What was the scope of their involvement?

They help us with development. We use specialized platforms like Holochain, which is a distributive computing technology. The team’s unique coding language skills help us reach our goals.

We worked on them with a project for a university client. The team helped develop software to create a mini-grid on one of the campuses.

We work with two people from their team.

How did you come to work with My Team Abroad?

I found them through the Holochain community. They had the specialized knowledge we were looking for.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent $10,000–$25,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in May 2020, and our work is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

It’s been a really successful relationship.

How did My Team Abroad perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve become a member of our team. We use an agile methodology in our projects and we have daily scrums. I also have a regular check-in with their manager to make sure everything is on track.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The software for the university actually won an award with the UN, which was a pretty big deal for our business.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Things can slightly be challenging from a connectivity point of view, but that’s outside of the control of the team. I was a little worried about the language barrier at the start, but the resources we’ve been assigned have had great English communication skills.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

We’ve looked at a lot of different remote partnership options, but the My Team Abroad has been far and away the best. My advice is to consider time zones in your decision. We had a developer from India once and while he was a great developer, the time difference became really difficult to manage.

My Team Abroad is providing developers for us.

What is the team composition?

Maria Fernanda (Executive Personnel Selection Technician) is my point of contact, and we have two developers from My Team Abroad.

How did you come to work with My Team Abroad?

Their owner is a friend of mine.

How much have you invested with them?

We’re paying $2,000 per month per developer, so the cost is $4,000 per month right now. The one-year contract we have with them is estimated to cost $48,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with My Team in August 2020, and we have a one-year contract with them.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

It’s hard not to be happy with My Team Abroad. They did all the hard work of finding developers, and they only showed us prequalified candidates. We were then able to look at the candidates’ portfolios and interview them.

The fact that we’re involved in the process helps a lot, and, if something doesn’t work, it’s not all on them. We know what we’re getting before we have to pay for it.

How did My Team Abroad perform from a project management standpoint?

They only provide developers, and we do all the project management.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their pricing is really competitive relative to the quality of the people. Secondly, I really like the way My Team Abroad presents its people. The candidates’ sheets are simple and easy to read, cutting through a lot of the nonsense. They grade certain areas with a scale to make it easier for us.

In our case, we went through four candidates, but I can imagine that it would’ve been very easy even if I had to go through 50 because they lay out information clearly.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Not at this stage. Our account manager touches base with us at least once a month, to see how the developers are doing and whether they’re meeting our expectations. There’s quite a bit of follow-up there, and I’m okay with it, but I might start to find it annoying if it happens every single month.

They told me that they’re doing the same thing with the developers on the other side, checking up with them to see how they’re doing and if they need anything. The developers don’t have to ask for anything in terms of equipment. My Team Abroad takes care of everything.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

It’s important to know what you’re looking for. If, for example, you’re looking for a frontend React or AngularJS developer, you need to be specific on which version of the frameworks you’re looking for, and specify whether the candidate also has to know about Bootstrap, databases, or anything else.
