Moving has always been in my blood. My father was in the military and had a 30-year career with US Customs. Our family moved seven times before I was 14 years old. My brothers and I spent many days building forts out of all the moving boxes. I remember covering my little brother with inventory stickers we peeled off all the furniture.

Our final move was to Vienna Virginia in 1979 where I laid down roots in the Washington DC metropolitan area.

As a senior at James Madison High School, I was recruited by a local mover for a summer job as a helper. I spent the next four years helping to put myself through college by working summers and holidays moving furniture. While others spent spring breaks at the beach, I was loading and unloading trucks. I received my business degree in 1989 from James Madison University.

After graduation, I stayed with the same moving company working in sales and marketing. Over a 20-year period, I assisted this company in growing from a one truck operation to a company with 10 trucks and over 40 employees. This hands-on experience assisted me in learning about every aspect of the moving industry.

I always had dreams of starting my own moving company. I had seen the good aspects as well as the bad aspects of the moving industry. I really wanted to be able to take the good things I had learned over these many years and incorporate them into something of my own. With this passion, Sloan’s Moving and Storage was born.

For more than 32 years, we have been providing residential and business moving services throughout the region.
