Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the co-founder of a mobile data analytics company. We work with mobile operators, financial service providers, and app developers to help them better understand market dynamics and consumer activity in emerging markets.

What challenge were you trying to address with Research 8020 Limited?

In every market where we operate, we assemble nationally representative panels of about a thousand users. We always work with a local recruiting partner to help us find the demographically representative panels that we need.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They went, recruited, and enrolled different panels in Kenya for us. That includes face-to-face recruitment of panelists across the country. We gave them requirements, demographic quotas for age, gender, and locality, and some specifics in terms of the digital engagement or usage of these individuals.

What is the team composition?

It’s anywhere from 5–15 people at our local partner. We have one point of contact, Anthony (Research Director).

How did you come to work with Research 8020 Limited?

I don’t remember how we found them, but we’ve worked probably three or four different research agencies in Kenya. For us, Research 8020 Limited was the right blend of professionalism and research rigor. They could balance the rigor that we need with the speed and cost-effectiveness that we needed.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent between $10,000–$50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in May 2019.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve worked with them on two or three different recruiting drives. Their services are high-quality. Their full-time staff is well-trained, and they all can ramp up. They’re able to provide us with quick and professional service with good communication. It’s a critical need for us in every market we operate.

Research 8020 Limited continues to be a resource for us. The other day, I spoke to Anthony and asked him to call several mobile shops to find out the new offerings.

How did Research 8020 Limited perform from a project management standpoint?

Anthony has his full-time staff, and they work with the contract stuff. We have our own internal dashboard tools with all of our local recruiters, and that’s how we keep them up to date on the status. Other than that, we use email and WhatsApp.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Research 8020 Limited is willing to help us out with whatever we need. They have a decent network of tech connections. They’ve even brokered introductions for us with different firms we wanted to talk to. They’re experienced, flexible, and professional.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t think we have any criticisms.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

With all firms like this, we have a recruiter go through a test or trial enrollment. They spend a day with their staff recruiting people, but it’s all testing to ensure everyone’s on the same page with what exactly needs to happen. That’s best practice.
