Susan G. Komen Chicago partnered with Mekky Media Relations for the third year in a row to generate buzz and promote registration for its annual Mother’s Day Race for the Cure event. The Mekky team was tasked with increasing the earned impression numbers and varying the types of media outlets surrounding the event, as well as bringing in big names to drive event participation.
Mekky Media secured the Chicago Cubs’ Anthony Rizzo to come onsite to the event and commence the official Race. Through targeted outreach strategy, Mekky Media also secured Windy City Live host Val Warner to emcee the event. In addition to securing both celebrity guests, Mekky Media provided onsite support during the day of the Race. The team was able to secure coverage after the event through post-event outreach and pitching, securing over 110 million earned media impressions in print, online and broadcast publications throughout the Chicago market.
As the largest single-store retailer of electronics, appliances and home goods in the country, Glenview, Illinois-based ABT’s agenda for Mekky Media was two-fold. Mekky was charged with garnering ongoing national media for some of the family business’ more unique features, such as their double digit annual growth every year since their 1936 launch, their green initiatives such as their 12,000 square foot recycling center and rainwater harvesting system and their 100,000 square foot showroom. Mekky was also asked to promote in-store events locally.
Wealth Management Group approached Mekky Media for PR services in the hopes to raise awareness of their company, resulting in increased credibility and new business.
We positioned CEO Craig Bolanos as a national finance expert and thought leader, offering him to key media sources for commentary on timely financial topics. In only seven months, we have achieved 122 million media impressions in local and national outlets.
Francesca’s Restaurant Group was gearing up to launch its newest concept, Joe’s Imports. A premium wine bar with exclusive, globally sourced wines and paired shared plates, Joe’s Imports tasked the Mekky Media team with not only bringing customers through the door at the trendy Fulton Market location, but introducing the new hot spot to the entire city of Chicago.
The Mekky Media team developed targeted strategy that ultimately led to a successful - and widely talked about - grand opening at Joe’s Imports. These strategic tactics included fully planning and executing an exclusive media-only event held before the official open date. This introduced all of Chicago’s top taste makers to Joe’s Imports and formed relationships that ultimately led to the lasting popularity and coverage of the bar - including multiple full-page features in The Chicago Tribune and CS Modern Luxury, and a recurring spot on Eater Chicago “hot spot” roundups.
Chicago-based IES Abroad charged Mekky Media with providing pre and post-event PR outreach, celebrity emcee talent booking/management and event support for their first film festival touting the vocational benefits and personal growth of students who study abroad. Students who studied abroad were invited to submit documentaries and music videos of varying lengths regarding how worldwide travel changed their lives. Winning submissions were showcased at the film festival.
Mekky Media did a great deal of logistical coordination and marketing for this event beyond the scope of media relations. Celebrity emcee, Kate Flannery (of NBC’s “The Office”) was courted, booked, provided with talking points and media trained. Mekky Media coordinated with student universities to encourage IES Abroad Film Festival voting and winner information across their networks, drafted social media posts and recommended announcement language. Mekky Media researched and contacted local theaters, IES-partnered universities and businesses for sponsorship opportunities and social media interaction for the film festival.
Chicago Scholars is a nonprofit that brings hundreds of talented Chicago high school students from under-resourced communities together each fall so they can be interviewed by selective colleges and universities and considered for merit aid scholarships. Offers are made on the spot and millions of dollars in aid awarded. The organization asked Mekky Media to spread awareness of its life-changing work and invite key media to cover the emotional day of interviews and offers, known as the Onsite Admissions Forum.
Devices 4 the Disabled (D4D) began its partnership with Mekky Media Relations in the summer of 2019, with the goal of applying targeted media outreach to promote its mission, success stories and opportunities for financial support.
Mekky Media successfully pitched the story of D4D’s journey, achieving over 6 million in online readership and 190K in broadcast audience. The team secured an inspirational D4D feature on WCIU-TV’s popular morning program, “The Jam,” plus an in-depth Bob Shea interview on “Now.Chicago,” the public affairs program that airs on MeTV and other cable networks. The team placed Bob on WGN Radio’s morning program hosted by Steve Cochran, who honored Bob as MVPP (Most Valuable Person on the Planet). These pieces of coverage also received prominent placement online. The inspirational D4D story appeared online in the Daily Herald, Patch Chicago and My Social Good/GoodCrowd.info. These stories were posted in time for Giving Tuesday and highlighted opportunities to become a monthly donor. Mekky Media also conducted a website and social media audit and consulted on online content, to help D4D elevate its outreach.
The Center for Enriched Living (CEL) plays a crucial role in the lives of Chicago-area residents who have developmental disabilities. CEL partnered with Mekky Media to spread awareness of the difference its programs make, using Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month (DDAM) to draw attention to its many success stories and highlight the need for community support.
Building on the success of its previous 50th anniversary PR campaign for CEL, Mekky Media created messaging and a targeted media outreach program to shine a spotlight on DDAM and CEL throughout March 2019. Mekky Media secured a live WGN Radio interview with host Steve Cochran and Harriet Levy, CEO of CEL, as well as a 30-minute interview on WCIU TV’s Now.Chicago, a weekly public affairs program. Other significant PR results included a sold out gala and full End-of-Year PR campaign. Additional media placements included stories in the Chicago Tribune and Daily Herald. The Mekky Media team also worked with CEL to enhance its social media.
