I’m the owner of Heron Agency, a lifestyle communications firm.

What challenge were you trying to address with H.D. Roseth & Associates?

We had an in-house bookkeeper who worked with us for a limited amount of time. Our books needed some cleanup, attention to procedures, and strategies to make it easier to prepare for quarterly taxes.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Hal (Owner) helped us navigate as a company through his great business advising and financial acumen. He’s looked at how we should be collecting revenues and making sure our reporting mechanisms were in the best shape. In many cases, he recommends new procedures that would work better. He works in tandem with my controller and does my individual taxes as well.

Hal is a soundboard for not only financial questions, taxes, s-corporation concerns, government programs like the Payback Protection Program (PPP), but also on the human resources front. He’s a great consultant.

What is the team composition?

I work with Hal and another employee. 

How did you come to work with H.D. Roseth & Associates?

I worked previously with a big accounting firm, but I didn’t like the experience. Someone referred me to Hal.

How much have you invested with them?

We spend about $10,000–$50,000 annually.

What is the status of this engagement?

I started working with Hal in February 2015, and we still work together.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Hal has probably saved me $100,000 per year by completely restrategizing my taxes — and for a lower fee than my previous accounting firm. I have a full-time controller now, but we previously had part-time people. Streamlining our processes saved us hours of work and about $10,000–$15,000 per year in turn.

My company has grown a lot over our partnership thanks to Hal. H.D. Roseth & Associates is a great partner for businesses. They treat my money like it’s their money.

How did H.D. Roseth & Associates perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re always there. Whenever I need assistance, they always give me an immediate call back. They’re very detail-oriented and have been helpful with navigating PPP alongside Hal. They’re also thorough and comprehensive. Hal has over 20 years of experience in tax accounting and financial matters. He can come in and look at how to overall structure a plan for the client’s company. He’s also very community relations-oriented and an all-around solid person.

What did you find most impressive about them?

My previous firm made me feel like a small fish in a big pond. Hal makes me feel like I’m his only client, even though he has multiple clients, which I think is extraordinary. He’s organized, strategic, timely in his follow-through. I’ve never had an accountant that was as organized and thorough. When he explains things, everything makes sense to me as a business owner. Moreover, I never feel like there’s a clock ticking when we talk.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I really, truly don’t.

Any advice for potential customers?

Set up an initial meeting with Hal. Sit down, bring your books in, and have him do an overall sweep. You won’t be disappointed.
