also met about five times in person. I don’t have any complaints.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m impressed that things are going well even though I’m not experienced as a manager. I’m happy with the developer even though we didn’t have a serious interview before we chose him. We communicate well and he understands what I want. He’s a good coder.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I can't name anything specific.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Know what you want. It’s important to have good technical knowledge in order to be able to have informed discussions with the team.
