This project was designed to integrate a variety of functionalities into one seamless platform, encompassing a marketplace, news and articles, events, company profiles, and video content, thereby enhancing our reach and engagement within the manufacturing industry sector.

The app newsadvisors is a news aggregator and it had to be accessed form Android and IOS phones and tablets, also as a web site(newsadvisors.eu). It is thought as a social platform with users who upload news, give rates and comment. It was 800h project with ten well respected fazes. Do to an announced pitch opportunity they even made fully functional app for presentation in the middle of the timeline - uploaded on their local server; and I think that says enough.

We saw a recommendation from an old client and decided to contact them and the design team for an offer.

We had a kick off meeting detailing our requirements, we agreed upon using Wordpress and the deliverables. An external design team was also involved in the process so the development timeline started when the designs were final.

I worked directly with a project manager and a developer. I also know that one of the senior developers in the team was providing support while we did not directly interact.

It is too early to assess but new site was very well received by our community as being more friendly and easier to use/ navigate.

We were working under extraordinary circumstances due to covid restrictions which impacted the timeline from both sides.

During this project, I was the sales manager for Forbes Romania, which is a franchise of Fobes International. I was in charge of editing the Forbes Romania and Forbes Life magazines as well as the annual top Fortune 500 publication.

What challenge were you trying to address with Neo Vision?

We had an outdated custom WordPress website. It was built way back when the company launched in 2016, so we feared that some of its outdated and phased-out plug-ins would lead to a fatal crash. We needed a new website built with some custom features but we didn’t have any technical expertise in-house, so we hired Neo Vision.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

While Neo Vision was building a new WordPress website from scratch, they were doing a bit of maintenance on our existing site because it was crashing a lot. That was during the first month of our collaboration. Their team then contacted our hosting provider to update our plan and migrated all of the content from the old site to the new one.

The migration left us with plenty of spaces for custom ads, so their team created a feature where ads and article links change as the user scrolls further down. Apart from the new plug-ins that they built, we carried over some designs and features from the old website such as the infinite scroll option. Neo Vision also put a new structure in place to help editors map posted articles. 

The ads initially made the website load very slowly, but they were able to rectify that right away. Neo Vision also worked with another agency that did the keyword research. At the end of that collaboration, they were provided with a whole document of tasks to implement.

What is the team composition?

We’ve worked with 3–4 people from their team. Our main contact is the CEO, with whom we discuss all administrative details and main project goals. Their CTO is also involved with customer service-related matters.

How did you come to work with Neo Vision?

In our latest edition of 30 under 30, one of the people involved had partnered with Neo Vision on a specific platform. This person recommended the agency to us. At that point, I had also done a project with someone from Neo Vision, so I had an idea of how they worked. We saw that Neo Vision had experience with other news websites similar to ours, so we decided to meet with them to further discuss the details of the project. 

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about €10,000–€15,000 (approximately $11,000–$17,000 USD) for the website.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together around April–May 2021, and their team is still providing monthly support and maintenance services.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Since launching the new website, our page views have grown month-over-month. Neo Vision’s implementation has received really good feedback from our editors and from our SEO service provider. Each time they tested the new site, the results were good, and we now rank well for four different keywords.

Despite issues and delays, the overall outcome has been excellent. Our new website has a better loading speed than the last one, and articles on the homepage automatically update on their own. Uploading new media has also become easier thanks to our WordPress edition being up to date. We used to have huge problems when it came to image and article-sharing, but thanks to Neo Vision’s development work and customized features, we barely experience these issues now.

How did Neo Vision perform from a project management standpoint?

Neo Vision collaborated well with our SEO provider to tackle the huge amount of work. Most of the delays were due to some issues on our end; they created schedules and met all deadlines, but we had difficulty getting on the same page internally. 

Despite that, though, they upheld really good communications. When something didn’t work right or needed more attention, they informed us immediately. Whenever we asked for changes or new features, they tried to see what they could do.

I don’t know what internal project management tools they used, but we communicated over email and spoke via phone calls or WhatsApp for more time-sensitive matters.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was really astonished by how they put us first even though I pushed their buttons and wasn’t an easy client. I didn’t have any technical background, but the team helped me through the process. They were very kind, did their job well, and never made me feel like I was asking stupid questions. It was very collaborative in that they understood my goals, translated our needs into a technical brief, and discussed more efficient ways of doing things with us to help us make a decision.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Transparently speaking, they should charge more or say no sometimes. There were a lot of late nights and instances when we both worked over hours, but they really didn’t have to do that. Also, I feel like if they had sent us the staging version of the website to test it while it was under development, it maybe would’ve saved some time.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Use all of their knowledge and experience. The knew more about what could be done than I did as the client, so make sure to have collaborative conversations and a transparent, friendly approach. They are sure to make the best out of your project.

Our website was so old, and so outdated that was extremely vulnerable to online attacks... and even just a plugin update was enough to turn it off for a couple of hours/days. Moreover, the advertisers were not attracted by our mobile view, decreasing numbers of visitors and outdated design and advertising functionalities.

When searching for a potential supplier, they had great recommandations coming from our partners and community. An after the first discussion we found out that they have strong experience working for companies from our industry.

After launching the site we received a great number of positive feedbacks coming from our community ( readers and partners), and in terms of traffic we saw a clear growth rate.

The communication was really effective. We used email for setting the schedules and main goas and Whatsapp/ Google Meet to get everyone on the same page for smaller tasks and details.

The feeling of being comrades fighting for the same objectives coming from a supplier was definitely unique. It was nevers about an extra feauture that was not initially took into consideration, working after hours or the need of renegociating the whole deal.It was always about the final successful result.

We do the project analysis and estimate together, then we involve them in the UX/UI project for advice. When the design is ready, we have a meeting for debriefing, Q&A and project scheduling. We communicate during the development process on Slack and make sure we have the best possible option at the end.

We always receive ready to launch, responsive websites. Our expectations are high (pixel perfect), but they manage to do great work. Our clients are also satisfied with the results, their websites are usually standing out in their sector.

We have Slack channels for each project and we talk directly with the project manager and the developer in charge. Our designers have a good communication with the development team and they work together to find the best solution for great projects. We do Skype calls for meetings and share content on Google Drive.

We appreciate their flexibility, as a team of designers, we know we are not an easy client. We like their input on the UX/UI projects. We can't do a great design without their technical mind involved.

We both have to work on scheduling, but it's getting better and better.
