They delivered a detailed audit report, data minimisation recommendations, access governance guidelines and a mapping of our setup against the EU AI Act and GDPR. The final governance framework gave our product team clear boundaries for AI development going forward. A couple of deliverables came in slightly later than scheduled but the quality made it worth the wait.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The most tangible outcome was having a governance framework our product team could actually use from day one. Before the engagement we were making AI development decisions without clear compliance boundaries which was a real risk given our EU obligations. After KEW Data's review we had documented controls in place covering data minimisation, access governance and prompt handling that gave everyone on the team a shared reference point. The audit also surfaced specific risks we were not aware of which we were able to address before they became a problem. That kind of proactive risk reduction is hard to put a number on but the value is clear when you consider the regulatory exposure we avoided. Our product team now moves faster on AI features because the compliance questions have clear answers rather than requiring a discussion every time something new comes up.

Project management was generally solid. Communication was clear throughout and they were responsive when we had questions. A couple of deliverables came in slightly later than originally quoted but they flagged this in advance rather than going quiet, which we appreciated. When we needed clarification on specific points they came back quickly with detailed answers. Not perfect on timing but professional in how they handled it.

Their depth of knowledge on the EU AI Act was what stood out most. This is still a relatively new regulatory area and most consultants either avoid it or speak about it in very general terms. KEW Data were confident and specific about how it applies in practice and how it intersects with GDPR for a company in our situation. That combination of AI technical understanding and regulatory expertise in one team is genuinely rare and was exactly what we needed.

Honestly nothing significant to flag. The quality of the work was high, communication was good throughout and the deliverables gave us exactly what we needed. We would not change much about how they approached the engagement.

The key deliverables were a detailed compliance assessment to understand where we were in relation to the GDPR requirements, a remediation roadmap by risk priority to determine the order of work and a thorough audit evidence pack which we eventually used to answer a due diligence questionnaire from a client.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The most measurable was being ready to quickly and confidently respond to a due diligence questionnaire from a new enterprise client to whom we had never done an audit before, using the audit evidence pack KEW Data prepared for us. We also had no idea about how compliant we were with GDPR, until we were able to sit down and create a data flow map, list the data gaps and have a roadmap to systematically tackle the issues to ensure we are GDPR compliant.

Project management was adequate when it began to roll. The only thing we had a slight delay on was the initial set up — it took a little longer than we thought it would take. Once the project got under way however, KEW Data were responsive to our needs, kept us informed of progress, and provided the audit findings and remediation roadmap in accordance with our agreement. The general impression of their delivery was of high quality and reliability, despite the slower start.

The two things that stood out were the comprehensiveness of their GDPR audit and its practicality, we'd been dreading it and they gave us a clear picture of where we were standing, and what we could do about it. Also, the remediation roadmap was prioritised by risk level which meant we never felt overwhelmed — we always knew what to focus on first. The audit evidence pack was also much of use when a client due diligence request arrived shortly thereafter, which demonstrated that the work was very useful not just for compliance purposes but for the real world too.
