Major Historical Milestones
In 1940, Charles Himes, Sr. formed our company in 1940 with a single truck. Much has changed since our founding in terms of technology and innovation, but the values of family stewardship have remained the same.
In 1966, the Himes family founded Himco Waste-Away Service, Inc., with Himco functioning on the commercial side of a blossoming waste hauling business, later offering commercial packer services to further expand the commercial lines of business.
In 1972, Himco began offering industrial roll-off services that catapulted the company as commercial waste hauler, with rapid expansion into new local and regional industrial/manufacturing markets.
In 1974, Waste-Away founded RecyclingWorks, Inc., which over the next 50 years became the premier recycling collection plant in Northern Indiana for environmentally responsible waste processing.
In 1990, the company continued its growth with a dramatic expansion of its customer support division to increase the breadth and depth of local and regional support services now locally housed in our Elkhart call center with 15+ dedicated customer support representatives.
In 2006, advanced GPS-monitoring systems into fleet operations to make on-the-fly changes to routes for drivers navigate day-to-day changes.
Recent Developments
