BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the founder, executive producer, and creative director of a company called Beard Boy Productions. We write and produce all kinds of video content.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Wicked Liquid FX?

We had a client that hired us to create a video for a medical device, and we needed a way to show this device moving through the human body. Since it was impossible to shoot, we decided to use 3D animation. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

First, we sat down with the Wicked Liquid FX team to figure out how to accomplish our goal. We decided to depict the medical device being used on a translucent human body with a realistic heart model. They presented some of their 3D stock models, which the team then adjusted according to our preferences. Alongside our client, we decided on the color scheme, texture, reflectiveness, skinning, lighting, and so on.

Afterward, the team developed a computer-aided design (CAD) in 3D and a simple animation that depicted how the medical device moves through the body. We then presented the 3D human model, the CAD, and the animation. It was an iterative process, but once everything was approved, the team put all the elements together and delivered the finished animation. Our internal team then handled the production of the final video, which featured Wicked Liquid FX’s work.

What is the team composition?

My primary contact was Michael (Creative Director). In addition, two other animators worked on the project, one of whom focused on animating the body and another who handled the animation of the device.

How did you come to work with Wicked Liquid FX?

They were a local company. We worked with them on another project in the early 2000s and stayed in touch with each other.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about $50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The animation was finished quickly, but we had to go through a lengthy approval and compliance process.  

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

They delivered a high-quality 3D animation that we were pretty happy with. Our client was also satisfied with the animation — the device established them as a pioneer in the cardiovascular field, and the video was a big part of that.

How did Wicked Liquid FX perform from a project management standpoint?

The project went well, and I didn’t have any problems. Mike was very willing to adjust to any time differences our client had. I was also able to work directly with him, which was great. He was brilliant and turned our vision into reality.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Out of all the vendors we worked with, Wicked Liquid FX produced the best 3D animations. Furthermore, the value for money they provided was excellent. They’re the most reasonably priced vendor I’ve encountered in their industry. Additionally, I was impressed with their extensive experience in medical animations.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could’ve been more organized. However, it wasn’t a significant issue.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

If you have a similar project, I highly recommend the Wicked Liquid FX team. You won’t find any other vendor that provides such great value.
