I’m the co-founder and CMO of IdeaScale, a crowdsourcing, SaaS technology.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Media Shower?

As a startup, we have a very small, lean marketing team. We found that to continually grow and rank high in search results, we needed to have a continuous flow of content, which was a really big drain on my time as CMO. We decided to hire Media Shower as a professional set of writers who could maintain our blog and optimize some of our other pages.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Media Shower handles almost 100% of our blogs now. They look at our existing content on the site and help optimize it so it will rank better for the focus keywords. Most often, they pitch ideas for our content that is targeted to our list of keywords. They then produce content according to that and pitch it to me for approval or additional notes. 

From there, they upload it to the site for me. If we’ve done something, like create a new video, I’ll send it to them ahead of time that points back to that lead magnet or asset, too. Their team tracks everything, too, on their dashboard to see how well things are performing. 

What is the team composition?

I have one main point of contact who I send my content ideas through and she coordinates everything. I’m not sure how many writers are working with us because it’s more of a rotating cast.

How did you come to work with Media Shower?

I looked at a few other vendors but found Media Shower to be the most comprehensive and at the most cost-competitive price. For example, someone with the same price or cheaper didn’t have a platform ranking their content. They had everything I wanted, including the ability to input everything for me, take my direction, and take things on their own. 

How much have you invested with them?

We spend around $18,000 per year. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together around August 2017. 

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

I can’t say there is any one particular thing they did that led to this, but we still have the highest DA of any of our competitors in our space. Part of that is because we continue to create high-quality content consistently and they are a part of that strategy. In the past couple of years, some of our best ranking content that has been the top-performing, most visited, most shared, have been written by them. 

How did Media Shower perform from a project management standpoint?

I’ve only ever used email and their platform to manage the project and collaborate. Sometimes we’ve had problems when changing the editorial calendar. Though for the most part they’re good about it and responding quickly to those requests, sometimes there have been times they didn’t let me know they made any changes and wrong links were sent out, but that hasn’t happened in over a year. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re really good at responding in real-time to different trends. Since 2020 has been an interesting year and different topics are being highly searched, they were great at adjusting to showing how our solution fits in with COVID-19 searches and diversity and inclusion efforts. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

It’d be nice if I could get to know the writers one-on-one, but it’s working well as is. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Monitor the idea pitches to make sure they’re relevant for you. They usually are good, but make sure you don’t have that content already and are optimizing it.
