BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I'm co-founder and COO of Weather Factory, an indie microstudio making niche, successful narrative games.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire We Scale Startups?

We want to grow our audience, but aren't savvy when it comes to data-driven advertising and marketing. We didn't feel confident putting significant budget behind marketing campaigns that weren't based on evidence and research, so we needed an expert to come in an test out a number of different approaches to see what worked best.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We found WeScaleStartups through a marketing pitch company called Traktion. WeScaleStartups responded thoughtfully to our initial pitch and we decided to go ahead.

Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.

We focused on the major social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc) and ran small targeted campaigns to find our audience and work out what messaging and imagery resonated best with them. Once complete, we'll then put larger budgets behind our best-performing campaigns on our best-performing platforms to maximise player conversion on our game's Steam page.

How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

We worked with one main individual, supported by one or two assistants. The main individual was the founder of the company.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Not yet! The project is still ongoing.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We found working with WeScaleStartups very easy, bringing them into our company Slack and setting up weekly Google Hangout meetings to briefly touch base for updates.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They are really responsive to your specific needs. They don't put you on a conveyor belt: they clearly think intelligently about the problem and come up with custom solutions for you. They also evidently have a strong data-driven background, which is great.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

We're very happy with their work, but perhaps having a master plan and timeline would be particularly helpful when working in the ongoing way we have - so you can respond to new things freely, without getting lost on the overarching aims of the project. But that's a very small bonus!
