Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the former head of growth at Midfulness.com, a mindfulness hub that owns a guided meditation app for sleep.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Scale Fanatics?

We were in the wellness and health industry, and reading blogs, we discovered that the average view-to-install rate in the App Store for our sector was 64%. Meanwhile, our app’s install rate was about 30%–35%, so we saw an opportunity to double that, but we weren’t sure how. We did some tests on our own, but the needle wasn’t moving, so we approached Scale Fanatics for help.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Scale Fanatics ran diagnostics and an audit of our app, including competitor analysis. Once they finished the audit, they reviewed our listing; they looked at our branding materials, unique selling proposition (USP), user demographics, and user personas.

From there, they proposed opportunities to improve our app. They also designed the proposed tests and built prototypes for our designer to use and implement.

How did you come to work with Scale Fanatics?

We were reading their articles for free for a long time. We found Scale Fanatics through Google while looking for information on app optimization and paid media for apps — they have great SEO. They do a lot of case studies, and their founders are really smart. 

I reached out to Scale Fanatics a year ago, and they gave me some advice even though we weren’t ready to hire them at the time. As soon as we saw an opportunity to work together, we jumped a the chance. 

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $5,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from November–December 2021.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We were very happy with the information Scale Fanatics provided. Their insights were clear and very fresh. I left the company before they tested the prototype, so I don’t have any metrics. However, our head of product was very pleased with Scale Fanatics’ work and took it straight to production.

How did Scale Fanatics perform from a project management standpoint?

They were great at project management. Their team was very responsive, stayed on top of everything, and delivered on time. We typically communicated through email and Zoom calls. 

They were also very flexible with scheduling. I was in the US, my team was in Australia, and Scale Fanatics was in Europe, so they did calls with us in the middle of the night, which I was very grateful for. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was impressed by their ability to analyze the industry landscape and data. Anyone can read articles to get a ton of data, whereas Scale Fanatics can look at data and turn it into actionable insights.

They looked at our information and asked us if we’d considered certain aspects, and then they gave us action items for improvement. This quality extended beyond audits and app optimization; they were also very strategic with paid media.

The Scale Fanatics team could look at the whole picture, identify the 90% that didn’t matter, and focus on the 10% that would move that needle and improve our app — they were a phenomenal partner. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there wasn’t anything they needed to improve; I was very pleased with them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

The best way to engage with Scale Fanatics is to be available with whatever data they need. Give them access to all your accounts from the beginning. When we worked together, I slowed them down because I missed a couple of things and didn’t give them access right away. They needed that data to compile their insights. 

Whether you hire Scale Fanatics to run paid media or do audits and diagnostics for you, they’ll need to look at your existing data. Set them up for success ahead of time by giving them everything they need to do their job. I definitely recommend hiring them.
