Kim began her career working in the travel industry then worked for BAE Combat Vehicles. She subsequently worked in the Middle East.
Since returning to the UK, Kim has led Continuing Professional Development (CPD) at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), then worked for technology industry analyst companies, the Hewson Group and IDC.
Kim has a BA(Hons) from the University of Sunderland and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Imperial College, University of London. She is also a Chartered Marketer.
Kim is a Member of Toastmasters International (TM), a global, not-for-profit organization that provides a forum for people to develop their communication and leadership skills. Thus Kim is a Past President of the UK's oldest public speaking / TM clubs; was an award winner at the UK & Ireland public speaking championships; and is an Advanced Communicator Gold (ACG). Kim is also a Distinguished ToastMaster (DTM) which is the highest award that can be achieved at TM.
Over the years, Kim has carried out much voluntary work. This not only includes long term support for TM, but also includes being Chair of Carers Action, Carers Network Westminster, which is a regional centre for the charity, Careers Trust (which represents the needs of unpaid carers, a cause that Kim is passionate about).
