Vendors have difficulty matching our style, but FOONKIE MONKEY copes with our demands well. The team has perfect timing and I don’t have any complaints.

The team is highly competent. We communicate via Zoom almost daily.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The team has strong communication skills; their overall performance is great. We run into occasional issues, but that’s understandable in the tech sector. Nothing has raised our team’s concerns.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They mainly developed mobile apps for both Android and iOS platforms, while also providing maintenance and support. The purpose of the apps is to allow customers to locate all the company’s service locations and to rate them. It also allows associated service providers to create a profile and a list of all the services they offer, which can also receive ratings.

They worked independently, but they’d come to work at our premises whenever we needed them. The team would usually range between two to six people.

We evaluated different suppliers for this specific project and decided on FOONKIE MONKEY because we knew they had worked for a local financial company, which we found very interesting.

We spent around $35,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in 2010. The app was finished around 2011, however, they’re still working with the company for maintenance and other projects.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They’re very honest, dedicated, and open to collaborating. If we had any issues, we could call them and they would be there, no matter what the time was. They were completely responsible and professional.

How did FOONKIE MONKEY perform from a project management standpoint?

We used a project management tool, and they always were very punctual. We had to make some adjustments at times because we didn’t always respect the exact dates we established at the beginning, but there were never any important delays. I’d say they met deadlines 95% of the time.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We weren’t very familiar with mobile apps and app development, but they guided us and helped us a lot during this process.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No. The company has a very good relationship with them. I only have positive things to say.

In 2015, we started analyzing our existing platform and found it wasn’t intuitive and didn’t generate much traffic. We hired Foonkie Monkey to conduct a navigability study and develop an improved new platform that would generate more visits from users.

What was the scope of their involvement?
 
Our previous platform was limited to a web application. It had been developed on a Bootstrap library. Foonkie Monkey adapted our site for use on mobile phones. They merged it with Java and other technologies.

We initially worked with three people from Foonkie Monkey. As the project came along, we added a fourth resource near the end.

We work closely with the IT Ministry who had partnered with Foonkie Monkey before. We took their team into consideration while looking for firms to assist us with this project. After conducting an evaluation, we selected them.

The project lasted from March to October 2015. We made some adjustments at the end of the year and launched the final product by the beginning of 2016.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We never had any complaints. In fact, we were quite pleased with the results Foonkie Monkey produced. We even spoke with them recently about drafting a new contract to make additional improvements to our site. In general, their work is of a high caliber. They offer rapid response times. We’ve only received positive comments from our users who are located all over the world. In particular, the platform is easy to navigate.  

How did Foonkie Monkey perform from a project management standpoint?

Foonkie Monkey kept us constantly informed via a project management tool that enabled us to communicate and review documents. It took a few additional days to finish the project, but that wasn’t a significant problem. They’re both pleasant to work with and skilled from a technical perspective. Their team gave our project a more human quality. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Foonkie Monkey possesses a level of technical knowledge that surpassed all our expectations. Working together has been an enlightening process for us.  They deftly leverage technologies they use in programming. We’ve had to make very complex adjustments, but they’ve done them with ease thanks to the flawless foundational product they built. 
 
Are there any areas they could improve?

My boss doesn’t like the colors they used in the design, but that’s a very subjective comment. Other people really enjoy the color scheme and find the appearance relaxing. Although the site might seem a bit static compared to other government sites in Latin America, lots of animation and movement is better suited to a marketing company. We trust the team’s consultation.

I don’t remember the exact technical details, but they provided adequate documentation of the technologies used to build the app. The initial version of the app took around 4-6 months to create. Then, they initiated a second development phase to make improvements and launch a final build.

It was difficult to measure the ROI for the solution, but it was a successful strategy. We successfully influenced the partners and healthcare professionals that we were attempting to reach. We received positive feedback on the content featured on the app and it’s still functioning four years after the initial launch. We’re able to publish content on the platform internally and it’s become a standard part of our usual procedures. They met our primary objective of getting quality content in the hands of medical and healthcare professionals.

We had several meetings, calls, and did follow-ups based on the advances of the project. They managed to deliver development milestones within the agreed upon timeline. We didn’t use a specialized project management tool.

I’m the strategic communications manager for the Colombian Navy. I used to be the communications manager for the Colombian Army for four years, but then a specific office was created to divide certain functions.

What challenge were you trying to address with FOONKIE MONKEY?

Part of the communications strategy that was established about three years ago was to find ways to get closer to people. The army is very active in the country due to the many regional conflicts and the fight against drug trafficking. Our work is usually on the outskirts of the country, so we thought that being closer to people might give them a greater sense of security.

One of the strategies we established was to create a mobile app. We knew that FOONKIE MONKEY had developed apps for other public agencies, so we contacted them.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed an app that explains our mission, our work, and allows people to send messages, and more. Another important feature of the app is the ability to report emergencies happening on the ocean, rivers, etc., so it would help us save lives.

The app was developed for both Android and iOS platforms. We thought about doing it for Blackberry as well, but it was expensive to do so as they seemed to be disappearing, so we discarded the idea.

Something like this hadn’t been done in the army before; we were basically pioneers for this kind of development. I started looking for app development agencies myself, both abroad and here in Colombia. When I was looking for someone local, I came across the app of an important local bank. I saw FOONKIE MONKEY’s logo there, so I gave them a call.

It was a pretty robust app, so the development lasted about a year—from 2014 to 2015.

The app helped us materialize our strategy, which was very important. FOONKIE MONKEY not only created a beautiful app but delivered something that helped us fulfill our mission of guaranteeing people’s security on the ocean. There aren’t many military apps in Latin America, so we became innovators in this regard. It’s an exceptional and useful app which created a way for the population to communicate directly with us.

They are young and very practical. It wasn’t easy for us to materialize the concept, but they did a great job of translating our ideas. It was a win/win relationship.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were especially great at getting to know us as an institution, and at understanding our ideas and developing them. Additionally, they used the latest technologies to create a modern and adaptable app and were very well versed on all the procedures.

This kind of product can always be improved because technology changes so fast, but that really depends on us. Things can get obsolete if you stop updating them every now and then.
