I would like to formally document an issue that occurred during a previous product development engagement associated with the UMKC program.

KC Proto entered into a contract to develop a product through the UMKC program. The owner, Blake, received funds and purchased certain project materials as part of the agreement. However, the development work was never completed. Throughout the project period, progress updates and documentation were not provided despite repeated requests.

Ultimately, the project was not delivered as agreed under the contract. As a result, the funds allocated for development and the associated materials were effectively lost, and the engagement concluded without a finished product. This situation also caused damage to my professional reputation and negatively impacted the investment made in the project.

For this reason, I strongly recommend that no further contact or collaboration be pursued with this individual regarding this project. Any engagement could potentially place the company, business operations, and the product development effort at unnecessary risk.

This note is intended to ensure transparency and to help protect the integrity of future development activities.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

I would like to share my experience to help others make informed decisions.

I engaged KC Proto, owned by Blake, through the UMKC program to develop a product. Funds were provided and materials were purchased; however, the project was never completed. Throughout the engagement, there were no consistent progress updates, no documented milestones, and no deliverables provided despite multiple follow-ups.

From a performance standpoint, the project did not produce any measurable outcomes—no prototype, no validation data, and no evidence of technical progress. The engagement ultimately concluded without a finished product, resulting in a loss of both funds and time, as well as negatively impacting project momentum.

Based on this experience, I strongly advise caution and would not recommend engaging with this vendor for product development work. Proceeding with them may introduce significant risk to timelines, resources, and overall project success.

I would like to provide a review of my experience with KC Proto, owned by Blake, regarding a product development engagement through the UMKC program.

From a project management perspective, the engagement was severely lacking. There were no structured timelines, milestones, or documented deliverables, and progress updates were not provided despite repeated requests. Key aspects of the project—including procurement of materials and development of the prototype—were either incomplete or not communicated clearly, leaving critical tasks untracked and unverified.

The vendor did not respond adequately to my guidance or evolving project needs, which made it impossible to steer the project toward successful completion. As a result, there were no measurable outcomes: no working prototype, no technical validation, and no usable documentation were delivered.

Ultimately, the project concluded without fulfilling its objectives, resulting in lost funds, materials, and professional credibility. Given this experience, I strongly advise against engaging with this individual for any future development projects. Their lack of accountability and responsiveness presents significant risk to timelines, resources, and overall project success.

Unfortunately, in my engagement with KC Proto, there were no aspects of the company’s performance or deliverables that I found impressive or unique. The project lacked clear management, measurable progress, and responsiveness to guidance, which ultimately prevented any successful outcomes.

Are there any areas for improvement or something KC Proto could have done differently?

Yes, there are several areas where KC Proto could have improved. Clear project management practices—such as defined milestones, documented deliverables, and regular progress updates—would have made a significant difference. Additionally, responsiveness to guidance and alignment with the project’s objectives were lacking; active communication and accountability could have ensured that the project stayed on track. Finally, better oversight of resources and adherence to the agreed-upon development plan would have prevented the loss of funds and materials.
