Autonomous Driving and AI Tower Experience for Intel's CES 2018 immersive Mega Experience.
Tool of NA Directors Aramique Krauthamer and Jeff Crouse asked VolvoxLabs to provide the technical direction, 360 projection mapping, and fabrication of their Autonomous Driving - AD and Artificial Intelligence -AI Tower Experience at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018.
The AD Experience:
Through projection mapping and haptic seat effects, visitors were placed in an immersive ride through the eyes of an autonomous vehicle. The demo had seating for up to 9 guests and was designed to feel like a car.
Three Christie projectors were projected onto translucent projection film that was stretched onto a car-inspired frame. We used TouchDesigner for mapping and feeding in haptic elements and the immersive 5.1 soundtrack.
The seats in the car were fabricated with haptic devices using ButtKicker speakers and Subpacs. Inside the car, VolvoxLabs designed, fabricated, and programmed effects to give visitors a multi-sensory ride. As the animation played the seats vibrated, so the audience could feel the car motor and the ground underneath them rumble.
The AI Experience:
We also built an 11ft tall large cylindrical tower structure for Intel's Smarter Worlds. The tower structure represented the vast data housed and scanned by AI in the cloud. The tower was equipped with several markers. When paired with an AR app-enabled tablet it allowed visitors to immerse themselves in an AI-powered journey. The goal was to take users on a journey that explains how much can be done with AI technology.

Volvox Labs was invited by creative agency Leviathan to engineer the interactive system for the Nike Test Stride exclusive event for media and VIPs in Shanghai, China. Interactive Engineering of NIKE Obstacle Course. The goal was to create an interactive obstacle course for a 170-foot-long competitive Nike race. Custom software was created to be used on Microsoft Surface Pros. The software allowed VIPs to register their name, email and also trigger activation of the course. A photosystem was also developed and placed in the obstacle course. It automatically snapped an image that was displayed alongside each runner's stats, shown on a 30-ft wide digital victory scoreboard. Custom software allowed Brand Ambassadors to easily monitor each runner's performance and stop the course as needed. Lidar sensors placed throughout the course were programmed to track human motion, triggering amazing real-time visuals.
Throwing light on water using real-time rendered content representing fluid dynamics, explosions and particle simulations. The content was seamlessly projected by four 20K Barco Projectors onto a massive 40x60-foot wall of cascading water. Our visuals were implemented in a custom-built program. The interactive gamification experience was played by professional tennis all-stars and celebrities, including John Isner vs. Monica Puig, and with movie star comedian Kevin James. American Express guests who had the “glowing” tennis ball also got first hand- VIP experience to play this immersive game like the pros.

Volvox Labs’ [VVOX] expertise in creating robust interactive digital experiences and integrating them into physical environments sparked the Microsoft, Lifestyle and Marketing team. It was important to create something surprising and attractive while being advanced and offering subtle hints to brand. Microsoft wanted to harness their most popular technology and use VVOX's past work and combine them with real-world social experiences in a custom built, new media environment. The aesthetic desired was contemporary mixed with old-world charm. As a part of the revamp of the Microsoft Theather, VVOX proposed and created 4 permanent art installations for the gallery lounge.
