I’m ‘Mayyank Dhanuka’, Founder & CEO at NeoCars. NeoCars is a mobile application, available on both iOS and Android with 20k+ users. We help connect people who are wanting to hire a car with driver for longer durations with companies that offer these exact services.

NeoCars is an up and coming product and has already shown great potential in the limited time that it has been introduced to the people. This service is available in major part of Kolkata and West Bengal at the moment with plans to foray into the Bangalore and Jaipur markets in 2021.

Hence, we needed to pull in talented developers to increase the quality and performance of the product. We approached EngineerBabu and also hired them to increase the product quality and also for providing technical support in a reliable and cost-effective way.

Overall, EngineerBabu massively helped in developing and testing our application, website, and their deployment.

What were your goals for this project?

Our goal is to build a top 'Car with Driver Rental' services providing platform, so we can deliver our services across all the places in India.

We researched many vendors from different parts of the globe and among them we have shortlisted a few, and asked them for a proposal. After a few rounds of discussions on project scope and commercials, EngineerBabu was the clear frontrunner in terms of experience and project budgets.

First, we started explaining the issues that were present in the application. EB developers spent some hours doing code review and they gave feedback on the code quality.

They have also suggested how the code quality can be improved. The EngineerBabu team listened to the issues that we came up with and they quickly took measures to fix them and release the updated version on respective stores.

The team was extremely knowledgable and supportive in every aspect related to the product rectifications and final delivery. The technologies we used for mobile app development are Native Android and Swift for iOS.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We started working with them in October, 2020. We’re still working with them on multiple modules. However, they maintained the timeline and ensured to deliver the planned task with the code quality in the stipulated time period.

NeoCars was looking to hire talented developers and most importantly at a reasonable budget. We have managed to do that with EngineerBabu. This has allowed us to concentrate and expand our business along with taking it online.

After the introduction of our mobile app in the market, we are growing our customer base and at a rapid pace than earlier. Due to this, we are being able to effectively manage our business.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

They’ve been pretty great in the work. I’m in close contact with the developers and Account manager. They are quite active and work in sync, taking regular follow-ups and updates about any tasks.

I usually just message them for any query or connect through Google Meet for detailed discussion. We use a Basecamp as a Management tool. We have an Account Manager, who constantly reviews the work and interacts with us to get the feedback of the developer and work on the feedback points provided.

We love the professional approach and timely delivery of the modules.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I appreciate their Budget and service. The developers are expert and responsible in their work. It feels more like a partnership than a vendor relationship, which is great.

No. From my interactions and while working with them, I was completely satisfied with the level of information and guidance they provided us.

Once we started working with Engineer Babu's Team, we had a several round of discussion regarding the requirements and the designs. Once the objectives were defined they came up with the design idea which were modified multiple times according to the requirements and finally the team went for the development.

The website is still in Launch phase and we are working hard to get it into the market.

I’m the founder of a wearable tech company that focuses on protecting women in India. We produce affordable bracelets and necklaces that can trigger an emergency response when needed.

We wanted to develop a mobile app that women could use in emergency situations to alert nearby responders. We hired EngineerBabu for design and development.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They started with a high-level design for what the app would look like in iOS and Android, but they began working on development for the Android app first.  

The prototype features a dashboard and panic button. After hitting the panic button, users can chat with people nearby or call the police to provide a location.

I worked with a salesperson, a UI/UX designer, and a developer.

I found them through a Google search. They gave us a very good deal, so we went ahead with them.

We started the project in December 2016 and they completed it in August 2017.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

They delivered all the screen designs for the Android app, and I was very impressed with the level of detail in their designs. The final product met all of our expectations and the UI/UX is very good.

Unfortunately, we didn’t receive funding, so we weren’t able to conduct user testing. Still, I’ve recommended EngineerBabu to friends.

How did EngineerBabu perform from a project management standpoint?

They missed a few milestones, so they could improve their project management. However, they were able to deliver the final product eventually. Throughout the engagement, their communication was very reliable.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their communication impressed me. They responded promptly whenever I sent them a message. I usually heard back from them within five minutes.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They used outdated technology during the implementation phase. If they embraced a more recent tech stack, they could attract more customers.

Before engaging with EngineerBabu, new clients should be certain about what their requirements are. Like any company, they may have difficulty keeping up with clients that regularly change their requirements.

I’m the co-founder of Payload. We link transporters with people in need of a vehicle, whether for moving things or needing commodities like concrete, for example.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We explained our ideas, and they made mockups, showing how the apps would work, before designing it. Once they had our approval, they designed and developed three apps: a user app, an owner app, and a driver app. Each app was developed for both iOS and Android.

The customer app allows them to place an order, generating a message that’s sent to the owner. It also creates a four-digit pin the customer gives to the driver once the job is completed. 

The owner app allows owners to log in, choosing between logistics and commodities. They list out their drivers and their information to make assigning jobs easy.

The driver app sends messages with the job information, and details of drop-off location, contact information, etc. when they are assigned a job. When they finish the job, they get the pin from the customer.

We interacted with a business manager and the lead developer. They communicated everything to the rest of the team.

When we were searching for developers, their name came up a lot. We spoke to 7–8 companies, and decided that we were most comfortable with this team.

We worked together from January–August 2020.

The apps are working well. The team gave honest feedback about our ideas, and helped us make the best choices. They delivered what they promised. It was a pleasant experience.

We mainly dealt with the lead developer, which made communication easy. Things moved along smoothly, and they were flexible our schedule. We didn’t have a lot of formal meetings, which we also liked.

They listened to our ideas and delivered solutions that surpassed our expectations. They went the extra mile to ensure our happiness, and that they included all the features we wanted. They even refined some of the features to make them better.

We have just begun the pilot and are getting an amazing response for the app. Our users are finding it very friendly and smooth and even homemakers on our platform are easily adapting to their version of the app.

The entire project was well managed through basecamp. Our queries were attended on time and apt solutions were provided.

I’m the founder of AJA Trading & General Services. We provide smart system services. One of the systems we have is a delivery application for home services. We’re now working on a new application for taxi passenger transportation.

We needed a company to develop a home services mobile application.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed our home services iOS and Android app. I provided them with everything, including the scope of work and logo we had created. We then started working together on design, where they provided us with multiple options to choose from based on our requirement. In the end, they delivered two apps for iOS and two for Android: A user app and a provider app.

The application currently has 43 different home services it delivers. Users select a service and a time and then confirm the appointment. The application isn’t only to book a service, however. On the provider side, the application will receive notifications and they can accept the order. The provider will develop the service and the customer will get a bill for that amount.

There are three people I interact with. I don’t know how many other people are involved, however.

I found them through online research. We did an analysis on several companies and found that EngineerBabu would add the most value based on our scope of work.

We’ve been working together since August 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The app was launched in less than four months, and then they made more updates. They’re now working on the third version, including changes based on market realities. There have been no issues from the user side, provider side, or our admin controls. Whatever issues occur, EngineerBabu takes immediate action and helps us. We are satisfied with the service they provide. We just signed on for another year of maintenance.

The first project manager left the company, but the replacements deal with us in a very professional way. They offer multi-communication channels in case of an emergency, and we can reach out to them at any time. I’m satisfied with their people.

The communication is good. I receive phone calls from the co-founder who gave me his direct contact. This gives me more confidence to continue dealing with this company.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

EngineerBabu was able to deliver the Angular JS application within the stipulated time frame. The team understood the requirements well, and were able to figure out ways to implement certain complex animations and charts using 3rd party libraries, which were not available out of the box. Completion of these charts were crucial to achieve the intended functionalities of the web application.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

The project was managed well, with every task, minutes of meeting and discussion being captured in Basecamp which is the tracking tool used. The project coordinator was effective in setting correct expectations with all the stakeholders both on our side and their side. The deliverables were handed over well within the agreed time.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The frontend developers put in a lot of effort to implement complex requirements. This was very impressive, as the requirements were critical for the success of the feature. The team did a good job to deliver this!

Are there any areas for improvement?

There were some scope for improvement for finishing touches to the user interface. We went through a lot of trial and error to hit the sweet spot.

Using our designs, EngineerBabu developed a platform from scratch. Initially, they took a month to gather requirements, collaborating closely with our team. Then, they moved into the development phase, which took about four months, using Apache to build out the backend and Node.js on the frontend.

They did a great job of accurately implementing the designs we provided. Our customers have all been very happy with the platform's functionality and user-friendliness thus far.

We held weekly meetings to go over the progress of development throughout the project, and they shared their screens with us to give us visual examples. While I'm satisfied with the way they managed the project for the most part, I would've appreciated a little more detail in the progress reports they provided regarding what had been completed at that point. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were very professional and accommodating, incorporating any changes I requested outside of the scope of work. Unlike other vendors, they didn't make a big deal about change requests or require additional payment. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could be a little more transparent when it comes to guiding teams lacking knowledge in development projects. We had to ask them to clarify certain things or give us more detailed updates on a few occasions. It would've helped to have more information outside of our weekly status meetings.
