5:00 Films helped us to produce a roughly 5-min video introducing the members of our fellowship cohort. We wanted the video to include brief interview clips with each fellow as well as some photos and videos of them and their organizations at work. They helped us to design the interview questions and then worked directly with fellows to coordinate recording time slots and shipping of recording kits. During the recording calls, the 5:00 FIlms team took the lead on providing feedback and ensuring we got high-quality recordings. They then produced a couple iterations of the video for us based on cycles of feedback and input and were able to implement our feedback in an effective way.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The video they produced for us is the ultimate outcome– we've very pleased with how it turned out! Along the way we had a few check-ins to assess progress and provide feedback of drafts of the video, which also felt very efficient and effective. They also did a great job interacting with our fellows during recording sessions– respectful, helpful, and friendly.

They were always on time! The project ended up taking longer than we expected due to some scheduling challenges with the individuals who needed to record, and due to delays collecting and consolidating feedback on our end, but the 5:00 Films team was very patient and receptive and willing to make adjustments however needed to ensure we got everything done but didn't feel rushed.

Develop 12 social-first videos featuring grantees of the Kaiser Permanente Center for Gun Violence Research and Education for use in a campaign designed to elevate grantee voices and highlight grantee work and its impact while increasing awareness of the KP Center and its impactful investments. Deliverables included creative consultation, pre-production, production, and post-production.

Leveraging footage from the previously mentioned project, develop 12 social-first videos and 1 compliation video featuring experts discussing in their own words why gun violence is a public health issue, as part of an effort to deepen understanding of gun violence, its causes, its impacts, and its solutions. Deliverables included pre-production and post-production, including motion graphics.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

• Our leads for the project as well as executives loved the videos.
• Partners, including grantees and executives from Kaiser Permanente, were very pleased with the videos.
• The first campaign (summer video campaign) resulted in 14.1 milllion impressions, more than 3.1 million video views, and more than 15,000 likes/comments/shares. Organic reach and paid promotion contributed to these results, but they would not have been possible without the very high quality, moving videos produced by 5:00 Films.
• The fall video campaign is still in progress but is performing well.
• The videos are versatile and can be used in a variety of other ways post-social campaign.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We provided 5:00 Films & Media with a lot of the background on our organization, our overall goals, and as many details as possible so they understood what we were looking for. We spent a lot of time laying the groundwork for what we wanted, and from there, they gave us their input on where they thought we should go from a creative direction. 

We’ve hired 5:00 Films & Media to create a few videos for us. We recently became our own independent nonprofit organization and wanted to make a thank you video for our founders. This was the first film we had them develop, and it was shown at a reunion. 5:00 Films & Media interviewed staff members, fellows, and founders to create this film, then put everything together in a 5–6 minute video. 

The second video that we’re making is for fundraising purposes. This video will be 2–3 minutes and utilize the previous interviews 5:00 Films & Media conducted for a different purpose. We will send this video to donors to try and help raise money for some of our programs. We are in the final editing stages of this film, and it is almost complete. 

Most of the interviews have been conducted remotely, so 5:00 Films & Media has sent each interviewee a video kit and clear instructions on how to use it. With these kits, their team could control the sound and audio directly, and they gave instructions on the best way to capture everything and set up the camera.

We’re in contact with about four people from 5:00 Films & Media. This includes the CEO, a senior creative, a creative director, and a producer.

We found them online; we were researching companies in our area and sent out about 6–7 RFPs. 5:00 Films & Media seemed to fit best with what we were looking for, so we decided to move forward with them.

We started working together in June 2023, and the engagement is ongoing.

Their team did a wonderful job capturing what we wanted, even though we were relatively new to the video production process and weren’t sure what we were looking for. 5:00 Films & Media has exceeded our expectations, and everything is better than we could have imagined. We’re very happy with their creative choices; their final products have been outstanding.

We had a very tight timeline for the first video, and they were able to meet that. They were consistently on top of everything to ensure the video was ready. 5:00 Films & Media has stayed on budget and is very transparent about everything. If there is anything that wasn’t initially quoted, they are excellent at letting us know and taking us through that process. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

The whole team is fantastic to work with; they are responsive, flexible, and as accommodating as possible. We’ve also been impressed with their ability to ask great clarifying questions to understand what we’re looking for. This skill has allowed them to create exactly what we've envisioned.

We’ve also been highly impressed with their willingness to accommodate our schedules and their patience with changing needs. They go above and beyond to ensure that everything gets done. The 5:00 Films & Media team has been kind and extremely pleasant to work with.

The only thing I can potentially think of would be for them to more clearly lay out the timelines of when things will be completed. This would help us know when we need to provide feedback on our side.

Ensure you’ve thought through what you want out of the video, even if that’s just in basic terms. Give them very specific feedback as well because that helps them make adjustments.

We started with a discovery meeting. They lead a collaborative process that incorporated our team’s ideas with theirs at every step of the way. This resulted in a fantastic 2-minute video that serves as the face of our org.

We worked with a project manager who guided the process. Our team would provide feedback and they would work with their team to address the changes. Swift, thorough, and clear at every step.

I’m the communications manager at a renewable energy national nonprofit that works to accelerate the transition to a renewable energy economy. I work in the communications department, where I handle media relations, social media writing, and other external integrations.

What challenge were you trying to address with 5:00 Films & Media?

We hired 5:00 Films & Media to produce a video for the celebration of our 20th anniversary.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

In the beginning, we figured out what we needed for the project, including archival footage from the last 20 years of our organization. We then went to 5:00 Films & Media’s office and did an in-person shoot with our CEO. As we finished all the footage we were going to use, we started to map out what the final video would look like and what its narrative arc would be. 

Our teams then finished the first draft. From there, we went through a vigorous editing process as we collected information from the many members of the team and made sure that everyone was happy with the final product. They did some animation and limited graphics as they worked with our huge library of archival footage.

What is the team composition?

We worked with their founder on a couple of occasions, but our primary contact was Rob (Video Producer).

How did you come to work with 5:00 Films & Media?

We had an RFP process where we spoke with a number of firms. We conducted kickoff meetings to make sure we were aligned with them in terms of creative vision. Our team conducted a lot of remote interviews, so we talked through the most cost-effective and high-quality options for those interviews. 

Meanwhile, we chose 5:00 Films & Media because they were in our locality, and they specialized in working with nonprofits and trade associations. We thought that they’d be a good fit for our project and that they’d be familiar with working with an organization like ours. We were most impressed by these things, so we hired them. 

What is the status of this engagement?

Our engagement lasted from November 2021–March 2022.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The video first debuted at our 20th-anniversary gala event, and we then used it in other places such as our website and social media accounts. It received highly positive feedback from our viewers, CEO, staff, and directors — all of our main stakeholders were truly happy with the final product.

How did 5:00 Films & Media perform from a project management standpoint?

5:00 Films & Media’s project management was fantastic; they were on the ball all the time. This was a huge project for us; there were times when we were extremely busy and didn’t have the time to keep all details in our heads. However, their team was always on top of everything. As a result, we didn’t have to worry too much about project management. To communicate, we typically use emails, Zoom, texts, and phone calls.

Our organization organized our annual literary festival, and we needed to declare the winners through an announcement video. 5:00 Films & Media produced this seven-minute video for our prize recipients, which featured more information about the prizes they received, including the founders of each prize. Apart from this main video, they also generated eight four-minute profile videos and another one-minute long video for our Instagram page.

We’re currently working with their team on another project, a virtual festival that will run from September to November. We’ve particularly tasked 5:00 Films & Media with producing nine 30–40-minute videos, which we will feature at the said festival.

The Prize for Cities highlights transformative projects that have made a demonstrable impact on people's lives in cities around the world. The 2020-2021 theme was "inclusive cities for a changing climate." 5:00 Films was hired to profile the 5 finalists for this cycle in documentary style, which each had a unique story to tell of transformative change in action. They also produced nearly all the content for our virtual awards ceremony, which featured all the finalist projects as well as the jury, previous winners and special guests.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We were very impressed with 5:00 Films' experience shooting remotely in complex situations and also supporting marque virtual events, which we knew would be a big challenge because of COVID.

Our videos have already been viewed more than the previous cycle's and the virtual event was a tremendous success, with a large audience, lots of engagement and high-profile praise from important stakeholders.
