I presented Pine Book Publishing with my unfinished book in MS word. They took my book and began the editing process. We went over the book line by line. They provided me the edited material a few chapters at a time. They did the proofreading and editing. After rereading their edits, I chose what I wanted to keep and which edits I wanted to discard. The final product was on me, and I liked that.

Book cover art. I described to my team Lead Amara Johnson my project manager, the picture I was seeing in my head for what I wanted the cover of the book to look like. After a few renditions they provided me exactly what I was looking for. I could not be happier with the cover of the book.  

Next was the logo. After doing the cover, they had an idea of the space my head was in for this project. They provided me a few examples of a logo to choose from. I chose the one that was closest to what I was seeing in my head for the logo I wanted. After some back and forth tweeking we were able to come up with a logo that I was very pleased with for my book saga.

The website was next. With the website, I gave my project manager a breakdown of what I was thinking about for what I wanted to see for my website. They provided me a few options to choose from. After a little tweeking, we got the website to what I was looking for. There was some back and forth, but we got it to where I wanted it to be. They made edits quickly, and as soon as they were made I was notified. The final product was better than I imagined.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Editing the book was the hard part. By keeping the chapter count down to 2 or 3 chapters to edit at a time it made the mountain seem smaller to climb. We would do a few chapters a week until we had finished my manuscript. After a few months we were all the way through it. 

While we were in the editing process we also did the cover, logo, and website. By having more than one team working on my project, they were able to finish multiple aspects of the book. They worked hard and kept busy.

Amara Johnson was my project manager for this project. She was on top of it the whole time. Whenever I needed her I could reach out to her via text, email, or basecamp.  She always responded quickly. This was not her first rodeo. She kept the project moving forward the whole time. I could not be happier with the work that she put it.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I had a lot of big ideas in my head for what I thought I wanted my book to be. They helped me to pull those ideas out of my head and put them on paper. As a first time writer, was all over the place. The helped reel me back in and show me what was actually possible and what was impossible. They helped deliver hard truths about the realites of writing. They were always very professional and prompt with their replies. But ultimately, I liked that they helped me finish something that I had been working on for years. Not only did they help me, but they helped make my book better.   

Are there any areas for improvement or something Pine Book Writing could have done differently?

I would have liked them to have a little more information about the secondary services that they offer in the beginning of the process as well as the prices for those services. They let you choose which additional services you want to purchase. All of the secondary services they offered help make your book sell better and reach more people. I did not have to choose to use those services but, I am glad I chose to use a few of those secondary services. Looking back, I would have liked to know more about the secondary services and the cost of the secondary services in the beginning.
