I’m one of the co-founders of LITTLEWINE. We’re building a knowledge and collaboration platform for the wine world, made up of two products that work together. Winemakers use our portal to upload, share, and manage information about their wines. Wine professionals and F&B teams use our app to access that information and work with it: managing collections, sharing team notes, and learning about wine in an immersive way, one wine at a time.

What specific goals or objectives did you hire DreamLabs to accomplish for your business?

We needed both sides of our platform to work seamlessly, and work together. The app for wine professionals was still just an idea. The winemaker portal already existed in an early version. We needed someone to turn the app into a real product, connect it to what winemakers were sharing, and get it in front of users quickly so we could learn from them.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

DreamLabs started with our app for wine professionals. They picked the fastest route to market at the time, which was FlutterFlow, and took it from idea to live. It works on mobile and on desktop, so our users can use it wherever they are. Our winemaker portal was built separately on Bubble, which held its backend and data structure. Once DreamLabs had proven themselves on the app, we moved the portal over to them as well. Early on, FlutterFlow and Bubble made sense because we were still testing a lot. As we grew and went live, DreamLabs moved us onto a fully custom build the moment that became the faster option, with AI-supported ways of working built into the process. They did all of this without ever putting the business on hold. The trickiest part was taking over a platform they hadn’t built and moving its backend and data off Bubble and onto our own platform. DreamLabs handled it, along with reworking our data structure along the way. Day to day, their work covers release scoping, tech stack advice, feature building, and QA.

What is the team composition?

Our main contact is John, and he’s the person we work with most day to day. In the early days, a few more people from DreamLabs were involved too, for example for QA rounds. Overall, we’ve worked with somewhere between two and five people from their team.

How did you come to work with DreamLabs?

Honestly, we found them through a good old online search, plus Clutch. Before deciding, we compared them with about eight other service providers. DreamLabs stood out for their excellent ratings and professional website, and after an intro call with them, the choice felt easy.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2024, and we’re still going strong.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our app went from an idea to a live product with real users. The feedback has been really positive, and the thing people mention most is how intuitive it is and how easy it is to find their way around. Both of our products now run on a custom platform built for where we are today.

How did DreamLabs perform from a project management standpoint?

We meet over video calls and stay aligned day to day through Slack, Notion, and email, scoping our work release by release. They deliver on time in 99% of cases, and when there is a delay, there’s always a good reason and they tell us early. What I’ve valued most is how they handle change. We went from a testing phase on FlutterFlow and Bubble to a fully custom setup, and that shift came with a lot of changing priorities. DreamLabs adjusted with us at every step and kept things moving.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They think like a partner, not a contractor. They don’t just build what we ask for. They tell us when there’s a better way and when it’s time to change course, like the move to a custom build. They’re also true experts who never make you feel lost. As someone who isn’t a developer, I really value that they explain things in a way I can follow, and they’re always happy to walk me through something again. When something breaks, they’re on it right away.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Honestly, I can’t think of anything. If you’re early and still figuring things out, DreamLabs will help you find the fastest way to get started and tell you honestly when it’s time to grow out of it. That’s exactly what they did for us.

The goal was to build an MVP/proof of concept mobile app for beauty influencers and beauty product users. Tomas and John really worked to understand the business case, end users, and what I was trying to accomplish. The integrity of this company was clear when they take time to decide whether they were able to technically deliver on my ask using low-code tools.

I felt lucky to have them come back to me with a full scope on how they could build what I had envisioned. They really wear multiple hats and do it well. From concept to launch, DreamLabs acted as not only the developer, but also a product manager, overseeing every detail from concept development to launch (feature prioritization, user interviews, optimizing user experience, etc).

As a product manager myself, I really appreciated their process driven approach to building an MVP. I have worked with other developers in the past, that make no effort to always have in mind the user and business case. As an entrepreneur, I got excited about adding more features, but they did an outstanding job of keeping me and the project focused on sticking to features that count.

Other developers welcome the opportunity for scope expansion and don’t make the effort to truly understand the problem and DreamLabs was the complete opposite. I am continuing my relationship with them to have them support my app and in the future, develop the app further.

We were able to build a SOLID mobile app that will be used as a minimal viable product to build off of in the future (with minimal scope creep and no hidden costs!)

We hit almost all milestones on time. Any technical setbacks were not in their hands and they did a great job in communicating any issues and re-setting expectations if needed. We were able to communicate via Slack outside our weekly virtual calls so any questions or concerns were addressed real-time.

These guys immerse themselves in the problem statement and really dive in with you to determine the best way to solve the problem using low-code. Use of the app is making a meaningful impact on a critical issue facing this country: lack of licensed child care in poor comunities. The app is being used by economically marginalized entrepreneurs to efficiently get a child care license and learn the essentials of running a home daycare business.

On top of that, they operate with integrity and transparency. Often times, dealing with developers can feel shady, as a result of confusion and a lack of understanding of the development process. However, DreamLabs is always straightforward and honest about the work they do and the associated cost to do it. I have never felt like I was being taken advantage of. Working with app developers can often times be confusing. Not with DreamLabs.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

There are a number of things. First, their approach to project management and communication are outstanding. I always understood where we were in the project process, they were always accessible when questions did arise, and they brought an important sense of urgency regarding project completion. Secondly, they were careful to understand what I was envisioning and how to make it come to reality. Sometimes this can be incredibly frustrating when working with tech folks, particularly as someone without a tech background. Finally, they were always friendly and collegial. I felt they believed in what I was trying to do and were very patient with my own lack of tech expertise.  I found DreamLabs online and felt they were the missing piece for moving my project forward.

I do not have much to suggest. Maybe a clearer path in how to continue to work with them moving forward because I do plan to continue.
What advice do you have for clients with similar needs to yours?
Working with a partner as structured and experienced as DreamLabs took a lot of the guess work out and made the process a lot less stressful.
