I’m the co-founder and CTO of Wizzer AdvisorTech Pvt. Ltd., a financial services company. We provide an end-to-end AI-powered quantitative trading platform for investment professionals, combining strategy research and creation, high-fidelity backtesting, portfolio and risk management, live execution, and strategy distribution in one environment.

What challenge were you trying to address with SquareOps?

We needed to migrate our infrastructure from DigitalOcean to AWS. Instead of a straight lift-and-shift, we wanted to re-architect parts of it to take advantage of what AWS offers, including a proper managed database setup, auto-scaling instead of manual scaling, and a cleaner network/security design, all while keeping downtime to a minimum during cutover.

What was the scope of their involvement?

SquareOps has migrated our infrastructure and re-architected it. The team has delivered a full migration and re-architecture plan, a redesigned AWS environment (VPC, EC2, RDS replacing our DigitalOcean managed database, Auto Scaling Groups, tightened security groups), a phased low-downtime cutover, Terraform code pushed to our own GitHub repos, migration runbooks, and ongoing managed services post go-live with defined SLAs.

We found them through an online search, and they contacted me. Honesty was a big factor. During all the discussions and conversations, they gave us the right approach even when it meant more upfront work, including guidance on how to properly claim AWS credits and structure things for future eligibility under AWS's funding programs. That combination of straight talk and technical credibility made the decision easy.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

After the workload was migrated, we saw improved infrastructure stability and cost optimization. Although the stabilization phase took slightly longer than we initially expected, the overall outcome was positive. We experienced no downtime or business loss during the engagement, and the environment has been running reliably since stabilization.
First, we can now provision infrastructure ahead of trading sessions and automatically scale it down after market hours. On DigitalOcean, stopped servers were still billed. On AWS, we only pay for what's running, which meaningfully reduces our monthly compute costs.Second, our raw market data, model artifacts, and data warehouse backups now live on S3 alongside our compute. On DigitalOcean, cross-provider data transfer added latency and egress costs. 
On AWS, data movement between our servers and S3 is zero-cost, low-latency, faster sandbox provisioning for research & backtests, and backup replication across regions is a single-click operation — something that would have required significant engineering effort before.Moreover, the architectural shift itself has structurally reduced our risk surface. Moving to a single availability zone eliminates inter-service network hops, and AWS's infrastructure tooling gives us CloudWatch-based alerting and automated recovery that we didn't have before. 
Overall, the move has eliminated an entire category of incidents we previously dealt with: cross-provider latency spikes, storage I/O contention on shared DigitalOcean infrastructure, and manual intervention during market hours to manage resource pressure. The new setup gives us more predictable performance characteristics, and we're now instrumented well enough with CloudWatch to catch issues before they become outages rather than reacting after the fact.

How did SquareOps perform from a project management standpoint?

Given we had a month to pull this off, I was honestly a little worried going in — but SquareOps has handled it precisely. We have a Slack channel running with their team the whole time, a weekly sync, and I can check the tracker myself instead of waiting on someone to update me. The scope was locked in early, and when something came up mid-project that could've thrown off the timeline, they flagged it right away instead of letting us find out later.

What did you find most impressive about them?

For a two-person team, the depth of AWS and architecture expertise is commendable. They can go deep on the "why" behind architecture decisions. A few times, they've pushed back on an approach, explained a better alternative, and kept us informed at every phase of the re-architecture and documentation.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The main thing is the discovery phase — it has taken a bit longer than expected, partly because some of our own DigitalOcean configuration (firewall rules, scaling scripts, a few cron jobs) wasn't well documented on our side going in, which added pressure to an already tight one-month timeline. A more structured checklist upfront of exactly what they needed from us would have helped both sides move faster.

The dedicated SRE team also helps us resolve issues quickly without needing to escalate internally first. We’ve also seen stronger security and ongoing cost optimization, which has reduced operational overhead and improved overall ROI.

Onboarding took a bit longer than we expected. Part of that was setting up access at the right levels needed to actually meet the SLA commitments — which makes sense in hindsight, but a clearer heads-up on that access-provisioning timeline at the start would have helped us plan around it better.

An end-to-end AWS modernization for a WooCommerce store, including a zero-downtime migration to Application Load Balancer (ALB), EC2 Auto Scaling, Aurora MySQL Multi-AZ, Redis, and Amazon EFS. Implemented Terraform Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CloudFront with advanced caching for improved Core Web Vitals, Git-based CI/CD with a dedicated staging environment, AWS WAF and IAM security hardening, infrastructure cost optimization, disaster recovery planning, and 24/7 managed support.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

1. Reduced median TTFB from 1.9s to 340ms and improved mobile LCP from 4.3s to 1.5s, bringing storefront and category pages into passing Core Web Vitals.
2. Reduced deployment time from approximately 2 hours of manual FTP work to 9 minutes through full automation, increasing release frequency from roughly 2 to 18 deployments per month with zero failed releases.
3. Improved uptime from 99.2% to 99.96% and reduced MTTR from approximately 3 hours to under 25 minutes using CloudWatch alarms and Grafana dashboards integrated with on-call routing.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

Project management was one of the stronger parts of the engagement, and it held up across both phases of the work. During the initial build we had a shared Slack channel with their delivery team, a weekly review call, and a sprint board we could check ourselves rather than waiting on a status email. Scope and timelines were agreed upfront and risks were flagged early rather than at the deadline at one point a dependency on our side pushed a milestone by about a week, and they re-sequenced the plan instead of letting it stall.

Once we moved into the ongoing managed services phase, that discipline stayed in place. We have a defined SLA with 24x7 coverage on production, a named engineer who knows our environment rather than a rotating helpdesk, and a monthly review where they walk us through incidents, cost trends, patching, and what they're recommending next quarter. Routine maintenance — cluster upgrades, security patching, backup and DR testing is scheduled and communicated in advance rather than sprung on us, and change requests outside the retainer are scoped and priced before any work starts.

Response times have been consistent, usually within 15 minutes for anything urgent, and during production incidents they took ownership without us having to chase anyone for updates. Two years in, the relationship still feels actively managed rather than something running on autopilot.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Two things stood out. First, the depth of hands-on Kubernetes and AWS expertise relative to the size of the teamm, we spoke to larger firms who couldn't answer the same architecture questions in as much detail. Second, they gave us real opinions instead of just doing what they were told. More than once they pushed back on something we'd asked for and explained why a different approach would cost less or break less often, and they were right.

They also kept the documentation side tight throughout, maintaining runbooks as things changed, and the Terraform and application code properly commented and pushed to our own GitHub repos in a clean, well-structured layout. Even with them still supporting us day to day, we always had full visibility into how our platform was built and could work with it ourselves if we needed to.

Are there any areas for improvement or something SquareOps could have done differently?

Nothing that made us reconsider the partnership, but two honest points. The first is ramp-up: understanding our existing setup took longer than we'd expected, partly because a lot of our legacy configuration was undocumented on our side. The discovery phase was slower than the plan assumed, and in hindsight a more structured audit in week one with a clear list of what they needed from us, would have saved both sides a couple of weeks.

The second is that they're a lean, senior team, which is mostly a strength but does mean capacity has to be planned. When we came to them mid-engagement with an additional workstream on short notice, staffing it took a few days longer than we'd have liked. They were upfront about it rather than overcommitting, which we'd rather have, but if you're expecting scope to expand quickly it's worth flagging early instead of assuming a team can be spun up overnight.
