Preparing a planner or explainer video takes time and planning and if you have good team on board this becomes a joyful opportunity to experience something of another level

We were doing all kind of meeting being zoom or Skype and getting phone call for undertaking the minor tweaks

They take things from 0 to 100. This is something I like and making it as priority for delivering something different what we thought initially and result is gem of output

This COVID has resulted in WFH kind of remote situation and thus things would have been smoother in person I guess

I’m the executive director of a municipal waste management company in Mumbai. We process solid waste into electricity through biogas methanation, and make compost out of organic waste. We’re one of the largest operators in India for waste collection and transportation, as well as for solid waste processing.

What challenge were you trying to address with Showtime Productions?

Showtime Productions took up the assignment of producing a 5–10-minute video.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Showtime initially provided the research, design, and production of a video to attract prospective customers. They selected a voice actor and did the scriptwriting, animation, and everything else involved in the production. Additionally, all the equipment used for the shoot was from their end.

One of our challenges during production was portraying our non-scripted services into a short documentary realistically. We also needed the video to be understandable and not bore the viewers. In addition, most of the filming was done on a landfill site, so not only did it smell bad, we also couldn’t shoot during peak hours — the production crew also had to use drones so they needed to film responsibly and not harm any birds.

The final video is for both internal and external use and is primarily meant for marketing and knowledge enhancement. It contains a lot of technical graphics and animations that can’t be seen within the system.

What is the team composition?

I wasn’t there for most of the shooting except for 1–2 occasions, but I believe there were about 4–5 people involved in the production. Among those were a cameraman, a drone operator, and a person who handled the lighting.

How did you come to work with Showtime Productions?

They were recommended to me. They’d done similar work in the past, and I thought that they were the perfect people to do the job.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent somewhere between $5,000–$10,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

This project ran between January–February 2021, but we have a long-term partnership and we’re still working with Showtime on a contractual basis.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The production wasn’t at their convenience schedule-wise, but they handled the difficulties really well despite the uneventful coordination. The entire Showtime team performed well and the result was much better than we expected. Waste management is neglected by most people, so producing a video gives immense insight into what it’s all about.

The animations explain the more technical aspects of waste management, so the video is helpful for regular people and technical viewers — it’s also been helpful to the municipal bodies we’re in touch with. Moreover, since it’s a government project, we can’t publish it online like on YouTube. 

How did Showtime Productions perform from a project management standpoint?

I’m happy with their performance. We communicate through phone calls, WhatsApp, and email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Showtime is a growing company and they have great potential ahead. I like that they have the ability to analyze and understand what our needs are, and how they can be captured and portrayed. Other production companies usually have to spend a lot of time doing retakes and reshoots, but we didn’t do much of that — their director was really good so there wasn’t a lot of wastage.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They should get higher-end cameras and editing equipment. There are a lot of improvements being made in the industry which could help Showtime achieve better quality.

They’re a young team with great insights and inputs. Given the right push, they can come up with what the customer is looking for and what they can’t see through — they have the eye for that.

We wanted someone with a quick TAT as we needed to release the video to our SM channels so that it would help us in hiring the best candidates.

After the kick-off meeting the Sales head Siddharth helped us create a detailed action-oriented plan for the project. He also showed us the past work he has already done in the employer branding space. That gave us confidence and along with our team of content creators and graphic designers, his team quickly created a storyline for the video which appealed to us as it resonated our values and culture. Within 2 weeks the crew set up all the set for filming the video over a weekend at our office location.

The edit took them a few more weeks and some back and forth before we had the final video in about 8 weeks from the start date.

There were 8 people. The graphics and animation team had 2 members, the video shoot team had 4 people excluding actors, 1 for editing and 1 for sales.

We worked with a project manager who outlined the timeline and kept us on a schedule after each milestone. We were given regular feedback via zoom meetings in order o be aligned with the project end goal and completion timeline.

Given the right deadline for the product launch, we were totally time bound with just 2 weeks for completion. We were particularly impressed with the efforts out in by the team day in and day out. The project was handed over before the decided timeline.

I wish we could have worked in person with each other in the studio, as this would have been convenient and fun.
