Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m a co-founder of Revelare Partners LLC, a healthcare company. I’m in charge of overseeing our product development.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with KoderLabs?

We hired them to develop a website called Good Hospital, Bad Hospital.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

KoderLabs built a website from scratch using PHP. The project is a proof of concept for another website project, and it involved multiple pieces, including a backend with extract, transform, and load (ETL) functions. They developed the site in phases and started with a design section. We had an outline for the UI/UX, and they fully fleshed it out, redesigned the UI/UX, and created a new color scheme and icons for the site.

From there, the team built the backend and then developed the UI. KoderLabs has launched the product's first version and currently provides hosting and maintenance.

What is the team composition?

I've primarily interacted with two teammates from KoderLabs: a database designer and someone in charge of the site function. 

How did you come to work with KoderLabs?

I found them through a referral from someone in my network which also works in healthcare. We chose KoderLabs because they came highly recommended, were priced aggressively for their services, and their turnaround time was good. 

How much have you invested with them?

The first version of the site cost about $27,000. Our initial budget was about $21,000, but we requested additional pieces that pushed us to $27,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in October 2021 and launched the site in March 2022. They offer maintenance, so our engagement is ongoing. 

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The first version of our site is functioning and has 90% of what we scoped out. Even though the site is a proof of concept, we have almost 500 followers and average about 60–70 users a month without any advertising. Our focus is moving to another website called Good Doctor, Bad Doctor, and this project has helped us prove that we can create something meaningful that people will use. 

Currently, We’re raising funds for our following site, which they’ll likely develop. Once that other site is finished, we’ll create a second version of this site. KoderLabs’ work has helped us raise funds for Good Doctor, Bad Doctor. Technical people can see how fast the site is running and that it’s clean and error-free — that makes a difference. Additionally, the team has designed great icons. We believe in not saying something we can show, and they’ve done a great job of making that a reality. 

How did KoderLabs perform from a project management standpoint?

We used Google Workspace and a shared Google Drive for project management. During development, we had a spreadsheet on Google Sheets for each sprint with our objectives and necessary fixes, which we used to track progress. 

There were a couple of things that we needed to change during the design phase, and I appreciate their flexibility with those changes. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m impressed by KoderLabs’s speed of delivery. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, my interactions with them have been fantastic. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I advise clearly defining what you want to build and have good user stories from what you want your users to experience. Part of the reason why KoderLabs has moved as well as they have is that we had clearly defined expectations for our UX. We told them where we wanted to go, and they defined how to get there. To help you achieve this, I’d recommend finding other websites with an element of the UX you want to show the team.
