I was managing director at Sangus Partners, a private equity fund.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Gusto?

We needed payroll services and to file our quarterly earnings in the state of North Carolina.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Gusto provided us with payroll services for two employees, as well as with the monthly accounting related to those payrolls. They also ensured that we paid the necessary taxes to the state each month. Additionally, they provided us with quarterly and end-of-the-year reports that we needed to file our taxes.

We initially provided them with our company’s information, our federal employer identification number, and how much our employees were earning. From there, everything else was automated, and they worked as a SaaS.

What is the team composition?

We never had a team specifically assigned to us. Whenever we had questions, we always talked to a different person each time.

How did you come to work with Gusto?

We got a trial deal for Gusto’s services through our business’ bank account. We used them and noticed that they were more economical than other providers at the time, so we kept working together.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $4,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from January 2020–December 2019.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Gusto always delivered the quarterly filings to the state and the complete documentation that we needed on time. They also helped us be aware of our taxes and certain dates.

How did Gusto perform from a project management standpoint?

We communicated with a chatbot whenever we had issues, which weren’t many. Other than that, it was almost a self-service.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Once we set up everything, Gusto’s service was pretty much automated. We never had to do anything unless something changed from our end.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No. Gusto filled all the needs that we had.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Know what you need to set up. Once you’re set-up, just let it run.
