I'm the CEO of a infresh, a food-tech startup aiming at automating the production of food for the food service industry.

For what projects/services did your company hire Lineo Engineering?

We hired Lineo to support developing a functional prototype of our first automation solution - a salad and fresh bowl dispensing system - as well as building this prototype.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

Lineo has been a recommendation out of our network. We were looking for a partner with broader engineering capabilities (mechanical, electrical, robotics), experience with start-ups, prototyping capabilities and some experience in food.

Three resources - Paul (MD) to coordinate the overall efforts and develop mechanical system plus two resources working on mechanical design and integration of the prototype

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Finished prototype building in agreed, short-time frame; prototype is supporting investor pitches and serves as development platform for upcoming technology evolutions

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Good interactions, mix of weekly regular meetings and ad-hoc daily calls. We were able to work through difficult Corona-times even though nearly everybody in the team was infected at a given point of time.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Very solution-oriented, searching for the optimum of quality, time and cost, supported us on the last steps of the finalisation of the prototype with a very innovative, customer-friendly financing scheme and even "hand-carried" the machine to our work place.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

We were very happy with the way Lineo had progressed and supported us.

I am the technical lead director at a management consulting company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Lineo Engineering?

We needed assistance with product development.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Lineo Engineering provides us with mechanical and electrical engineering services for product development. They helped us with research and development and product design. Often, we provide basic concept designs for products, and then Lineo Engineering serves as a tooling factory to develop a print design — we call it a design for manufacturing documents. We use those deliverables to produce tools for mass development. 

They've also delivered scientific outlines on product use for a variety of our products. For example, at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lineo Engineering helped us determine how to use the UV spectrum to reduce bacteria on objects. 

What is the team composition?

We work with three teammates from Lineo Engineering, including project managers and engineers. 

How did you come to work with Lineo Engineering?

We initially contacted Lineo Engineering via Upwork, where I was looking for a firm to help with a specific problem I had. I interviewed four companies and presented them with a test problem to see how they'd deal with it within an hour's time limit. Lineo Engineering came out on top, so we hired them. 

How much have you invested with them?

We've invested $10,000–$20,000 with Lineo Engineering. 

What is the status of this engagement?

Our engagement with Lineo Engineering began in June 2020, and it's ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

I'd rate Lineo Engineering's work from above average to excellent. They're great at finding issues with our customer's concepts and then refining them. Most engineers work in a bubble, but Lineo Engineering is technically competent and can look at projects from an outside perspective. 

How did Lineo Engineering perform from a project management standpoint?

Lineo Engineering's communication, which is mainly done via email, SMS messages, and document sharing, is very clear and accurate. There are no problems with project interpretations across our companies, which is impressive considering we work across three continents. Lineo Engineering is very patient in their dealings with our customers and us. Lineo Engineering is excellent at explaining complicated terms in layman's terms. 

Often, Lineo Engineering delivers on time or even ahead of schedule. I never have to remind their team about timelines. If there are ever delays, they're communicated in advance, so there are never any issues. Every week, I receive an email about what Lineo Engineering has worked on during the week, their projected work for the next week, and the financials.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Lineo Engineering can adapt to any project, from mechanical to electrical and civil engineering, or even R&D. In our relationship, Lineo Engineering is a turnkey engineer and R&D host. That, along with their conduct and how they listen to our needs, is important. Lineo Engineering is also open to working with various tools and products, which makes them fun to work with. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can't think of anything for Lineo Engineering to improve. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I'd advise customers to fully understand their product, its market, and its use before engaging with Lineo Engineering. That's the best way to ensure Lineo Engineering can figure out how to design the product. The more customers teach Lineo Engineering about their product, the better the result.

We needed engineering services for product development purposes.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Lineo Engineering collaborated with us in building our concept and designing the prototype of our manufacturing machine’s electrical and mechanical engineering components. After that, we agreed to mass produce our product. They’re in charge of the whole production facility, including QA and licensing of our components and product sourcing. They also provide ongoing maintenance and electrical and mechanical engineering services.

What is the team composition? 

We’re working with 8–9 people, namely their CEO, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, software engineers, and manufacturing specialists.

We found Lineo Engineering online. They possessed the perfect combination of quality and price.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working together around January 2020, and we continue to collaborate.

The product was launched within four months of starting the project. They provide good services and are quick to respond to our needs. Overall, we’re satisfied with this collaboration.

How did Lineo Engineering perform from a project management perspective?

Lineo Engineering is organized, and they work in a timely manner, meeting all of our deadlines. We use WhatsApp, calendar, and some project management tools.

What did you find most impressive about them? 

They're highly educated. As a result, they have qualified resources that bring proactive solutions to problems.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No. We already addressed any issues we had, and the Lineo Engineering team resolved them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Involve them early in the process, especially in finding the right place for manufacturing.
