We recently engaged a QA contractor for our web project, and the experience has been outstanding. The scope of the project included functional testing, usability assessment, performance evaluation, security checks, compatibility testing, API validation, localization review, data integrity verification, and comprehensive documentation.

From the onset, the contractor demonstrated a high level of professionalism and expertise. Their approach to functional testing ensured that all features operated flawlessly, significantly enhancing the platform's reliability. The usability assessment provided invaluable insights, leading to a more intuitive and user-friendly interface.

We searched on UpWork. We selected this vendor due to reasonable pricing and due to the vendor being in our timezone. We also interviewed Margarita and thought she has good experience , a great background, and had great communication skills

The task was to do the entire QA of the software product. This vendor had the initial call to understand our requirements and the product, then spent some time playing with the product and then put together an initial testing plan and a long term plan. As they went from short term to long term, the team adapted to our changing needs well. They brought other people with complementary skills, got additional software tools, and changed their approach.

We had 3 people. One was the lead who did most of the work and primarily focused on manual testing as well as developing test plans and reported any findings. The other two guys helped with automated testing.

The team identified lots of bugs and we were able to fix them before releasing the product. They also brought knowledge of good practices and showed us how to implement good testing processes.

We had a constant open communication channel. We used Slack to communicate non-stop. Any findings were submitted through Jira. Any questions were asked through Slack or Zoom calls. In addition, Margarita made it her business to understand us well, and not just blindly test, so we had occasional calls to discuss the product and any details the team should be aware of.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their team was smart, detail-oriented, personable, and results-driven. They had extremely good communication skills, too.

Not really. The team is very impressive.

I’m the CEO of an early-stage startup. We offer a mobile wallet application to walk out and pay after dining at restaurants. Instead of waiting for a check or scanning a QR code, users can leave restaurants and have the bill sent to their phones.

What challenge were you trying to address with ILoveMyQA?

We engaged ILoveMyQA to help with QA testing to get the first version of our application out the door.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

ILoveMyQA conducted QA testing on various features of our mobile application to ensure there were no bugs. We used Jira to track our development targets, so once we prioritized tickets for our development team, they’d complete the tickets and send them to ILoveMyQA for testing. After receiving tickets from our development team, ILoveMyQA tested the features around different applications and use cases and provided feedback. 

They were essentially the gatekeeper for making sure all the features we released worked as intended. They used TestFlight and Firebase App Distribution to evaluate features ranging from basic functionality to payments and notifications. When a ticket didn’t pass our quality standards, the team sent it back to our developers with notes for improvement. On the other hand, when a ticket passed our requirements, we included it in the next shipment for deployment.

We worked with ILoveMyQA from July–September 2022. We’ve paused the engagement for now but plan to begin our partnership again at the beginning of 2023.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We measured success by how effectively ILoveMyQA identified bugs by counting the number of bug-free tickets we deployed. Margarita did an exceptional job; everything that went through her QC was successful. She even pointed out bugs or issues with certain features we didn't find. She went above and beyond the project scope, which was super helpful.

How did ILoveMyQA perform from a project management standpoint?

ILoveMyQA consistently met deadlines and communicated effectively via Slack. They were responsive, detail-oriented, and articulate throughout the partnership. Margarita was very efficient; she provided impact immediately and got the job done within a short time, which we appreciated.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We were most impressed with their flexibility and the quality of their QA testing; ILoveMyQA produced high-quality work for a reasonable rate. At the end of the day, QA is QA, but working with Margarita was a pleasure. She was a proactive self-starter, and we didn’t need to do much handholding, which worked well for our business. We really appreciate her flexibility and turnaround time and look forward to continuing the partnership.

We have a few different digital products: website, portal, mobile web viewer, and a mobile app. We noticed that our test coverage didn't capture all the scenarios we needed to and there was a lack of structured process around testing, so we hired ILoveMyQA to address these for us.

We were looking for a team that had a good mix of human testing and automated testing. What set ILoveMyQA apart was that they showed an example of how they do their testing and some sample deliverables, which fell in line to what we were looking for. The other part that stuck out was this just seemed like a group of people who really had a passion for testing and QA.

Our products are all broken down and we do daily scrum meetings, with the QA team from ILoveMyQA joining twice a week. For every sprint they test all the features/fixes for the week (technologies range from web sites to mobile app testing on Android and iOS). They also provide useful feedback on certain UI/UX interactions, not just testing.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We noticed within a month that our field team was having a much better experience using and demoing our mobile applications. We were also able to ensure broader coverage of different device variants, as well as different mobile internet speeds.

All communication was done through Slack and JIRA, where tickets would go to QA state, get tested, and either set to pass/fail for deployment or re-work. They are very flexible with changes as well as we are a company where priorities and features can change swiftly.

What I found most unique about this company is that they didn't feel like a traditional vendor, but a group of people that genuinely like doing QA and wanting you to have as good a product as possible. Rather than feel like vendor, they felt like part of our team.

Currently there is a lot of manual testing required due to feature requests constantly coming through, but once maintenance phase comes in, it would be good to have a lot of the tests automated, especially regression testing
