I’m the CEO of an advanced materials company located in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

What challenge were you trying to address with Placemaking 4G?

We needed to find six people and grow our scientific team very quickly.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Placemaking 4G conducted a discovery session to understand what we were looking for. Using that information, they performed a targeted search for qualified candidates. Since the position was a highly technical scientific job, we needed people to have a very specific set of skills and backgrounds. As a result, the team performed the search not just regionally, but across the country.

The team was in charge of the hiring process of the candidates and involved us during interviews whenever necessary. On top of that, they gave great perspective and feedback in their recommendations. Together, we downselected to find our recruits. Once the candidates were hired, Placemaking 4G primed them for entry into our company.

What is the team composition?

We collaborated with two of their founding partners and two other people who provided a specific niche service within the company.

How did you come to work with Placemaking 4G?

I met Placemaking 4G, and I discussed our needs. After that, they laid out their services and we agreed to go into the engagement together.

How much have you invested with them?

We invested over $25,000 CAD (approximately $19,700 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

Our collaboration ran from January–August 2021.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The Placemaking 4G team really took the burden off of management because they were experts in hiring. They really did a great job at finding the right candidates because they were familiar with the metrics we used. In the end, all of the employees we hired were fantastic because they had the right skills and they were a cultural fit. Overall, we had no issues.

How did Placemaking 4G perform from a project management standpoint?

They were good with timelines and communication, especially in communicating their progress while they were searching for our targeted candidates. We kept in touch through email, video conferencing, and phone calls.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The team had a unique philosophy on what makes a great team to work very well together and they brought that during their targeted hiring process. Due to that, we’d always hire Placemaking 4G to help us with our hiring process.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, they did a great job. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

They’re still a small company so be prepared to contact them early if you need something because they might be booked up. Furthermore, there’s going to be an additional cost in your hiring process if you’re going to work with them. However, the cost is worth it because you’ll end up with a good candidate. Other than that, you just need to go for it.
