Merixstudio was responsible for developing a brand-new mobile app for both Android and iOS, using the cross-platform Flutter framework. We had an old app and wanted to rebuild it from scratch on a new tech stack. Merixstudio helped us from the initial stages through the release of the first version. Moreover, we still work with them regularly, implementing new features and providing necessary updates. 
The app included features such as product categories and listings, purchase process, checkout, and payments, as well as reviews. It is essentially a fully-fledged e-commerce app mirroring our existing web shop.

More than 3x higher % of sales coming from the mobile app than before the change.

Merixstudio has provided us with backend and frontend development, architectural guidance, and security guidance. We've built a software system that supports system maintenance strategies. We take oil samples from machines and have laboratories around the world testing these. Based on that, the fluid care portal becomes an asset management tool that monitors the maintenance activities.

We work with two backend developers, one frontend developer, one QA specialist, one product manager, and one designer from Merixstudio. We have an internal backend developer who acts as the tech lead on our side.

I wasn't the one who found Merixstudio. We got in contact with them and had an initial meeting where they understood the concept of what we were doing very well.

We started working together in June 2024, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We have a lot fewer bugs within the software than before. We have a structured QA process now, and our security standard is a lot higher now because we went through a longer security process. The architecture of the software is a lot better now as well. In general, there have been a lot of improvements.

Merixstudio has met our budget. We use Jira and GitHub for project management. We communicate via Google Meet and Slack.

The team spirit and ability to meet our needs.

There are always small things here and there, but in general, everything has been really nice. We can’t expect more from them than we have right now.

Merixstudio provides custom software design and development services. The team is helping us replace an in-house piece of software that is already functioning. We’re utilizing Merixstudio to create a new homegrown software to replace the older legacy systems we’ve leveraged for a while

Merixstudio follows the standard Agile development process. We typically have a large scoping session at the beginning of the year, where we brainstorm. Then, we have mini breakouts, where we go more in-depth on the specific functions we’ll implement. We usually meet for design reviews once a week or biweekly to look at the ideas we’ve brainstormed and see how they manifest into the designs. The design review process is where we give feedback before implementing those designs.

Merixstudio also does QA on our side and theirs before we launch some features with real users. The key technologies Merixstudio uses include Python, React, MongoDB, and AWS. They’re also leveraging Kafka for data synchronization and other use cases.

What is the team composition?

The team consists of backend developers, frontend developers, UI/UX designers, project managers, Scrum masters, and software architects. The team expands and contracts depending on what we need. On average, we have 12–14 teammates working for us simultaneously.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Merixstudio delivers high-quality work. Counting additional revenue is hard because it’s not a new app or business source. However, for one of our scoring processes, particularly for our clinical exam, where we were doing a lot of manual, human error-prone processes to process scores for our candidates, we’ve cut staff time by almost 60%. 

How did Merixstudio perform from a project management standpoint?

The team has a strong set of staff members who oversee the project and ensure it meets the requirements. The team uses Jira and Confluence, and they give us access to those boards so we can have complete transparency into what they’re doing. We also use Slack to message and share documents. We have weekly calls with the project manager to discuss any items coming up, and we also have design reviews with the UI/UX team. In addition, we have sprint reviews with the whole team to learn about the new features being deployed.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Merixstudio is super comfortable pushing back whenever the quality of work is threatened by scope or timeline. Their team focuses more on quality than just saying yes to every request.

I can’t think of anything they can improve on.

I recommend ensuring you have staff on the client side to track quality, be clear on your requirements, and test to make sure that the deployments are meeting your needs. I think that's super important because there can always be some gray area in requirements.

Subsequent to the successful relaunch, Merixstudio supported additional feature design and development with a focus on frontend development. Their UI/UX designers worked out new concepts for several customer facing features, and the frontend development team built out these features, while taking into account ongoing maintenance of the codebase.

Biocore is a biomechanics and engineering company that performs research and consulting services for professional sports leagues. Our work is based around injury reduction using analysis, machine learning, AI, computational modeling, and testing of safety equipment for professional sports.

What challenge were you trying to address?
We originally engaged with Merixstudio to work with our instrumented mouthguard team to create a software for our in-house researchers and facilitate their review process. After releasing the software, it cut the amount of time for our researchers to review data by 5x. 

We then engaged them on another software around a hardware product called the BEAST (Biocore Extreme Athlete Surface Tester) that is used in professional football to test stadium surfaces/pitches to ensure they are optimized for safety and performance. That project has been ongoing for about 2 years now and continues to evolve and grow as we have been able to add more value to our client by expanding the scope of the original software project. 

One of the big challenges with the BEAST project was based around how to visualize the data coming off of the hardware system. Merixstudio helped us develop both 2D and 3D visualizations of the sports fields to assist field managers in understanding the data and how it relates to their field surfaces. 

Additionally, the software has been expanded to evolve what is currently a very manual and cumbersome process of field certification to one that is much easier to manage where data can be entered into the software on a tablet while measurements are taken on the field.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement and team dynamic?
Merixstudio has been involved in the UI/UX, design and front-end software development of all of our projects with them. The personnel from all the teams we've worked with have been incredible. The teams we work with have evolved over time due to the nature of the projects, at times adding more personnel as we accelerate development or having to replace team members as their team members have been promoted for doing great work.

Our experience with all of them has been exceptional. Merixstudio has always provided us with great talent in designers and software developers. They've truly been great collaborators in all we've done with them.
What's the status of this engagement?
This engagement is ongoing and will most likely last through March of 2025 if not beyond.

How did your relationship with Merixstudio evolve?
We've now been working with Merixstudio on three different projects. Their outstanding work with our projects has allowed us to introduce them to one of our clients who is now working with them directly on other projects based on what they saw of the projects Merixstudio did for us.
In what ways can Merixstudio improve?
I've worked with a number of different software agencies in my 25 years in the industry including a number of those that are remote/overseas. I've never had a better experience than I have in working with Merixstudio either domestically or with another offshore/remote company.

They've provided a huge value to our company as well as our clients in every project we've brought to them. It's why we continue to do business with them. I can't think of a single area that I would say they can improve in regarding how we work together.
What advice do you have for clients with similar needs to yours?
When we went through our RFP process, we looked at quite a few domestic options for this work, a large multi-national company, and Merixstudio. Merixstudio won the contest hands-down, not only for their design and UX expertise but the fact that we could iterate 2-3 more times with them as we could with the other companies we looked at. 

As software is an iterative process and you never get everything perfectly right, that ability to iterate multiple times for lower cost has been instrumental in allowing us to make the progress we have on our projects. They've proven themselves to be very flexible in their work with us. At times, things shift very quickly and they've always been willing to work with us as our projects have changed and evolved. Merixstudio is an incredible team to work with and will help your product succeed.

We have a product that we are currently in the process of researching and developing. In this case, it is an instrumented mouthguard that will be used by professional and collegiate football players. We hired Merixstudio to build a software that could enable our research team to pull and view data from multiple data streams — or those that are coming from the instrumented mouthguards — and to validate the information we are discovering. Our goal is to detect and determine the impacts on players using that validated data.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Merixstudio started by building the frontend of the software from scratch. One of our requirements was that it be a React-based application, so their team used Next.js. We provided them with some rough wireframes and they went into a design process to improve upon it for usability and a better overall look and feel.

We worked with about 5–6 people. There was a UI/UX lead, a visual designer, a project manager, two developers, and a QA specialist. 

How did you come to work with Merixstudio?

I had worked with Merixstudio years ago for a website and software development project. This was for the company that I owned. At that time, I found them through a Google search and started working wi them. I had such a great experience with their team that I decided to include them in our RFP process for this project. 

Clutch was a big driver in that undertaking since we looked into the testimonies of former clients. That, combined with my personal experience with Merixstudio, cemented our decision.

What is the status of this engagement?

We formally began working together in April 2021, and the work was completed last August 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

In the past, our research team had to undergo a very difficult manual process of pulling and validating data. Thanks to Merixstudio’s involvement, we now have a full-fledged software that only takes 10–15 minutes to complete what was once an hours-long task. It was hugely valuable to our researchers. Back then, we would also need to wait until the end of the season, but now, we can look into the data every week. 

How did Merixstudio perform from a project management standpoint?

Merixstudio was great across the board. Working with them was such a phenomenal experience, which is why we’ve hired them again to do two more projects. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

What stood out about Merixstudio in this engagement, as in the last, was the level of quality that we got from their design team. Their output is at a level far above what we would’ve received from the other companies that we considered and worked with. It also stood out how they did everything at an incredibly lower price point. It allowed us to iterate more times to make the software better. We got great value for our investment.

A lot of the areas we initially struggled with were really due to us and not Merixstudio. Off the top of my head, I only have good things to say about their team.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

What impressed me the most: with DevOps was their ability to quickly assess and lay out a plan for a path forward. With development, it was their ability to not work as a siloed team but to be proactive at reading app reviews and identifying gaps in user flows.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Merixstudio could have done differently?

The engagement went pretty well. The only issues were on our side with management changes, and this caused priorities to change as well.
