I'm a product manager of an environmentally focused think tank. We create open source products for serving geospatial data and analysis.

We developed a mobile + web application with another firm and had stability issues. 3SC helped us with a comprehensive code review to triage the issues and implement fixes. Since then, we've worked with them to build new features to collect data in a field environment.

We had a formal procurement/RFP process, which 3SC participated in and emerged as the most qualified.

Our mobile app is built with React Native and our web app is built with React and Redux. 3SC has quality engineers to handle both apps.

Project management is very much waterfall. Scope, timelines, and budget are nailed down from the beginning and it's a tad difficult to make changes mid-stream. 3 SIDED CUBE is always highly communicative and delivers things when they say they will.

3SC's preparation and presentation is top notch and they deliver quality products. Their testing team and process is great and ensures that production apps has as few issues as possible.

Having more avenues to adjust the plan mid-stream when requirements (inevitably) change.

What challenge were you trying to address with 3 SIDED CUBE?

We wanted to develop an app that could appeal to young people to engage with climate change and understand what they could do to help combat it.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

3 SIDED CUBE is designing and developing an Android and iOS mobile app for us from scratch. We just finished the design phase, and now we’re about to present a prototype they created for an investment funding round and then go to the development stage.

To jumpstart the process, we provided them with a document where we explained our needs and requirements, and 3 SIDED CUBE’s team further engaged with the young people that are part of the project through workshop sessions to understand clearly what we were looking for.

Regarding functionalities, the app is a gamification tribal feel of building forests to earn points and go up on a leaderboard while creating consciousness of climate change by encouraging users through the game to walk to school rather than taking the car or using a reusable bottle rather than a plastic bottle.

I’ve worked with around four members of their team, including their commercial manager and project manager.

We did a competitive tender exercise via a government framework, and 3 SIDED CUBE was the winning bid of that process.

Project management is great; they use Basecamp as the main tool to manage everything and communicate regularly, which has been successful. Their team also commits to the timelines we agree upon and are responsive to our inquiries.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re a passionate, enthusiastic, and young team.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could be more communicative with the upper management teams of their clients. They’re great with regular daily progress updates, but more checkpoint updates might help because not everyone on our team can see the progress that 3 SIDED CUBE makes.

I’m the CEO and founder of My Planet Alliance, a small nonprofit startup that tries to increase the general public’s ability to help with climate change and environmental protection.

What challenge were you trying to address with 3 SIDED CUBE?

We needed help with market research. We want to build a mobile app that would essentially be a marketplace around environment and climate projects.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

3 SIDED CUBE just finished the user journey and user market survey so we could have a budget and raise money to create the app, which we’ll develop with them.

They were in charge of the UX/UI design. We had some earlier wireframes, but they didn’t use them; they started from scratch.

What is the team composition?

About 6–8 people were in the team, including designers and a project manager.

How did you come to work with 3 SIDED CUBE?

We had an outrageously expensive previous experience — they weren’t responsive and didn’t provide us with the needed information. We went back to the drawing board and looked online at various reviews and ratings of app development and UX companies. We liked 3 SIDED CUBE’s reviews and the fact that their coders were good. They were motivated to do the right thing.

We contacted them and had a great experience with Sophia (Co-Founder). She addressed many of our concerns in the previous experience, so we decided to go with them.

How much have you invested in them?

We spent bout $50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with them from February–July 2022.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They did an excellent user market survey and got much more input than we’d been able to. They distilled that user market survey to demonstrate that there’s a market for the app.

They surveyed 100 people; they were great at answering technical questions. Moreover, their project managers, UX designers, and tech people were well integrated, so everybody understood what was happening at both ends. Overall, they were supportive regarding our questions and interacting with us. We’re excited to find more money and keep working with them.

How did 3 SIDED CUBE perform from a project management standpoint?

They were excellent. In the beginning, they set the whole thing out on day one. They scoped it out from February to July and hit every deadline. We even threw them a few curveballs at the last minute, but they still hit all of them.

We used email and Basecamp. We could see everything they were doing and message them there. They had the Gantt chart all laid out for our review; everything was up so we could figure out when we needed to get our stuff to them.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We’ve worked with a few organizations, and 3 SIDED CUBE stood out from technical, design, and project management standpoints. All their team collaborated each week; we weren’t just dealing with a project manager without knowing who was behind the scenes. They didn’t relay questions; everyone was on the calls. We met them, and they were incredibly responsive.

Overall, they wanted to do a good job. 3 SIDED CUBE cared about the project. We always received answers; it was a great experience. With other companies, we didn’t have that vertical access all the time. Meanwhile, we had full access to 3 SIDED CUBE’s team anytime we wanted. They were all engaged together, so we had confidence that their work would make sense from every perspective and we could iron out everything.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Honestly, I don’t have any suggestions. We were pleased across the board with the experience. They were good listeners and a dedicated team. When we asked questions or tried to pivot, they’d figure out what we really needed and how to design it. Overall, they were super responsive and friendly and wanted to give us the best product we could get.

Be open about everything and include them as much as possible in your process because they have great expertise. They can help you get to a better product than you can think of on your own.

I am the Marketing Manager at a children's charity - the Child Brain Injury trust. Supporting children with acquired brain injuries and their family.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire 3 SIDED CUBE, and what were your goals?

We wanted to develop a mobile app for families affected by childhood head injury, concussion, and brain injury. We know that there are many parents that take their children to A&E with a head injury, they then go home and have no support. Our goal was to provide a mobile platform for these families to access support and advice, directly at their fingertips. Our goal is not capture more families going through A&E who we would normally miss.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We looked online and created a shortlist to speak to. After speaking to 3-sided-cube we realised they just got it, they understood the charity and what we wanted to achieve. We felt that our values were well aligned, and they showed a huge passion to get this off the ground for us.

We had some initial meetings both internally and with 3-sided-cube to discuss our key objectives and goals for the mobile app. We formed a team to work on the project using members of our team from different departments. We also reached out to families and professionals to be involved in certain stages throughout the app development. We provided 3-sided-cube with our main ideas around the app, who the app was aimed at and the information we wanted them to get out of it.

They went away and put together wireflows for us to look at. After minor tweaking we agreed we were happy to proceed. 3-sided-cube developed the app and flows. As a charity we then entered the content on the app article pages and added any additional images that were needed. 3-sided-cube took all our feedback on board throughout this process to ensure that we were achieving what we wanted to through the app.

We then had a testing period – the testing was great and there were very few things that needed adjusting. 3-sided-cube submitted the app on both IOS and Android – these were submitted to the App Store and Google Play Store in early 2021. Before we launched we went through the app together, testing it. It was then launched In April 2021.

We are now in round 2 of developments to the app. We had a meeting with 3-sided-cube to discuss how we wanted to develop the app further. The created an Immersion Session and Workshop day for our team, in which we attended virtually. This allowed us to really think about what we wanted to achieve in the next stage of development.

The developers then took this information away and created some amazing wireflows which we were really happy with. They are currently in the process of making some minor tweaks…

We were assigned a project manager within the team at 3-sided-cube, but we were also able to attend regular calls with the some of the developers, IOS and Android team.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Since the App was launched on the 19th April 2021, we have seen 947 new users. Existing families that we support at the charity have commented on how they wish the app was around when their child first sustained their brain injury, as they felt the app was so useful. 355 parents of children with a head injury have accessed the questions on the app.

The project managers have changed over the development but we've always felt that their communication has been good and easy. We have had regular meetings every 3 weeks so we can meet up virtually to discuss any concerns we may have. 3-sided-cube introduced us to a tool called BaseCamp. We have used to this to have conversations with their team and provide feedback. We have found this tool useful.

3-sided-cube have always delivered the project on time. In fact, they work at a very fast pace which is great for the project delivery. They understand that we cannot work at the same pace when our input is needed, so they have been very good at allowing us more time to provide feedback and discuss things.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their attention to details is amazing, and their ability to really get on board with our concept. As a charity our values and the families we support are the key importance for us, 3-sided-cube just understood this for the get go. They wanted to understand our charity and who the app users would be so they could ensure that users got the most out of this as possible. They have understood that they need to be patient with us, we are a small team and have limited resource to delivery big projects, so they understand things may take us a bit longer.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

In the initial stages we probably would have liked more time to assess the app and its features before launch. But as this is all very knew to the charity, we didn't know that at the time.
