Introduce your business and what you do there.

Our organization’s business is related to air, sea, and space technology. The area that I’m engaged in mainly involves simulators for nuclear power plants.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Imagine 4D?

A nuclear power plant operator has contracted us to do a full 3D visualization of their plant. The project goes beyond typical 3D visualization in that it's integrated with other digital assets that the customer has. 

We’re creating a completely functional and photorealistic 3D visualization model. Not only can people walk around the 3D environment, but they can also actually operate the equipment. Users can see what the equipment is doing internally, so it's quite powerful. We work with Imagine 4D for this project.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Imagine 4D firstly worked on the full 3D model of the plant, and then they did a full laser and Lidar scan. After that, they integrated the 3D model with the scans and other digital systems of the customer. The digital systems that we’ve attached to the model include an operator training simulator and an electronic drawing system. 

They've also created a 3D immersion system that doesn’t require any VR headsets. It’s like a dome that you can walk right into, and it uses mirrors rather than projection screens. It’s not like anything else on the market. It allows the user to go into the 3D model and be immersed in it without wearing any headsets. 

What is the team composition?

We worked with around 10 people from Imagine 4D. We have our own project manager that communicates with them, and they have a teammate responsible for overseeing the project from their side. Those two people interface with each other.

How did you come to work with Imagine 4D?

We went out to gather bids from multiple companies to help us in this project, and Imagine 4D came out on top. 

How much have you invested with them?

For this project, we’ve invested around $2 million–$5 million. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in October 2018, and the engagement is ongoing. 

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We’re getting good feedback on the product’s usability. Imagine 4D can engineer systems and software that meet the needs of the third-party customer’s project. 

How did Imagine 4D perform from a project management standpoint?

Imagine 4D is a very able company, and they’re very dynamic. The team is flexible in the way they do business, and that’s helpful for us. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have the ability to engineer software that integrates well with whatever system there is, and that makes them different from other 3D content suppliers. Other suppliers can definitely make 3D content using the tools that they have. However, Imagine 4D is willing to take on whatever challenge there is and make things happen. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

They can try and become a bigger company. They’re already on their way to doing that.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be transparent with your requirements, and see if Imagine 4D will provide what you’re looking for. In our work with them, we've been very clear about what we needed whenever we could be, and they’ve risen to the challenge.
