BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I am the CTO for a promotional items company. We are a one-stop shop for company swag and promotional product needs, and we take care of everything from the design to production and shipping. We have a suite of tech tools that we have developed in-house, and I oversee all of it along with our engineering teams, IT teams, and security.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Jemurai?

We work with a number of large tech startups and Fortune 500 companies. They all have security requirements that they impose on their vendors, so we hired Jemurai to come in and help us develop a cybersecurity program that could ensure that we were up to what our customers required.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Jemurai has been helping work towards achieving a SOC 2 (Service Organization Control 2) certification, which is a standard cybersecurity certification that people look for. They have been ensuring that we have proper controls around the data and information that we are storing for our customers. Their team has also been making sure that we are appropriately training our employees on cybersecurity practices and how to handle data in a responsible way.

Part of the service we are paying for is a SaaS product that Jemura developed, so we manage our security programs through that as well. 

What is the team composition?

Two people from Jemurai have been helping us.

How did you come to work with Jemurai?

The founder of Jemurai and I crossed paths about a decade ago, which is how I initially heard about them. I had worked with them in a previous role prior to joining this company. I enjoyed the experience so much that decided to hire them again. 

There are other companies in the space that do this in a much more automated fashion, but the biggest reason we hired them is that we had some unique requirements that only their hands-on approach could effectively help with.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent under $50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

I’ve spent the last three years working with Jemurai in my previous company, but this project started in August 2021.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Working with Jemurai has made it much easier for us to respond to the security questionnaires that we get from our customers. The amount of back-and-forth that we are having to do to get past security audits has definitely dropped, and our overall preparedness in that area is significantly better.

How did Jemurai perform from a project management standpoint?

We have biweekly check-in calls. A lot of our communication is managed through the software provided by Jemurai, and it has been great.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The thing that stands out about Jemurai is their hands-on, personalized approach. We can rely on their depth of knowledge, and their SaaS tool makes it very easy for us to see what tasks we need to execute in order to hit our goals. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could be a bit more proactive when it comes to following up. Cybersecurity is never at the top of someone’s to-do list, so we would appreciate it if they just came in and pushed us a little more than they do rather than just chatting with us every two weeks.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Coming up with a specific plan and clear goals will be of big help once you start working with them.
