Rooftop provides talent for our team. They give us developers specializing in cloud architecture, AWS, and everything related to these. Simply put, they recruit people, train them, create a community of experts, and incorporate them into our projects based on our requests.

We’ve worked with 8–10 people, including cloud administrators, DevOps engineers, and cloud architects.

Rooftop contacted our HR team and offered their services. After that, we had a series of interviews. We then realized that they had similar values to us; the way they selected, trained, and cared for their talent was similar to how we did things — this was one of the main reasons we decided to work with them.

We’ve invested around $300,000.

Our engagement started in January 2021, and it’s ongoing.

The staff that Rooftop has provided has had a 100% successful performance. All of them stay with their teams until projects are finished.

We manage the staff by ourselves. However, their workflow has been great. They always answer us quickly.

The similar values that we share are impressive.

No, there aren’t any.

Generate a bond with Rooftop, and make the engagement more than a transaction. Being close to them and understanding their values are key to the success of your partnership.

What challenges were you trying to address with Rooftop Devlab?

We needed a technology partner that could adapt to the demands of our industry. Not many developers feel comfortable working with blockchain technologies, so we needed to find those interested in learning about and working with it. We contacted Rooftop Devlab to help with our recruitment needs, and they provided us with the right designers and developers for our team.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The process we follow starts by sending Rooftop Devlab a list of requirements that include technical and soft skills. After that, we have meetings to define details, and they then provide us with 3–4 profiles to choose the right person for our needs.

As for tools, they use Solidity, Node.js for the backend, and React for the frontend. 

What was the team composition?

We work with back- and frontend developers and a designer.

How did you come to work with  Rooftop Devlab?

Someone from my former digital agency who used to be in charge of HR founded her HR agency. I knew about her work, so I contacted her, and she referred me to Rooftop Devlab. 

How much have you invested in them?

We invest around $14,000 a month with them.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in October 2021, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our development leader is very happy with their work; they’ve been able to adapt very quickly and have had a great performance. 

How did Rooftop Devlab perform from a project management standpoint?

They make follow-up calls every month and a half to evaluate how their resources are working with us, how things are going from our side, and how they are responding to our needs and meeting expectations. Overall, their follow-up process is very good. 

In terms of tools, we use ClickUp, Jira, and Discord.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The quality of the profiles they provided is outstanding; we have worked with other companies in the past, and none had met our overall needs with such detail. Rooftop Devlab has the technical skills to respond directly to your needs as a company. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

The number of profiles they present could improve; we’d like a bigger pool to choose from all at once.

Focus on using them to find key roles that need a higher level of complexity to find.

I'm R&D Manager at Tecnología Integral S.A. a company focused on supplying control automation and monitoring systems for the Minning, Cement and Wood industry.

For what projects/services did your company hire Rooftop Devlab, and what were your goals?

Our company lack the capacity and knowledge to hire SW developers, mainly to work with front-end tools. Over the years we have developed a custom SW for monitoring the status of idlers in a mining conveyor belt. The SW had a rudimentary front-end interface and we needed to improve it. Also arises the nececity to take this develompment to the Cloud.

As a result, we hire Rooftop to help us with these tasks. Our goal was to support us in the development of an improved platform to deliver better user experience to our customers, both on premises and in the cloud.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We found them through Linkedin. We had our first meeting where they explained us this kind of collaboration and the kind of collaboration the can give us. We chose them because it was exactly the partner we needed.

He is working on a platform designed to visualize and monitor the status of idlers on a conveyor belt. Each component of this platform is programmed using docker containers. There is container with a web page developed in Ruby On Rails. Another container manages IoT mqtt messages with measured data comming from sensors installed on the conveyor belt. There is a container that procces the incoming data from the sernsors and use ANNs to predict a state of operation, that is later published in the web page.

There is a Semi-senior Full Stack developer.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We were able to improve the system platform. We launched the platform on several mine site customers with positive feedback from them. We are now working on a MVP to take the platform from on premises to the cloud. We were able to sussesfully deploy a POC.

The entire project was managed by us. It was not neccessary managmet guided by Rooftop.

They gave us direct access and control over the assigned resource.

Although we prefer to hire and train our own talent, there are projects that allow us to partner with other companies to achieve greater results. In this case, we had an upcoming short project with unclear horizons, so we were unsure about increasing our team to take that project. Increasing our team through Rooftop looked like a good alternative. We required experienced talent to join the team.

Rooftop looked like a great young enterprise. Their approach was soft and professional which made clear for us that they were looking for long term engagements and in order to achieve that, they would make sure to give us a great experience. Also, they seemed to have a similar culture to ours, focused on the wellbeing and development of their people, which we later confirmed.

From my position, I can give more information regarding the process of achieving an agreement with Rooftop. I might say it was always in their best interest to achieve a win-win agreement, and didn’t mind reviewing and renegotiating any of the points that we were not fully convinced of. Since we signed the contract, the relationship continued smoothly, and we are really looking forward to trusting them with new projects.

Rooftop Devlab manages their projects well — we use Jira to manage development. Typically, we communicate with Rooftop Devlab through Microsoft Teams.

Thanks to their recruiting skills, we've hired more people who still work with us. Thanks to that, we've been saving time, reducing our costs, having quality resources, and improving customer satisfaction and revenue.

How did Rooftop Devlab perform from a project management standpoint?

Project management has been great; they're always on time for meetings and let us know when someone is delayed or not at the top of their game. I've also made some requests, and they've been proactive about it and making sure that they're able to meet all of our HR needs. In terms of communication, we use Google Meet, phone calls, text messages, and WhatsApp.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They care about their clients, and any requests that we've made, they've implemented into their program — they're not afraid to take on some risks to make their clients happy.

They could create an educational program around solidity development, but we've already started implementing that.
