We have a small but highly capable development team sourced through Runtime, consisting of two senior engineers (one of whom also serves as team lead), one mid-level engineer, and a QA Specialist. They are managed by our Head of Product (myself) and supported by an internal UX Designer—together forming the Product team at PetPlate.

Our developers execute projects aligned with the annual roadmap, delivered in bi-weekly sprints. Their work spans several critical areas of the business. A major focus is reducing bugs and improving internal operational efficiency, enabling our teams to scale effectively without compromising the customer experience. Another key area is driving subscriber growth and retention, with particular emphasis on optimizing the subscription flow and account management experiences.

Notably, the team has also laid the groundwork for a scalable QA process—an essential investment for long-term quality and velocity. Additionally, they’ve supported the technical onboarding of new eCommerce sales channels, most notably Chewy and Amazon.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

• Improved Internal Efficiency:
  Through bug fixes and internal tooling improvements, we reduced the volume of internal support tickets significantly within the first 3-6 months, allowing our CX and Ops teams to focus more on strategic tasks rather than reactive support.
• Subscription Flow Optimization:
  Enhancements to the subscription funnel contributed to an increase in checkout conversion rate and lift in new subscriber acquisition quarter-over-quarter.
• Growth and Retention-Focused New Features:
  UX and feature improvements in the “My Account” experience, including simplified plan management, and proactive communication flows - mirrored with our email strategy- which helped reduce early churn among new subscribers and sustain growth with our high LTV customers.
• QA Process Implementation:
  The team implemented a foundational QA workflow, reducing post-release bugs significantly within 30 days, and improving overall release confidence and velocity.
• New Channel Enablement:
  Successfully completed the technical onboarding of Chewy and Amazon as new sales channels, which has accounted for a notable boost in our new order volume since launch.

Our Runtime developers are excellent communicators, particularly when it comes to transparency around deliverable timelines. As the Product team lead, I trust and rely on their input and recommendations, which strengthens the broader trust we’ve built across the PetPlate organization. As a small business, our priorities and project scopes often shift—something that can be challenging for many development teams. However, this team consistently handles change with professionalism and agility, quickly pivoting when needed without losing momentum or morale.

There are many things that impress me about this team, but most notably their ability to dive into a legacy system full of bugs and incomplete code, and quickly identify and implement effective solutions. They balance big-picture thinking with attention to day-to-day needs, and consistently demonstrate a genuine motivation to understand and solve the challenges faced by our teams. They work closely with our Operations and Customer Support teams, and we’re collectively grateful for the empathy and responsiveness they bring to every interaction.

I'm the CEO and co-founder of HealthHive. We provide a B2B SaaS platform that connects aging adults, their informal care teams, and healthcare providers. Our platform streamlines care coordination, information sharing, and long-term care management without disrupting existing workflows.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Runtime Revolution has been our long-term engineering team. They've developed the Hive, a shared environment owned by individuals that links their broad range of health and social providers and environments into one collaborative framework. It integrates care plans, health records, communication tools, resources, and social supports, ensuring everyone can access and contribute to essential information and engage as a coordinated team.

HealthHive is two-sided. On one side, patients and families manage their own Hive, maintaining ownership and control over their care journey. On the enterprise side, HealthHive integrates directly into clinical workflows, either acting as middleware to the EHR or operating through the HealthHive Portal, allowing care teams to engage without disrupting their existing systems.

We work with six teammates from Runtime Revolution.

We were introduced to Runtime Revolution through a highly respected CTO who has global experience working with outsourced engineering teams. We were impressed with Runtime Revolution's due diligence and interest in learning about the problems we were looking to solve. Additionally, we received a recommendation from our friend who has worked with them for many years.
