Foonkie Monkey made our lives easier. They had a useful range of web design services and we trusted them. Although I was not in charge of the project, I liked the app immensely.

We were in constant communication across multiple channels—email, phone, and Google Hangout. The team always met deadlines; we never had an issue with scheduling.

The team was very innovative and completely improved our original idea for the app. The app turned out better than we envisioned.

The prices could be better, but otherwise, everything was great.

The app made a large impact when we released it. It was downloaded quickly by many doctors who use it for their daily work.

The communication was fast and efficient.

Working with medical language can be hard, but FOONKIE MONKEY did a great job. They understood the concepts and translated everything quickly into the app. The visual layout was great, and they understood exactly what we wanted.

The project lasted a bit longer than expected, but it was mainly because of us and our other partners.

We attend many exhibition and events in our industry, and we realized that a mobile app would allow us to expand our market and show off our products more efficiently. In creating a mobile app, we were looking to establish direct contact with our customers, promote our products, and facilitate the purchasing process.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They created a very simple app that we could populate with all our products, services, company information, and contact forms. It also allows clients to easily request quotations. They built the app for iOS and Android and created an administrator portal that allows us to upload new information/content ourselves.

They were highly recommended to us by a colleague. They have great references and a very impressive portfolio. They’re also located very close to us, which allowed us to meet face-to-face whenever necessary.

We started working together in June 2017, and the engagement concluded in December 2017. We currently have a beta version of the app and plan to launch at upcoming events.

This app will make it much easier for us show our products at expositions. Although the app is still in its beta phase, it functions exactly how we planned. The app will give our clients easier access to our products, especially those that are based internationally.

They made the development process very easy for us. They were very responsive throughout the process. They used an Agile methodology in managing the project, which helped them complete the process efficiently.

We really like the simple design of the app. It’s also very responsive and easy to use.

I’m the corporate manager of a company located in Columbia that manages all the technology for a bank in Puerto Rico. We have three employees here and 70 in Venezuela. My main job is taking care of all the IT operations and new development.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They implemented changes on all of the frontend interfaces. They used JavaScript for this as well as for the applications and web design. They also did a full rebrand on an existing app. They developed an iOS and Android app that was integrated with the backend for the business.

They’re currently working on backend development to satisfy some specific requirements around requests and credit consulting modules.

What is the team composition?

I have direct contact with the account manager on technical matters, as well as with the architect and master engineer. I’m unsure exactly how many people are involved with development because they sometimes outsource their work to freelancers.

How did you come to work with FOONKIE MONKEY?

We found them online. We wanted to continue the development in Venezuela where we could give it more continuity. We evaluated options in Santo Domingo, Lima, and Bogotá. We also met with four providers in Colombia, including FOONKIE MONKEY. We chose them because they offered newer and trending technologies.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in November 2016 and the project ended in June 2017. We signed a yearly contract after that to continue with new development, so we’re still working with them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They generally delivered as expected and managed to retain the focus in terms of usability, particularly with the apps. The board of directors was satisfied with the job and investment. We were also very satisfied, so we decided to continue our relationship and focus on other projects.

How did FOONKIE MONKEY perform from a project management standpoint?

The communication was great and met our expectations. It’s difficult in the technology space to deliver by established deadlines. It’s not impossible, but it is complex. We experienced some delays, but still managed to meet our deadline and deliver the final product on time.

We used Trello for the project’s technical follow-up. We used WhatsApp internally for general communication and conference calls.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I would highlight their technical knowledge and ability to start new projects as their biggest strengths. Their architectural vision covers everything and ensures that the code is reusable and easier to maintain.

They could improve their testing abilities.

I’m the operations and technology manager at a Colombian subsidiary of a multinational financial services corporation. We’re a low value payments system, so we’re in charge of moving funds between a country’s financial entities.

What challenge were you trying to address with Foonkie Monkey?

Because of the particular conditions of the market and domestic regulations, we had to find a solution for files transformation. We needed to transform the files from the language of our company’s international arm to the language managed by Colombia's Central Bank, since they’re the ones making the transactions under orders from our Colombian subsidiary.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The app was developed in Java. I can put any information or files into the app, and it automatically transforms them into the format needed to upload them to the bank. For example, our company creates reports using TXT, and the bank here needs HTML, so the app automatically generates that transformation.

Foonkie Money also created a functionality that allows us to convert information to the language understood by the country's financial regulator.

One of our collaborators recommended them. We saw their past work and decided they’d be good to work with. They’d already worked directly with the company, so it was an easy setup.

The app is only used by our company, and it allowed us to continue our work. It made things much easier, and the app functions well. I don’t have any complains.

They met all our deadlines and even delivered some things early. We worked closely together but didn’t use any project management tools—we mainly communicated via phone and email.

They met every one of our requirements and responded immediately to any concerns.

What business challenge were you trying to address with Foonkie Monkey?

At the time, we were looking for a mobile application service provider given that the company did not have an application in the market. We wanted to venture in the mobile market with native applications for Android, iOS, Windows, and Blackberry. Amongst them we found Foonkie Monkey.

Please describe the scope of their involvement in detail.

Foonkie Monkey has worked on our application development, and it is only available for Android, iOS, and Windows. A couple of years ago, it was also available for Blackberry, but we are not working with it anymore due to market issues.

How did you come to work with Foonkie Monkey?

I can’t recall the exact name for the contact, but we began a selection process and they were selected to initiate the mobile applications with us.

Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?

For the initial build, we spent between $50,000 and $100,000. With all the adjustments and improvements that have been done on the platform, we have spent between $10,000 and $30,000 per year.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working in 2013. The bulk of the work was in the initial version of the application, but we are still ongoing for sporadic improvements and maintenance.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

Our application is public, but our main market consists of our clients, which means that the amount of downloads that we have pertain to a closed group of users. I don’t have an exact number, but the Android and iOS platforms have around 30,000 downloads, and Windows has around 20,000.

Our work with Foonkie Monkey has been favorable, but due to other adverse issues, the application has not had the best reviews. Since it’s a business and transaction application, it does not maintain the same margins when it comes to reviews compared to other applications. We are improving in that area and the provider is not to blame. We’re the ones who have failed on our internal business issues. We do not have enough functionality. So basically, that is what our users have criticized. We are low ranked in the application stores.

What distinguishes Foonkie Monkey from other providers?

We have ventured with other companies for mobile projects. However, what stands out the most about Foonkie Monkey is the availability and companionship that they offer, even when the work goes a bit beyond the objective or from the negotiated scope. They have been very flexible in their negotiations, and have always helped us when we need it the most.

Is there anything Foonkie Monkey could have improved or done differently?

In the quality department, there could be some improvement done in maintaining a good product.
