Lipman Hearne can trace its roots to the founding of Lipman Design in 1966 and of Hearne Communications in 1969. The two companies worked closely together on behalf of a number of large clients, including the University of Chicago, the Institute of European Studies, and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. In 1988 the companies merged, creating Lipman Hearne, Inc.
