Business Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence as Allies for Internationalizing Companies The ProCórdoba Agency is implementing BI and AI technological processes in its Commercial Intelligence service. This expansion enhances the capacity for data analysis and processing, providing more precise information to companies about potential business opportunities in different countries.

Technological advancements and digital transformation experienced in recent years have led to various applications and solutions across various aspects of human life. Perhaps one of the areas that has made the most progress due to technology is the corporate and business world. The ever-increasing volume of data and information generated and processed daily demands that business management become increasingly assertive and complex.

In this regard, the introduction of Business Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in business development has become a key pillar for process automation and data utilization. Business Intelligence (BI) allows companies to make strategic decisions based on data collection, analysis, and transformation.

BI tools and solutions analyze large volumes of data and transform them into insights that help firms make decisions that promote growth. Applying business intelligence to a company's processes enables them to have a comprehensive view of data, use it to drive improvements, reduce or even eliminate inefficiencies, and adapt to changes in the market and demand.

In the era of what is known as the fourth industrial revolution, driven by technological advancements, one of Business Intelligence's strongest allies is Artificial Intelligence, which enables rational actions by replicating certain human capabilities for performing specific tasks, particularly those characterized as repetitive. BI and AI for Internationalizing Cordovan Companies From the Commercial Intelligence department of the ProCórdoba Agency, an entity of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Mining of the Province of Córdoba that promotes the internationalization of companies, support is provided to exporting activities through baseline and field studies.

The goal is to facilitate the search for new opportunities for various productive sectors, linking the province's exportable offerings with global demand and business opportunities abroad. The current methodology involves the global analysis of countries to determine their potential as target markets.

The analysis of macro (economic, commercial, logistical, demographic, etc.) and sectoral variables allows the establishment of a ranking of markets with the greatest potential and grouping countries based on similarities according to the determined variables. This process has the advantage of prioritizing markets that align best with the characteristics of the local supply, but although it narrows down opportunities, it does not inherently detect business opportunities.

To enhance the search for business opportunities and the identification of international clients, the ProCórdoba Agency is incorporating Business Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence, and Big Data tools into the Commercial Intelligence process developed up to this point.

The application of these new technologies will provide the process with deeper analysis and expanded report-generation capabilities. It will also extend the analysis time based on historical data to identify trends and facilitate future projections. Additionally, it will enable more precise counterpart identification processes, reducing risks, time, and costs.

Our services were growing but our database couldn’t keep up with the growing demand of our business. As a result, we hired Ithreex Global to help us.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Ithreex Global supports all of our apps and Oracle databases. They also handle the monitoring of our IT solutions. They use Oracle for databases and Tabix for database monitoring. For reports, the team uses Grafana, Microsoft Dynamics, and open-source tools.

What was the team composition?

We’re working with someone assigned to databases and a senior developer for more complex tasks. We also work with a monitoring team of two people and a specialized software team of four people.

How did you come to work with Ithreex Global? 

We were already working with Ithreex Global long before I came to work for the company. They had great customer service, and they were flexible. As a result, when our project came up, we invited them to be part of our licitation process. In the end, Ithreex Global was selected because of the quality of their proposal as well as their reasonable cost.

The database services cost about 3.5 million Argentine pesos (approximately $33,000 USD) per year. On top of that, monitoring costs about 2.5 million Argentine pesos (approximately $24,000 USD) and their support costs about 4 million Argentine pesos (approximately $38,700 USD) annually.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in August 2006, and it’s an ongoing collaboration. However, they’ve been working with the company since 2001.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Thanks to their work, we were able to organize our databases and now have real stats to grow our services smoothly. On top of that, our database can now keep up with our growth. As for support, our goal was to be able to respond to any incident within 24 hours since we could only respond and resolve 30% of our tickets. Currently, we can now respond and resolve 96% of the tickets within the established deadline.

How did Ithreex Global perform from a project management standpoint?

They have a great project leader and technicians. As a manager, I have someone I can communicate with directly who understands my needs. Our internal technicians also have someone they can communicate with who understands their language. Overall, those two things add great value to their services.

The quality of their service is impressive.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They always comply with everything we ask, but we’d love it if they could make more improvements to their proposals. We also want them to improve their proactivity.

The projects are still in progress, so we don't have any metrics to share yet. However, the call center CRM integration is very important for us.

We’ve established a calendar and have weekly or even daily meetings when needed. We use Google Meet, Trello, and other project management tools.

The project isn’t finished yet so we don’t have a thorough evaluation of their work. However, there are things such as the statistical part of the project that have been truly valuable for us.

What was the scope of their involvement?

I can’t talk about the technicalities of the campaigns, but as for results, Ithreex Global creates interactive gamified reports on a digital platform. Those reports can then be scrolled by our partners where they can view the different stages and results of our commercial actions.

I'm the Manager of a tax administration advice company

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Ithreex Global ?

Technologies that enable data-driven forecasting have had an enormous impact in different fields of science and industry, and have made it possible to optimize the production of services and to improve decision-making processes. In this project, the task of predicting the future behavior of taxpayers is analyzed.

The project focus on the definition of an MVP within a timeframe of 3 months, using data that includes debt, past payments, and interactions between the taxpayers and the several communication channels of a dedicated helpdesk. The analysis, based on statistical methods, business knowledge, and machine learning techniques, allows us to assess the feasibility of this data set to get business intuition and decision-making capacity in the strategies to improve the business parameters. An interdisciplinary team is responsible for the development of the product using agile methodologies, allowing for a well-documented process sustained by scientific evidence and industry experience.

The results are validated using custom performance metrics, adapted following the requirements of the business. Also, segmentation of the set of taxpayers is performed through statistical learning to identify groups with different needs and to measure the relative importance of the features in the data set to characterize the behavior of the taxpayers. The results of this analysis, along with those of the forecasting approach, are discussed in terms of insight to define payment incentive strategies. The results for the forecasting problem are implemented as an API that can be automated for continuous data ingestion with periodic validation and correction.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We chose Ithreex Global because of their extensive experience and recognition in the market related to the subject.

Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.

The project is about a predictive analysis model whose purpose was identified behavior patterns in a certain universe of taxpayer, through information analysis, the clustering of subjects and the use of internal and external data sources, that are referring to information on payments in arrears, debt for activity, procedures and any other interaction that links the subject with the tax administration.

The steps planned for the entire process of this MVP were: First the understanding and definition of the business problem. Then we collected the information and studied the features that matter to propose a solution for this problem. Next, we prepared the information for the analysis, data clean, detection of atypical data and imputation of the missing ones. Afterwards, we did an exploratory analysis of the data to create knowledge, and used it to apply models of machine learning with supervised and unsupervised algorithms. In the end, we used the results to the assessment of business opportunities, make conclusions and recommend the product.
