Please describe your company and your position there.
I am the CIO at SNOMED International, a not-for-profit organization that owns and maintains SNOMED CT, the world’s most comprehensive clinical terminology. SNOMED International plays an essential role in improving the health of humankind by determining standards for a codified language that represents groups of clinical terms.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
For what projects/services did your company hire Unai Ltd, and what were your goals?
Using AI techniques to validate the quality of SNOMED CT in areas where using automation would considerably improve the efficiency of identifying areas where content could be improved.
SOLUTION
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
We had been talking with UNAI over the previous 6 months looking for a way to leverage their expertise in these technologies to improve SNOMED CT. The UNAI team grasped our issues and offered interesting options of where the technologies could be deployed to help the organization.
Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.
SNOMED International asked Unai to demonstrate a proof of concept for a machine-assisted, Term Validation Service (TVS) that integrates with the current SNOMED International process. The initial scope of this tool was to highlight potentially erroneous Preferred Terms and return them for manual review. This work was over three months with regular meetings to demonstrate the progress leading up to a fully functional prototype to be tested and previewed by SNOMED International terminologists.
How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
The team was a small, focussed team of development, design and management, who worked primarily on the SNOMED International project for the period of the contract.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
The deliverable which was agreed upon in the original contract was met. We were happy with what was delivered by the UNAI team.

We were very happy to work with UNAI and found that the team's ways of working matched very closely to ours. We had no concerns over the working style and continue to look to see how we can work together in the future.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
The openness on the challenges faced in a project and the expertise that the team brought to the table impressed us. And more basically, everyone was very willing to help and a friendly approach to everything that was done made the project a good partnership.
