I was the global Salesforce admin for an engineering manufacturer.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with HCL Technologies?

We hired HCL Technologies for Salesforce implementation. We initially used SAP Digital but migrated to Salesforce because of its UI.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The initial phase was to provide the business blueprint to HCL Technologies and analyze our processes. Once we had the blueprint, we discussed how we were going to implement the system and test it within different regions.

The testing phase was supervised by our people, which was then proceeded by Salesforce training for the users. We did a pilot implementation in Denmark during the development process and once that was done, we did one with India and China. The Salesforce implementation took more than a year to complete, but HCL Technologies contributed heavily to the development and training.

What is the team composition?

I worked with around 4–5 developers and a business analyst.

How did you come to work with HCL Technologies?

We went with HCL Technologies because of their 20 years of experience. This was something that our previous vendors did not have, as they were only beginners. Working with such experienced professionals helped us a lot because didn’t have to go through repetitive tasks.

Additionally, their costs were relatively low compared to the other competitors at the time, so they were the best fit for us in terms of efficiency.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $70,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from March 2013–March 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

HCL Technologies successfully implemented all the processes in the time frame we agreed upon.

How did HCL Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

They sometimes delayed development due to the different teams working on several projects at the same time. They’re a big company managing a lot of projects that took time to complete. We used to have regular meetings with them as we needed to monitor the time it takes to finish each task.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We’re impressed with their work experience. They provide several solutions to specific business problems or processes. This was very convenient for us as we only had to choose from the different options they present to us.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It took them a long time to accomplish each project, mainly because they used to do them all simultaneously. It would be better if they can dedicate more time to finishing one project at a time to avoid future delays.
